Municipal Affairs New survey shows Sutcliffe with single-digit lead over Leiper
With less than a week to go until election day, a new opinion survey has incumbent Mark Sutcliffe with a single-digit lead over three-term city councillor Jeff Leiper in the race for mayor, with the rest of the field far behind.
The Quorus Consulting Group survey released Monday evening put Sutcliffe at 28 per cent among all respondents. Leiper was at 24 per cent, followed by Neil Saravanamuttoo at seven per cent and Alex Lawson at four per cent.

💙 Calling all Ottawa Backstreet Boys fans! 💙
Is there anyone in Ottawa who would LOVE to see the Backstreet Boys but has been hesitant to go because they don’t have anyone to go with?
My friend and I are going to the concert, and we’d love to find another fan to join us! 🥹
Maybe you’ve always wanted to see them live, grew up listening to them, or just don’t want to miss out on an amazing experience because you don’t have someone to go with.
This could be your chance! You wouldn’t have to go alone — you’d have two fellow fans to enjoy the concert with! We have an extra ticket in the 200s on Feb 28 and would love to make a new friend! 🎶💃
If this sounds like you, send me a message! I’d love to chat and see if we could make it happen. 💙
Everybody deserves their Backstreet Boys concert moment! ❤️🔥

Think your vote doesn’t count? Chaos followed a low turnout in 1988
Think your one vote for councillor, mayor, and school board trustee on October 26 won’t make any difference? This look at a past Centretown election might convince you otherwise.

Object falling in sky?
I was driving to work, westbound on the Kitchi Zibbi around 4:10, and I saw what looked like a meteorite (comet? Idk proper terminology) and it seemed to be going directly downward. It disappeared after a few minutes. I tried to get a video but couldn't capture it as it was too close to the sun. Anyone else see it??

Elections Ottawa (falsely?) says mail-in ballot not received by deadline - anyone else?
So back in late August or early September, I saw a CTV news article that Ottawa voters should go online and verify that they were included on the voters registration list. The article also noted that several long-time residents had found they were not on the list, despite having voted many times previously.
Lo and behold, my name was not found on the online lookup tool, so I followed the online prompts to correct this and make sure I was registered to vote. At the same time, I requested a mail-in ballot package.
Before even hearing back from the city, I received election instructions in the mail, indicating to me that I was already registered (as I should have been, given I’ve been voting in Ottawa for over 30 years).
Only after receiving the instructions noted above, did I receive two separate confirmation e-mails: one that I’d been added to the list, the other that I’d receive the mail-in ballot the week of September 21, with a due date of October 16.
I received the package, and mailed the ballot with my own two hands in a community mailbox in Ottawa proper, on October 5 or 6, allowing 10 days for it to reach the destination in the same city.
This morning, I received an email from the city that my ballot did not arrive in time and would not be counted, but that I still have the option to vote in person.
Now this could be a lost letter or mail processing screw-up, but based on the experience with the city thus far, I am reasonably and justifiably certain this is an administrative error on the city’s part, causing me to lose my vote and/or end up voting twice, depending on the nature of the screw-up.
I have replied to the elections office, but knowing that the initial snafu with the online voter lookup affected many people, I thought I’d post here and see if this has happened to others as it’s definitely something that needs to be looked into as part of the city’s process.

Local Event Senators vs Panthers game tomorrow not on local TV. Booo.
I was looking forward to the Ottawa Senators game tomorrow because you know who returns to Ottawa playing for the Florida Panthers. As you look at the TV schedule on my Rogers cable, I noticed that it’s not being aired on TV but rather being an exclusive to Amazon prime. This is ridiculous. Living in the very city where the game is being played and you can’t even enjoy it on TV because of some stupid subscription service. We’re getting subscription-serviced to death these days and I’m sick of It. Boooooo.

Pumpkins for the Planet is back! Here are 9 ways Ottawa can help behind the scenes.
Pumpkins for the Planet is back! Every year, we divert a massive amount of pumpkins away from the landfill and redistribute them to local farms, composts and food centres.
Pulling off an event this size takes a village, and right now, we need folks to help behind the scenes. Whether you have a dump truck, a laptop, or just some free time, there are plenty of ways to get involved beyond simply dropping off your jack-o'-lanterns:
- Do you own an insured dump truck or trailer? Transport is our biggest hurdle right now! Help us haul pumpkins from Ottawa South collection sites to Pumpkin Alley (759 Springland Dr) and local farms, and we’ll feature your business in all our promo.
- Do you want a free workout? If your motto is "tell me when and where," come help us load pumpkins into vehicles.
- Do you have space for a LOT of pumpkins? Be a local neighbourhood drop-off point.
- Do you want to help from the couch? Keep us on track by managing dates and drafting newsletter emails from home.
- Do you love connecting with people? Help us onboard and assign tasks to new volunteers via email.
- Do you enjoy fighting food waste? Call local food centers to ensure perfectly intact pumpkins get to humans who need them.
- Do you have an eye for design? Create posters and craft engaging posts for our social channels.
- Do you have hungry farm animals or need compost? If you have a farm and want nutritious pumpkins for livestock feed or soil enrichment, email us or fill out our farm-specific form!
- Do you love live events? Come volunteer in person with us at PumpkinFest on Sunday, November 8th!
If any of these sound like your kind of gig, drop a comment below, send a DM, or fill out our volunteer form [Click here]. Let's smash some pumpkin waste records this year! 🎃

Mail-In Ballot Wasn't Accepted
I submitted my Mail in ballot on Oct 4, 2026 after making a reddit post about the address on the envelope being potentially incorrect. Reddit confirmed the address is correct but I received an email from the City today saying they didn't receive my ballot.
I mailed it from a Canada Post mailbox in downtown Ottawa almost 16 days ago and am leaving the country on Friday. Elections Ottawa says I can only submit a vote on polling day now that the advanced polling date has past.
What options do I have and is anyone else in the same boat? I didn't expect that the city wouldn't receive the ballot and will never to mail-in ballots again.

Does anybody know if there are any places i can rent out or visit to roller skate inside, OTHER than skate n play?
Hi, i am a novice roller skater and have gone to the roller rink (skate n play), as well as the Friday night roller skate events at Carleton.
HOWEVER, i am looking for some sort of facility or room i could rent out with a nice smooth floor where i could roller skate by myself or with a couple of friends over the winter.
I really want to practice and learn some tricks, and public places usually have way too many people around for that to be feasible. Especially the roller rink, it is so loud and it is 99% people skating in a circle. I just want to be able to hang out with a couple of friends, hear what they are saying, and practice spinning etc.
I was thinking about seeing if i could rent out a high school gym or something, but figured i would ask here too.
Thank you!

Local Event The Royal's Urgent Care Clinic - a review from someone who's gone.
Hey local folks,
As someone who has gone to the UCC at the Royal that opened I figured it might do some good to those who are in need of the services but are hesitant to go if I gave a quick recap of my experience there.
Keep in mind, I'm someone who's got +5 grippy sock stays, my Dx's came from the Royal themselves, and I am what is considered "complex" by psychiatrists who don't feel like they want to be bothered to spend more than five minutes actually listening to me. My experience is much more... disappointing than the average person's when they're doing their first or second attempt at seeking assistance. I'm pretty much at the end of my reaching out for assistance at this point in my life.
So! With that in mind, the Urgent Care Clinic at the Royal Ottawa gets an 8/10 from me.
I showed up around 1100, and the intake clerk was on lunch. The person at the front desk was beyond apologetic and went hunting for someone right away. They are intensely short staffed because of funding for the project, so a peer support worker hung out with me, and a social worker came around, and we did some general paperwork while waiting for the clerk to return from lunch. Everyone was incredibly supportive and chill. Even the security team that happened by were friendly (a massive difference from other hospitals in the area).
The space itself is brand new, nicely designed, and calm. There's nothing too oppressive about it. The security doors are double-wide, and the chairs are comfortable. Even the lighting is mellow (well lit without being glaring).
I spent about three hours there in total. Went over my situation and options with peer support (totally recommend this), the intake nurse (fantastic person), and the social worker (could not have had a better person doing this either). Everyone was on their top game right up until the psychiatrist, but for me that's usually where the experience becomes a disappointment anyways. I'm very used to them going, "well we can't do X Y or Z" .... when I never asked them for any of those things... and then I get conflicting information that leads me to the idea that they didn't even speak with the rest of the team... so yeah. Luckily, you can go to the UCC and speak with anyone you wish and opt out of speaking with the psychiatrists is what I learned so there's that.
I showed up pretty much expecting that they would be at their 20-person capacity for the day, so overall I got way more than I expected. I didn't leave with any immediate solutions for my situation, but I did leave feeling incredibly validated by the peer support and social worker about the absolute chaos in my life and the impact it's having on my condition.
They're only getting docked two points for their website not making it clear that you can opt out of seeking the psychiatrists and that you might have to wait while admin is on lunch. Otherwise, I am fully recommending the UCC as an option for people who are looking for access to resources that keep them out of a hospitalization and don't know where to turn in their situation.
Go. Go and let them help you. They want to be there for you.
