Local Business Has anyone actually managed to contact HISTORY Ottawa? Accessibility concerns and zero response after two months.
EDIT: they got back to me, it’s been sorted thank you to everyone who offered advice.
Hey [r/ottawa](r/ottawa),
Has anyone actually had any luck getting in touch with HISTORY Ottawa?
Here’s the deal.
I’m attending the upcoming Marianas Trench show, and on August 20, I emailed the venue’s designated accessibility address with a fairly straightforward accommodation request.
I have cerebral palsy, and one of my concerns was their policy prohibiting outside water bottles, including empty ones.
At a packed general admission concert, repeatedly navigating through hundreds of people to get water isn’t particularly practical when you have a mobility disability.
I asked whether I could bring an empty reusable plastic bottle, have security inspect it, and fill it inside the venue. Pretty reasonable compromise, I’d think.
I also suggested that the venue consider allowing disabled patrons to enter 10–15 minutes before general doors, much like airline preboarding, to give people with mobility challenges a chance to get situated before the crowds come pouring in.
I wasn’t asking for VIP treatment. Just a couple of relatively simple accessibility accommodations.
Fast-forward 64 days. Not a single response.
I’ve also tried finding a direct telephone number for HISTORY Ottawa, but apparently a major Live Nation concert venue doesn’t have one publicly listed. Nor can I find publicly available direct contact information for venue management.
I understand that venues receive a lot of correspondence, but surely accessibility accommodation requests shouldn’t disappear into a black hole for over two months, especially when the venue itself directs disabled patrons to that email address.
So, genuine questions:
Has anybody successfully contacted HISTORY Ottawa by telephone?
Has anyone received a response from their accessibility department?
Does anyone have a reliable way of reaching venue management?
I’m genuinely looking forward to the show. I just find it pretty frustrating that I tried to arrange everything months in advance, followed the venue’s own instructions, and still can’t get a basic answer.
You’d think accessibility communications would be a fairly important part of operating a major concert venue.

Be Careful Out There - Shout Out
A Bike hit me today, they were going through a red light and I did not see them since there was a semi-truck blocking the view of the crosswalk.
I am seeing a lot of crazy things on the roads nowadays, and people need to start thinking about safety! People can die, follow the speed limits and follow lights / signage. Trust me, I feel pretty bad for something 100% out of my control, I would be mentally broken if I took someone’s life.
Darcy, I know you said it’s your fault and everything is ok. It could have been so much worse, I looked at the footage and god was watching out for you today. You didn’t have a phone number and no address and no way to reach out to you but I am not mad at you for the damages, I wasn’t looking to get compensation.
I am 100% mad at the people honking at me when I got out to make sure he is ok, and then when I pull over to the side to get more information and you guys keep honking!
Darcy (if that is your real name), god bless you brother and you seem like a good guy and I hope you wait for the green light next time!

Analysis: Think of the city you want when you vote on Oct. 26
Can Britain give Ottawa an object lesson on the diusastrous effect of continued underfunding of municipal services? And before we do a complete review of all city services, remember how badly the last one in 2003-4 went.

Looking for... Nail polish thinner (2 ingredient) available locally?
Some of my polishes are getting gloopy so I'm in need of a thinner, however most of my collection is glitter/shimmers so the thinner really needs to be only butyl and ethyl acetate. I can find some options online, but I really don't need anything else rn so it ends up being $20 shipping for a $6-10 product 🙃
Does anyone know if there's any local beauty supply stores that sell a polish thinner with just those two ingredients? I don't drive, so I need a clear target in advance!
Alternatively, Cristine if you're reading this and have a secret stash of Holo Taco thinner to sell on the Ottawa nail polish black market hmu 🙂↕️

Looking for... Where should I go to practice driving?
Hi,
I'm a relatively new driver, and Irecently narrowly avoided a car crash. The experience was terrifying, anx since then I've been scared to drive.
I'm out of practice, and my car can't just sit there. I've been told to use it or else it will get damaged from lack of use.
I'm looking for places to practice driving that won't give me a panic attack, or worse.
I'm open to all suggestions!
Thanks!
EDIT: I completely forgot to add where I'm located so I can actually use the suggestions here.
NEPEAN LOCATIONS ONLY PLEASE.
EDIT 2: I've decided to elaborate a bit. I have a G2, and I did my driving education at Young Drivers.
The incident that caused me to become traumatized is this: I was trying to merge but the person behind me (an entitled mid 50's white woman) wouldn't let me. She got insanely angry at the mere thought of someone trying to merge in front of her.
She then sped up into the lane next to me and started screaming at me though her window. She was screaming so loud that I could hear her through both our closed windows and her window was covered in spit.
I was terrified but ignored her. What else could I do?
Then, as we were turning onto Robertson Rd she TRIES TO RAM ME. I had to swerve into the median, and hit a sign, just to avoid her. It was fucking terrifying.
Since then, I've been fucking terrified to get behind the wheel. I hate driving in my city.

Weather Help from outdoors people/parents!
I had a baby in June and have no clue how to dress her in the winter months?!
For context I like going on light hikes around the NCR and I’ve only live here a couple of years, so I’ve never paid attention to how babies are being dressed for outdoors.
Do babies get taken on hikes in the winter?
Do I wear her in a carrier against my body, or is a hiking backpack okay in the winter months?
Please don’t say “wear one extra layer than you” because that still makes zero sense to me! lol
I need specifics people!!
Also, for stroller walls, a muffpuff or whatever they’re called and like what is she wearing?
Thank you :)

My bike was stolen
My Fiore Modena pink & white bike was stolen from my backyard in Centretown last night. It has a Velo Orange Brand granny handlebar with black grips. White brake line casing and black rear wheel rack. There's a tear on the seat cushion.
I know it's a long shot to get it back but it's worth a try. I really love that bike.
(This seems to be the only picture I have of it)
