Help

Ever since this one stopped blooming, and lost its stalk, anytime a leaf even gets remotely large jt turns yellow and drops. Could that just be part of its life cycle?? Should I take it out of the mulch?

Help Why is the spike browning??

I rescued this orchid from the clearance rack where it was in moss and completely root bound. That was at 4 months ago. The burnt leaves are what was already on it, the new leaves are what I've gotten it to grow. The spikes were already there, though I had cut them down some and they've grown back what was cut. So why am I randomly turning brown on the tip of one spike??? My roots look plump and healthy, I soak it in water for at least 20 minutes, once a week, then allow it to completely drain out. I bought some orchid fertilizer that I've used maybe 3 times now. Is that the reason? Should I stop fertilizing? Helllpppp 😭 this is my first one ever and I just want her to be happy!

Help Why are the blooms yellowing?

Hi everyone! This is a phal purple martin orchid that I bought from Home Depot a couple of months ago and it just started to show new blooms recently. I just repotted it from the bowl from Home Depot with no drainage into the new pot with drainage in the photos + gave it some water and misted some plant food onto its leaves and roots. Everything looked fine until this morning. Now the blooms are starting to look yellow. Should I be concerned?

I just bought these fertilizer sticks for orchids. I wanted to use them on my phalaenopsis and my spathoglottis. Are they good and do you have experience using them?

Hello - I just came back from a trip and noticed this brown spot on the under side of one of my orchids. I’ve looked online but can see anything that looks the same as what the leaf is showing. Is this something to be concerned about? thank you!

Help Help with getting Phals to bloom and repotting

Hi all
I have been really trying hard with my orchid collection, I have a lot of houseplants but still feel a little novice with orchids.

I have two bigger phals, the larger was my first and it struggled as I learned things but I think it’s now in good shape. I would really like to get it to bloom but I just am not sure how to get the temperature change. I’ve set it next to a window to try and cool it down overnight - is this the best way? I live in Ottawa Canada so I can’t put it outside.

My slightly smaller Phal has actually rebloomed in my care but I don’t think it even got a temperature change. Both of its flower spikes are still green so I’m keeping them but I’m wondering if I should repot now?

Thank you!

Help Picked up a Odontocidium Catatante ā€œSun Kingā€ orchid for 1/2-off then realized it's quite different from the Phalaenopsis ones I'm used to.

The bloom stalk was already dried out and breaking over, so I snipped it off.

Now I just need to know what the best potting situation is for this guy. I saw they can be very finicky about repotting, but I have no idea what's in this pot from the store (looks like possible orchid bark, sphagnum, and perlite) or how long it's been in it, and I'd like to get him as healthy a setup as I can.

This is the pot he came in, sitting on one of my trays.

Please help me—my orchid is sick!!!

Hi, how are you? I'm just getting started in the world of orchids, and I'm having this problem with my orchid—it seems to be sick: it has some spotty marks on part of the stem and on the leaves. I water it once a week; it's in a pine bark-based potting mix. I live in a warm climate, though I keep the orchid in a well-ventilated spot with filtered light, and I water it once a week, checking the condition of its roots. Before these black spots appeared, I was using an organic fungicide called X-Ray, but ever since I started using it, I’ve noticed these spots have appeared. So I don’t know how to treat my plant—can you recommend a product? Also, could you help me understand why this happened?

Hello fellow orchid lovers! I’m trying to find a way to create some self watering pots for leca because the ones available in my country are priced as if they are from gold. I came up with this today but wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this or any other tactics to creating a self watering pots. I was thinking of getting some yarn as the wick and closing the holes of the bottom pot with some hot glue. Any advice will be much appreciated!

Help with work orchids

Hi guys I’ve never taken care of an orchid before but I saw these ones at my work dying so I wanted to see if I could save them. They were in wet moss so I repotted them the best I could in some bark I bought. I watered them last week Wednesday but today they look way more yellow and the middle one is a bit purple. Any advice on how to care for these would be rly helpful

Question Are the roots burnt? Or is this mold?

Hello. I have a phalaenopsis orchid that’s been sitting on a southeastern window sill for a few months. Upon inspection today, it appears that the top roots may have been burned by light entering the window. Does the discoloration shown appear to be a burn or do you think it’s a sign of illness?

The plant otherwise appears to be thriving. New roots, two new leaves, and even a new branch from its stem!

Question Brassavola leaf question

Post image

First time getting into Brassavola and I’m wondering why some seem to grow upright leaves while others are more pendant/horizontal? Is it to do with lighting, age, or species?

Pic from Google. I’m sooooo excited for my B. Little Stars to arrive. Feel free to tell me about your experience with its fragrance too!✨

Help Advice needed (Cambria help)

Bought this Cambria a while ago, it has lost all its roots, I then had it in a plastic bag with some moss to try to encourage new roots but none have grown, the pseudo bulb has shrivelled a lot and it only has like one leaf left. At the moment I have it just like this under grow lights as am unsure whether dry or moist conditions are best in this situation. Can anyone more experienced help please?

Second bloom on my young species nodosa (three flowers on one spike, plus another spike coming in). I have no info on its background, but I've suspected for a while that it's a 4N or maybe actually a grandiflora (which are maybe the same thing? I'm not certain). The flowers are about 4.5" across, which is larger than most nodosa flowers I've seen. Also, for some reason the lateral sepals remain fused on this spike. Probably just didn't water quite enough when they were opening, but whatever. Looks pretty cool, and they still smell absolutely amazing.

The Adrian Hamilton (nodosa x perrinii - with the bamboo supports) is a very frequent bloomer. This is its fourth bloom cycle in just over a year. I'm not quite as fond of the fragrance as I am of the species nodosa - it's kind of a dry floral scent, like hyacinth, which just isn't really to my taste - but it's pleasant enough. And it's such a vigorous grower.

Help Tips for new vanda orchid

I bought a ā€œPapilionanda Josephine van Brero x Vanda Spotted Sunshineā€ orchid this weekend and I’m not sure how to mount it. I’ve seen hanging baskets, but the lady who sold it to be said a moss pole could work (I live in an apartment so no trees). The stem/core is about 18ā€.

I can put it inside or outside on our balcony, which is south facing in southern Florida (plenty of direct sun throughout the day). I prefer inside cause it looks so cool but if outside is better I’ll do that!

A gorgeous little glitch

Yesterday, I was at my local Walmart when I noticed they had gotten new moth orchids. Most of them were different shades of purple, violet, and lilac, which are beautiful, but I already have plenty of orchids in those colors.

So, I was browsing through them, hoping to find something in a different color, when something unusual caught my eye. I took a closer look and noticed this little odd beauty hiding among all the purple orchids.

The moment I saw it, I knew it was coming home with me! šŸ˜‚šŸ’•
