Sparks St. Pavement Art Damaged
Ordinary wear and tear? Or deliberate vandalism? Hard to say, but they're all intact except for Alberta. (They've been holding up better than I expected.)

Hi all - Is there somewhere in Ottawa or Gatineau that I can get fresh herring? Or frozen herring? It’s pickling time!

Hi, we have a three car driveway in Sandy Hill, and the snow clearing contract just went up to more than $600. For a warm winter, they might not come by more than half a dozen times, generously 10 minutes each time. That's an effective rate of about $600 an hour. And if our cars are in the driveway, they only clear the first couple feet, and are gone in under a minute.
Any suggestions for on demand snow clearing? It would be heaven if I could call a number and have them come by within an hour or so when we need it. I'd be willing to pay for that.
Or other suggestions for good and fairly priced snow clearing in Sandy Hill area?
(To be fair, I know the machines aren't cheap, gas is expensive, and the drivers themselves are often working all night in terrible weather - I respect that.)
I know I should’ve done more research and stuff but the elections coming up.. where can I go and read about each candidate? Just their websites or are there other places?

Is there anyone in Ottawa who would LOVE to see the Backstreet Boys but has been hesitant to go because they don’t have anyone to go with?
My friend and I are going to the concert, and we’d love to find another fan to join us! 🥹
Maybe you’ve always wanted to see them live, grew up listening to them, or just don’t want to miss out on an amazing experience because you don’t have someone to go with.
This could be your chance! You wouldn’t have to go alone — you’d have two fellow fans to enjoy the concert with! We have an extra ticket in the 200s on Feb 28 and would love to make a new friend! 🎶💃
If this sounds like you, send me a message! I’d love to chat and see if we could make it happen. 💙
Everybody deserves their Backstreet Boys concert moment! ❤️🔥

I submitted my Mail in ballot on Oct 4, 2026 after making a reddit post about the address on the envelope being potentially incorrect. Reddit confirmed the address is correct but I received an email from the City today saying they didn't receive my ballot.
I mailed it from a Canada Post mailbox in downtown Ottawa almost 16 days ago and am leaving the country on Friday. Elections Ottawa says I can only submit a vote on polling day now that the advanced polling date has past.
What options do I have and is anyone else in the same boat? I didn't expect that the city wouldn't receive the ballot and will never to mail-in ballots again.
I found a mobile phone on OC Transpo bus 63 (Tunney’s Pasture) around 4:55 pm. The owner called the phone and I answered, but the battery died shortly after. I handed the phone to the driver of bus #4657 at approximately 5:00 pm.
If this is your phone (or you know whose it is), please contact OC Transpo lost and found or check with the driver/bus company.

Are there less airplanes over downtown Ottawa this evening?

I was driving to work, westbound on the Kitchi Zibbi around 4:10, and I saw what looked like a meteorite (comet? Idk proper terminology) and it seemed to be going directly downward. It disappeared after a few minutes. I tried to get a video but couldn't capture it as it was too close to the sun. Anyone else see it??

Think your one vote for councillor, mayor, and school board trustee on October 26 won’t make any difference? This look at a past Centretown election might convince you otherwise.

Pumpkins for the Planet is back! Every year, we divert a massive amount of pumpkins away from the landfill and redistribute them to local farms, composts and food centres.
Pulling off an event this size takes a village, and right now, we need folks to help behind the scenes. Whether you have a dump truck, a laptop, or just some free time, there are plenty of ways to get involved beyond simply dropping off your jack-o'-lanterns:
If any of these sound like your kind of gig, drop a comment below, send a DM, or fill out our volunteer form [Click here]. Let's smash some pumpkin waste records this year! 🎃

So back in late August or early September, I saw a CTV news article that Ottawa voters should go online and verify that they were included on the voters registration list. The article also noted that several long-time residents had found they were not on the list, despite having voted many times previously.
Lo and behold, my name was not found on the online lookup tool, so I followed the online prompts to correct this and make sure I was registered to vote. At the same time, I requested a mail-in ballot package.
Before even hearing back from the city, I received election instructions in the mail, indicating to me that I was already registered (as I should have been, given I’ve been voting in Ottawa for over 30 years).
Only after receiving the instructions noted above, did I receive two separate confirmation e-mails: one that I’d been added to the list, the other that I’d receive the mail-in ballot the week of September 21, with a due date of October 16.
I received the package, and mailed the ballot with my own two hands in a community mailbox in Ottawa proper, on October 5 or 6, allowing 10 days for it to reach the destination in the same city.
This morning, I received an email from the city that my ballot did not arrive in time and would not be counted, but that I still have the option to vote in person.
Now this could be a lost letter or mail processing screw-up, but based on the experience with the city thus far, I am reasonably and justifiably certain this is an administrative error on the city’s part, causing me to lose my vote and/or end up voting twice, depending on the nature of the screw-up.
I have replied to the elections office, but knowing that the initial snafu with the online voter lookup affected many people, I thought I’d post here and see if this has happened to others as it’s definitely something that needs to be looked into as part of the city’s process.

Hi, i am a novice roller skater and have gone to the roller rink (skate n play), as well as the Friday night roller skate events at Carleton.
HOWEVER, i am looking for some sort of facility or room i could rent out with a nice smooth floor where i could roller skate by myself or with a couple of friends over the winter.
I really want to practice and learn some tricks, and public places usually have way too many people around for that to be feasible. Especially the roller rink, it is so loud and it is 99% people skating in a circle. I just want to be able to hang out with a couple of friends, hear what they are saying, and practice spinning etc.
I was thinking about seeing if i could rent out a high school gym or something, but figured i would ask here too.
Thank you!

Update! Today whalesbone is dressed up like Linda’s lounge, flying Newfoundland flags and a come home 2016 sign. Maybe a flashback episode? Maybe a special event?

I was looking forward to the Ottawa Senators game tomorrow because you know who returns to Ottawa playing for the Florida Panthers. As you look at the TV schedule on my Rogers cable, I noticed that it’s not being aired on TV but rather being an exclusive to Amazon prime. This is ridiculous. Living in the very city where the game is being played and you can’t even enjoy it on TV because of some stupid subscription service. We’re getting subscription-serviced to death these days and I’m sick of It. Boooooo.

With less than a week to go until election day, a new opinion survey has incumbent Mark Sutcliffe with a single-digit lead over three-term city councillor Jeff Leiper in the race for mayor, with the rest of the field far behind.
The Quorus Consulting Group survey released Monday evening put Sutcliffe at 28 per cent among all respondents. Leiper was at 24 per cent, followed by Neil Saravanamuttoo at seven per cent and Alex Lawson at four per cent.

Did anyone else lose power in the Barrhaven/Riverside South/Chapman Mills area?
There’s nothing on the outage map at this time but am just wondering how wide spread it is. We typically don’t lose power in my unit even when surrounding areas do, so this is a bit of a surprise.
