Family doctors that have time?

I was recently assigned a family doctor but they only have 10 minutes to see me after a week of first calling and they restrict what you can talk about to 2 issues maximum. I thought having a family doctor means you get more time and care?

They didnt keep notes of our last meeting either nor measured my height and weight, blood pressure...

It felt like a walk-in.

Is this normal? Are there family doctors that actually have time in Ottawa to see patients?

This was worse than a walk-in.

Edit: Our taxes pay for health care so we need to have better standards. My previous doctor would spend 30 minutes per visit, follow up on medication and progress, recommend tests and give advice per life stage. This saves tax payer money by not going to emergency and by taking care of my health.

This seemed like a business.

Edit 2: damn, I didnt realize this has been normalized. I had a doctor in an old practice in QC until the doctor retired. It was a true health care. As someone with few chronic health issues, monitoring matters. I shouldnt be in the ER if something wrong happens. I thought ON had a better health care.

Edit 3: are you looking for a family doctor and dont need long time? DM me :)

Power Outage - Barrhaven/Riverside South Area

Did anyone else lose power in the Barrhaven/Riverside South/Chapman Mills area?

There’s nothing on the outage map at this time but am just wondering how wide spread it is. We typically don’t lose power in my unit even when surrounding areas do, so this is a bit of a surprise.

Local Event Senators vs Panthers game tomorrow not on local TV. Booo.

I was looking forward to the Ottawa Senators game tomorrow because you know who returns to Ottawa playing for the Florida Panthers. As you look at the TV schedule on my Rogers cable, I noticed that it’s not being aired on TV but rather being an exclusive to Amazon prime. This is ridiculous. Living in the very city where the game is being played and you can’t even enjoy it on TV because of some stupid subscription service. We’re getting subscription-serviced to death these days and I’m sick of It. Boooooo.

Moving truck - temp parking on no parking side

I am moving to a house in downtown Ottawa in a few weeks and am using a moving company. There is parking at the back of the house but a narrow lane way for access that I doubt the truck can navigate. The street has parking on one side only which happens to be the opposite side. So I will need to have the moving truck parked on the no parking side of the street. Is there a temporary permit to allow this situation?

With less than a week to go until election day, a new opinion survey has incumbent Mark Sutcliffe with a single-digit lead over three-term city councillor Jeff Leiper in the race for mayor, with the rest of the field far behind.

The Quorus Consulting Group survey released Monday evening put Sutcliffe at 28 per cent among all respondents. Leiper was at 24 per cent, followed by Neil Saravanamuttoo at seven per cent and Alex Lawson at four per cent.

Local Event The Royal's Urgent Care Clinic - a review from someone who's gone.

Hey local folks,

As someone who has gone to the UCC at the Royal that opened I figured it might do some good to those who are in need of the services but are hesitant to go if I gave a quick recap of my experience there.

Keep in mind, I'm someone who's got +5 grippy sock stays, my Dx's came from the Royal themselves, and I am what is considered "complex" by psychiatrists who don't feel like they want to be bothered to spend more than five minutes actually listening to me. My experience is much more... disappointing than the average person's when they're doing their first or second attempt at seeking assistance. I'm pretty much at the end of my reaching out for assistance at this point in my life.

So! With that in mind, the Urgent Care Clinic at the Royal Ottawa gets an 8/10 from me.

I showed up around 1100, and the intake clerk was on lunch. The person at the front desk was beyond apologetic and went hunting for someone right away. They are intensely short staffed because of funding for the project, so a peer support worker hung out with me, and a social worker came around, and we did some general paperwork while waiting for the clerk to return from lunch. Everyone was incredibly supportive and chill. Even the security team that happened by were friendly (a massive difference from other hospitals in the area).

The space itself is brand new, nicely designed, and calm. There's nothing too oppressive about it. The security doors are double-wide, and the chairs are comfortable. Even the lighting is mellow (well lit without being glaring).

I spent about three hours there in total. Went over my situation and options with peer support (totally recommend this), the intake nurse (fantastic person), and the social worker (could not have had a better person doing this either). Everyone was on their top game right up until the psychiatrist, but for me that's usually where the experience becomes a disappointment anyways. I'm very used to them going, "well we can't do X Y or Z" .... when I never asked them for any of those things... and then I get conflicting information that leads me to the idea that they didn't even speak with the rest of the team... so yeah. Luckily, you can go to the UCC and speak with anyone you wish and opt out of speaking with the psychiatrists is what I learned so there's that.

I showed up pretty much expecting that they would be at their 20-person capacity for the day, so overall I got way more than I expected. I didn't leave with any immediate solutions for my situation, but I did leave feeling incredibly validated by the peer support and social worker about the absolute chaos in my life and the impact it's having on my condition.

They're only getting docked two points for their website not making it clear that you can opt out of seeking the psychiatrists and that you might have to wait while admin is on lunch. Otherwise, I am fully recommending the UCC as an option for people who are looking for access to resources that keep them out of a hospitalization and don't know where to turn in their situation.

Go. Go and let them help you. They want to be there for you.

Pest issues (townhouse)

Hey all, having some pest issues in my townhouse. Neighbours have roaches and are doing very little to solve the issue. Their landlord is willing to treat both their house and mine, but feeling really stuck right now. Neighbours seem fine living like this and in fact seem to find it harder to prep the house for pest control than to actually live with the pests.

The condo corp hasn’t been a ton of help, and I don’t know how much they can actually do, but I keep trying them anyway. I knew bylaw couldn’t do much but spoke to them anyway - no dice. Aside from keeping up with pest control and cleanliness myself, do I have any other options?

Note: If you are coming to one session or all of them, please register to help our awesome host Old Ottawa East CAG know how much to setup for us.

Next 5 Dates (Tuesdays 6-9pm):

If you would like to donate in advance of the session, there is now an option for that (it means you won't have to carry cash!). If you would like to donate in person at the session or not donate at all, then choose the free registration option. Please choose whichever method is right for you. We want you to be there, whether or not you have the funds to donate.

Also, join fellow your fellow SHK members on our member run Discord Server.

If you are sick, we'd appreciate you staying home. Some of the individuals in our group have co-morbidities that make them more vulnerable to contagions. So rest well, and come back when you're better. We'll still be here!

TL;DR A cozy third space to meet like minded fabric & fiber crafters, drink tea, share a laugh, and definitely see some cool projects!

Does anybody know if there are any places i can rent out or visit to roller skate inside, OTHER than skate n play?

• Upvotes

Hi, i am a novice roller skater and have gone to the roller rink (skate n play), as well as the Friday night roller skate events at Carleton.

HOWEVER, i am looking for some sort of facility or room i could rent out with a nice smooth floor where i could roller skate by myself or with a couple of friends over the winter.

I really want to practice and learn some tricks, and public places usually have way too many people around for that to be feasible. Especially the roller rink, it is so loud and it is 99% people skating in a circle. I just want to be able to hang out with a couple of friends, hear what they are saying, and practice spinning etc.

I was thinking about seeing if i could rent out a high school gym or something, but figured i would ask here too.

Thank you!
