What should I buy? Why is nobody recommending the Nikon ZR?
I'm new to the camera world, and I'm seriously considering the Nikon ZR as my first camera for my marketing agency. However, the reviews seem pretty mixed, and I'm struggling to decide whether it's the right investment.
My use case:
- 80–90% video, 10–20% photography.
- Social media reels, corporate shoots, promotional content, and product videos.
- Indoor and outdoor shoots, primarily 4K, with 4K 60fps being my maximum requirement for now.
- I also need good still photography capabilities for product shots, corporate photos, and general client work.
My priorities: Reliable autofocus, good IBIS, battery life, easy handling, and affordable lenses.
I'm based in India, where the Nikon ZR body costs around ₹1.5 lakh ($1,580).
I'm also considering the Sony A7 V ($2,300) and Canon R6 V ($2,000), despite their higher prices. The ZR seems to offer a lot for the money, particularly for video, but the mixed reviews are making me hesitant.
What's confusing is that almost everyone I ask recommends Sony, even when I ask people who shoot with other brands. Sony seems to be the default recommendation, while the Nikon ZR rarely comes up.
For those who own or have used the Nikon ZR, would you recommend it as a first camera for my needs? And if you've used Sony or Canon as well, how does the ZR compare in actual paid work?
I'm looking to invest in a camera system for the long term, so I'd rather make an informed decision than follow the crowd.
