Screenshot [Oot] Design retrocons in the remake?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have really enjoyed spotting the design retrocons Nintendo has introduced into the Ocarina of Time remake.

The sky and grass colours of Hyrule field now match those introduced in Breath of the Wild, defeated enemies now explode in purple smoke, Impa’s house has seen a facelift.

Have you spotted any others?
(E.g. locked doors now glow with purple energy i.e. malice)

EDIT 1: having read some comments- I’m not talking about the art style, I’m talking about the design. Things can have the same design but in same art styles.

So things that have been introduced in games that came after OoT and are now being brought into the remake.

Question [OoT] I've never played a Zelda game in my life and plan to buy the OoT remake. Is it a good starting point and do I need to know anything before diving in?

Basically the title. I've never played a Zelda game in my life, even though I grew up with a Nintendo DS. I was more of a Pokemon and Mario nerd, and even though I generally love fantasy adventure games and dungeon exploration games, I just never happened to get into Zelda.

Ever since buying Switch 2 last year, I've been thinking of buying BotW and TotK, but had other games to play and I was consantly postponing it. I've finally decided to get into the franchise with the upcoming OoT remake.

But I have no idea about the lore (apart from a very course idea of who Link and Zelda are) and I was wondering if OoT would be a good starting point for my journey. I also know it's the 4th game in the timeline, so should I watch recap video of the first 3?

Thanks for the help!

Discussion [ToTK] [ALL] Why is a Totk "refounding" more popular than just a parallel timeline?

The idea that Hyrule was destroyed and then rebuilt in the exact same way, where they simultaneously had no idea about the old kingdom but also knew everything about the old kingdom, was always a silly idea. That somehow took off in the fandom, but surely it makes much more sense that the wild era's history is just a parallel version, whether a split or just a straight alternate world? A Hyrule founded by the Zonai instead of the Oocca, where all the references and easter eggs are from events similar to the main timeline but not the exact same, where Ganondorf was born during Hyrule's founding instead of later on, the Imprisoning War was over the stones instead of the Triforce, etc etc. Just curious on people's thoughts as to why a 're-founding' is more mainstream despite being more convoluted.

Has anyone come across any footage of the Happy Mask shop from the recent Ocarina of Time showcase event? I have seen some YouTubers enter into some of the other shops in Castle Town but not this one

Question [BotW] Beginner tips for an inexperienced player

Hey guys, new to the subreddit and relatively new to the Legend of Zelda. I have very limited experience with a couple of games, particularly Breath of the Wild. I got it a couple years ago, played for about an hour, had no idea what I was doing or where I was going, and died numerous times, and just stopped playing the game after that. But with the hype around the OoT remake releasing soon, I’ve been inspired to try again and want to give BotW another shot, as I’ve heard it’s easily one of the best Zelda games. Is there any good tips for someone who’s, basically, just starting out with the game? Thank you in advance 🙂

Discussion [MM] How many people can you actually save in Majora's Mask?

My question is pretty simple.

In Majora's Mask, every time you reset the three-day cycle, all the people you've helped go back to their original situations. No matter how many lives you've saved or problems you've solved, most of it gets undone when you play the Song of Time.

Of course, as you progress through the game, you unlock more items, masks, songs, and shortcuts that let you complete certain quests much faster.

Usually, once players have everything they need to beat the game, they just skip ahead to the Final Night and go straight to Majora.

But that got me thinking: what's the maximum number of people you can actually save in a single three-day cycle?

Let's say Link already has every item, mask, and ability he needs. Instead of simply waiting for the Final Night, he decides to spend those last three days helping as many people as possible before heading to the moon to defeat Majora.

How many side quests could he realistically complete? How many people could he save? And what would the optimal route look like?

And if we assume that saving absolutely everyone is impossible, who should Link prioritize? Which quests are the most time-sensitive, which ones absolutely cannot be postponed, and which would make the biggest difference if completed before the end of the world?

I'm especially curious about which quests can be completed in the same cycle, which ones might conflict with each other, and whether anyone has ever tried to plan out a run like this.

Basically, what's the closest we can get to a "save everyone" ending in Majora's Mask without resetting time again?

Discussion [OoT] You are all right - the remake is and isn't 1:1

Maybe I am late to the party. Haven't had the time to engage that much.

But I keep seeing the discussion of " it is 1:1" and "it isn't 1:1".

Both are right. It is 1:1.1 of maybe 1:1.2.

If you expected 1:1 - it feels like it isn't. And if you expected 1:5, it feels like 1:1.

Both are right.

They seem to have updated some things and added other things. I would maybe have hoped for more. A 1:1.5 where they had expanded several sections and maybe added something large.

But maybe it will be revealed later. A man can hope.

Anyway, you are both right! It all depends on your perspective and the expectations one had

Question [OoTHD] I wish the remake has a two player mode

• Upvotes

I grew up playing Zelda like many of you here, and today I am a father. I play Mario Odyssey and Bowser’s Fury with my son and he loves being the side kick, even though he can play these games by himself with no issues.

I can’t help but wish there would be a two player mode in this remake so we can play together instead of sharing the controller. I have no idea how that would even work, maybe player two can do some stuff as Navi? Trick mobs, call people attention, help aim, etc. Anyway, it’s just a wish of a father who enjoys this feature a lot.

Do you also like that?

Can’t wait to play the game with my son and explore Hyrule while we talk about the lore of the game.

See you all there!

Official Art [TP] One of my BIGGEST gripes with Twilight Princess 🥵🔥

Post image
0 Upvotes

I know Twilight Princess is a beloved game among Zelda fans, so this might get a few of you sharpening your Master Swords. 😂 But with the upcoming OOT remake featuring the Hero of Time, I feel like I need to get this off my chest before Nintendo decides to remake more games.

Hear me out. I’ve beaten Twilight Princess three times, and while I think the game has some great things going for it, especially the dungeons and combat, I’ve never been the biggest fan of its character designs AT ALL.

Link, human Midna, and Zelda look great, but some of the NPCs? Man, I don’t know what happened there. 😅I feel like quite a few designs range from questionable to downright UNFORTUNATE.

However, the one that has always bothered me the most is the Hero’s Shade 😑
This is supposed to be the legendary Hero of Time, one of the most iconic versions of Link in the entire series, and he looks like a generic skeleton enemy you’d fight in the first dungeon of some random RPG. 💀 I just can’t get over it.
I understand the lore behind the character, and I know the Hero of Time eventually became a knight and died as a normal soldier (please correct me if I’m wrong). But as a character designer myself, I really feel like they could’ve done something much more interesting and cool with his appearance. He’s such an important character in Zelda lore, and I think his design could’ve done a much better job of reflecting that.

Of course, I could be completely alone on this. Maybe you think the design is amazing, and I’m just a Zelda fan who needs to touch grass. 😂 And hey, I’m open to hearing different opinions!

With the new OOT release getting closer, I’ve been nerding out over all things Zelda, so I figured I’d finally share this unpopular opinion.
What do you guys think? Am I cooking, or should I be banned from Hyrule? 😂

Question [MM] Is it Worth Another Playthrough?

A few years ago after I beat Ocarina of Time, I decided to try and play Marjoras Mask (N64). I love so much about the game, but found myself having the hardest time with the 3 day night cycle. It wasn't that the game was so difficult but I just felt always stressed about time management, and always feeling like I was going too slow through dungeons. And couldn't get through some of the side quests properly. I got a decent way through the game until I gave up and went on to another zelda game.

I've wanted to go back and give it another shot so badly with a different, and positive mindset. Especially after realizing that there were some changes I've heard about in the 3ds version of the game. I want to love this game so bad. (And btw I know there are changes in the 3ds version people don't like lol)

Question [OoT] Ocarina of Time 2026 Preorder

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello, I preordered Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 on Nintendos website weeks ago. However, I’m just now finding out that they typically don’t ship their items until the day of release.

My preferences are:

  1. To have a physical FOIL cover copy
  2. To play it as soon as possible

I’ve heard that it’s generally cheaper in the states from Amazon or Walmart. But, when I go onto their sites, only digital copies have a listed price.

I would just like to get some input from the community so that I can play according to my listed preferences as closely as I can.

Should I cancel the preorder or play it safe? Would Amazon and Walmart have a higher chance of delivering on release day if I could get an order through them? How often have they been restocking, considering they currently seem to be out? What have your past experiences been, and what do you recommend?

Discussion [OoT] Can't decide if I should pre order a physical copy of the remake, or get a digital version.

Yeah the title basically explains my dilemma.

I'm not a video game collector by any means, I just enjoy playing them. I do remember I went to a midnight release for TOTK at a Gamestop to pick up my pre order, and it was fun to stand in line and chat with other fans, get it at midnight, head home and stay up playing it.

I was planning on getting it digitally and once again staying up to play it, but now I'm second guessing myself. A Best Buy near me is doing a midnight release event, which sounds like it might be fun but also ik it's probably just waiting in line. I do think the foil part for pre orders is really cool too. Trying to decide if it's just fomo or if I'm actually missing out on something. Curious on thoughts here.

For what it's worth, I don't intend to go after the 40th anniversary switch 2 or the controller or anything. The switch 2 coming in is actually a 40th anniversary edition that i pre ordered so im good there.

Discussion [OoT] So are you guys excited for the Princess-Mononoke-inspired Ocarina of Time remake?

Context: Miyamoto was inspired by Studio Ghibli's "Princess Mononoke"

https://goodblood.games/ootmiyamotogamejin1998

Also, have you watched Goodblood's Youtube video "Ocarina of Time - A Masterclass in Subtext" yet?

https://youtu.be/GyUcwsjyd8Q?is=y4v-FlqNhxdCpj_b

Would love to have a discussion about:

•Your reaction to Princess Mononoke

•Your thoughts on Good Blood's video

•What you think of Shintoism

•What you think about including sexual traumatization in the Great Fairy

and any other related things or lore

(edit: no I'm not GoodBlood, I'm just interested in what people think of this stuff)
