Why are so many adults so dismissive about the world?

They always make fun of people for not wanting to get a job, when so many of them despise their own jobs as its all just nonsense being disguised as productivity, their own bones and muscles get weakened due to the stress from their work. Hell, their own life span decreases because of it. Just call it for what it is,bullshit used to enslave us all.

Tell me why this is a bad idea

• Upvotes

I am opting out of paying into any retirement.

Assume that you are making 50k per year, paid twice a month.

Even at 6%, (which is on the lower side of average to contribute you’d pay $2999.76 each year into retirement savings.

Rounded up that's an extra 3k per year to do whatever you want/need to.

I would much rather have that 3k while I'm young and alive to enjoy it instead of banking on living to retirement age and finally getting my money when I'm old and too decrepit to truly enjoy it.

I am never having kids and I work a job that can be done at any age, so if I do live to retirement age then I'll just keep working. But anyone could die tomorrow, or in a month, or in a year and then all that money that you earned and put away is just completely wasted. And who knows, you might be alive but the country might have collapsed by then.

Basically I'm deciding that I want the full amount of the money I earn now (after taxes of course, no escaping that) rather than banking on a future that might not even exist.

I never would've seen having the thought of putting my children up for adoption at ages for 4 and 2 survive financially cross my mind, but here we are in 2026.

It was just a thought, I'm not going to, but holy shit. I make just over 6 figures. Single parent. When will this end? How are people making 60 or less surviving?

I mean..realistically well all die (likely from AI) before I do something like that

If being a good person doesn’t guarantee a good life, and being a bad person doesn’t guarantee consequences, what is the actual point of morality?

We grow up being told to be honest, kind, loyal, and respectful. But in real life, dishonest people sometimes become successful, selfish people find loving partners, and genuinely good people spend their lives struggling.
If morality doesn’t guarantee happiness, success, or justice, why should someone choose to be good when being selfish could benefit them more?
Is morality something we genuinely believe in, or is it something society teaches us because it makes people easier to control?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives, especially from people whose real-life experiences have changed how they see morality.

Should you share everything with your partner?

Certain situations are too complicated. You share, and it may lead to more complications. You don't share, and if it comes out sometime later, it becomes more complicated. Hiding also feels like cheating. It's hell convoluted situation. What to do?

25, zero female friend desperate to marry.

After a childhood trauma living a punctual, humble and good boy life. Till today I have never approached any girl even for friendship. Maybe because of rejection, responsibility and to prevent further complications in life, so to deal with this I always think about getting married so that I have my own partner and I can live a life with her and do everything for her just like people do for their loved one.

I need advice if I am thinking correctly because I am tired of being alone.

As A 30M Who Has Never Dated, I Feel Hopeless About My Future...

I don't even know where to begin. I've never been in a relationship, never been on a date, never approached a woman, never given a woman a compliment, never flirted with a woman, never held hands with a woman, and yes this also includes never having sex of any kind. Pretty much everything there is to experience with a woman I have never done so. I also have never had any female friends. To put it simply, I pretty much have lived my life having little to no interaction with women on a broad scale in any friendly manner and only having interactions as a bystander, like saying thank you when leaving a store, or saying hello when entering a store, or helping a customer (woman) at work. At school I never talked to girls. At work I never talked to female co-workers. Out in the world I barely talk to women. Why? I guess to put it simply, it's like when someone goes years without watching that hugely popular movie or tv show, it just never really crossed their radar, and then as time went on they just never really gave it any thought, until finally 5, 10 years later they watch it and they're like this is great, why did I wait all this time.

My life has also lacked the conventional ways of meeting women. I don't have friends therefore nobody is able to wingman me, or introduce me to their friends, or just generally put me in spaces to meet women. I don't really talk to anyone in my family who isn't in my immediate circle (mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather) and the same thing applies, I don't really have anyone that is able to generally put me in spaces to meet women. I'm not a extrovert at all, I don't go to bars, clubs, the gym, concerts/raves, or any kind of outside, socializing activity, therefore again I'm not being put in spaces to meet women. I'm an introvert through and through, I prefer being at home losing track of time playing video games or binging a tv show. And sure, nowadays there is a percentage of people who have met their significant other in a video game, or in an online chat room discussing their nerdy interests, but even with that I still barely talk to women, when I'm playing Call of Duty and there's a woman in the game I'm not going out of my way to talk to her, if anything I'm actually going out of my way to avoid her so that she doesn't think I'm a creep.

And then there are the issues of attraction, what you can/can't bring to the table, etc. I'm not good looking by any means. I don't make good money. In all honesty I really don't even have any goals, dreams, or aspirations for myself other than survive today and make it to tomorrow. I really don't think I bring anything to the table, I really don't think I could benefit someone else's life in any meaningful way, which is why I just haven't ever tried seriously putting myself out there. If we look at my existence as fish in a barrel, I'm the fish that's all the way at the bottom of the barrel, who isn't being looked at, who's suffocating, and by the time someone gets to me I'm most likely dead, rotting, and no use to anyone. I have never downloaded a dating app. Dating apps feel like the Major League and I don't think I really belong there. Dating apps are for people who have something to offer, and I on the other hand don't have anything to offer.

So yeah, idk, that's my life. I feel hopeless. I genuinely don't feel like love is something I'm meant to experience in my time here. I just don't feel like I'm good enough. I’m not the kind of guy women want.

My career, my life is over

As a CS grad with internship experience, projects and a good gpa, I was working overnight in a warehouse for $20 an hour after graduation. Im unemployed now. I'd be begging for money out on the streets if I didn't have parents to live with, and/or lying unconscious on the curb from taking some drugs right about now. If I didn't have familial support after 18 years old... I wouldn't be alive.

There's nothing I can rlly do now. I don't have money for another degree, entry roles in tech are only shrinking more and more, and I haven't rlly seen any of those fabled jobs that just want any bachelor's degree. I don't really have much to work with. Swe internships, a warehouse job and basic customer service experience. That's it.

I have negative desire to go back to school for anything, so fuck that.

It's over. This is why I spit in the face of people worried about population collapse.  As it stands, our system does not want to offer the next generation gainful employment. Instead we're told to "work for free", "do a side hustle", "go back to college", or maybe, just maybe they get asked "why don't you have experience?"

Don't make me laugh.

I dream about getting rich every second

Hi everyone, I hope this is somewhat the right subreddit.

So, every since I was a little girl I had this wish of becoming rich. It has become more like a feeling nowadays. I feel like I KNOW I will be rich someday. I can’t stop thinking about it, it won’t leave my head. At the same time I’m wondering if it’s healthy to think about something you don’t have that much. What if I’ll never get rich? Will I ever be satisfied with what I have now? I don’t complain about my current life, but I know there could be so much more to it. I don’t want to miss out on anything… I am now 25 and I feel like I’ll soon be too old to get rich. (aka I need to come up with a plan NOW)

Does anyone feel the same? Does my thoughts process even make any sense??

It took me nearly 40 years of existing on this planet, and perhaps finally becoming a fully realized adult, to understand that sports are a form of religion.

People worship athletes with the same reverence traditionally reserved for religious figures, treating them as ‘larger-than-life’ beings whose “accomplishments” inspire unquestioning admiration and devotion. Their jerseys become sacred garments, their memorabilia treasured relics, and their stadiums places of worship.

What’s particularly interesting to me is how many grown adults, especially men, seem to revert to something resembling a child’s mentality when it comes to sports. Otherwise rational, emotionally mature adults suddenly become irrational, tribal, and astonishingly emotionally invested in a game. It’s as though some part of their childhood never quite grew up. The same blind loyalty, the same playground rivalries, the same inability to accept that their team might not be the greatest thing in the world. It’s fascinating how sports seem to provide a socially acceptable outlet for adults to behave in ways we’d otherwise consider remarkably childish.

But perhaps the most fascinating similarity to religion is how people react when you tell them you don’t find sports particularly interesting. They look at you like you’re insane. Some even get defensive, as though your indifference is a personal attack. It’s remarkably similar to telling a deeply religious person you don’t believe in God. Suddenly, your lack of belief becomes something they feel compelled to question, challenge, or ridicule.

Stadiums are churches. Jerseys are religious garments. Championships are salvation, the ultimate reward for years of unwavering faith and suffering. And apparently, calling it “sportsball” is a form of blasphemy. There’s even an entire subreddit, [r/sportsball](r/sportsball), devoted to mocking people who dare to express their indifference toward sports. Apparently, the nonbelievers are such a threat that they warrant their own congregation of critics.

I’m not suggesting there’s anything wrong with enjoying sports. I enjoy them myself from time to time, purely as entertainment. But one of the more interesting aspects of getting older is realizing how much of what we consider important is simply inherited, socially reinforced, or entirely manufactured. Sports are a fascinating example of humanity’s desperate need to belong to something larger than itself, even when that something is ultimately just a game among many games.

Perhaps part of becoming an adult is recognizing that you don’t actually have to care about the things everyone else insists are important.

And perhaps what bothers sports fans the most isn’t your lack of enthusiasm, but the uncomfortable reminder that their devotion is entirely optional, and the meaning they’ve attached to it exists only because they’ve decided it does.

I want to be able to go to places on my own time

I'm 18 and still live with my parents. I can’t even go to places on my own time. I don't know how to drive for one, and my parents are really busy. If I ask for something from them, I'll have to wait months to get it. I want to be able to go to places I need to on my own time. Like stores or gyms or friends' houses. Maybe I can get a taxi to take me there, with my parents' permission, but that probably won't work because my Dad doesn't take anything seriously. Maybe I could ask someone I know to take me there with my parents' permission.

Anyone in a similar situation to me, what do do?

ADVICE: Just Moved In - Treats for Neighbors?

Husband and I just moved in to an apartment, and this is my first time ever living in an apartment.

I would love to introduce ourselves to our immediate apartment neighbors and give them a little treat. Something like "Hey, I'm X, my husband is Z, we just moved in to apartment YYY, and here's a little treat from your new neighbors". I love baking so I was thinking cookies/muffins or something like that.

Is this too much? It's weird to me that you might live so close to people you don't even know the names and who they are lol

EDIT: I would drop note and treats by their door and let them decide if they want to respond or ignore, which is totally fine if they prefer to ignore as well lol

How do you figure out what you can actually afford to spend?

You check your account and there’s money there, but some of it still needs to cover bills, groceries, and whatever’s coming up before you get paid again.
How do you work out what’s actually available for you to spend? Do you have a system, keep a rough number in your head, or just hope you didn’t forget anything?

Why is being an adult so unnecessarily expensive?

You get paid, pay your bills, buy groceries, and somehow your money disappears before you’ve even had a chance to enjoy it.

Is this really what everyone meant when they said growing up would be fun? 😭

Does anyone else feel like they’re working just to afford existing?
