2026-27 NHL Regular Season Broadcast Megathread

The sub can be banned by reddit admins as other subs have been if we allow illegal streams. This isn't my decision, this is because of how reddit admins have banned other subs for being hubs of illegal streaming. I don't want the same here.

With the season about to get started, lets put all your posts about legal streams, broadcast issues, panels, commentators, etc..

This includes how to get (LEGALLY) Streams for games as well as discussions of panelists, play-by-play, graphics, commercials and other game presentation.

FYI RE BLACKOUTS: BLACKOUTS Are not based on the location of the arena.

A game is blacked out on ESPN+ because you have a channel available through your local cable package, that is airing the game.

The NHL sells their games to TV networks. The networks pay big money for the game. They do not want people avoiding watching their channel to watch ESPN+ instead.

It baffles me that people still don't get this.

If the game is blacked out (on Sportsnet+ or ESPN+), it means a different network owns those rights to the game in your area.

This is literally ALWAYS the answer as to why it is blacked out. ALWAYS.

it's been this way all across the NHL for nearly 20 years, since Chicago pulled their heads out of their ass and stopped blacking out home games locally because Wirtz was a twat.

For those of you complaining that you are in Western Canada, and the game is on TSN and you are blacked out or other similar issue, its cause you are not considered in the local market to be able to see that game and need to get Sportsnet+ or ESPN+.... that's what those services are for, watching the local broadcast when you are out of market.

Discussion NMCs and NTCs offer players less leverage than most people are making out. UFA status has always been the primary source of player leverage.

There have been 4 recent high profile cases of players wanting out of their teams. Quinn Hughes, Brady Tkachuk, Connor Hellebuyck, Dylan Larkin.

Of those, two got traded relatively quickly. Two got shown the double bird by their teams.

Hughes and Tkachuk got traded, so what do they have in common? Both were almost at the end of their current contracts. They both informed their teams they wanted out when they had roughly 2 years left.

By contrast, Larkin and Hellebuyck both have serious term left on their contracts. 5 and 7 years respectively. Neither have yet been traded, and their teams are waiting for a good enough offer.

Trade protection can only block a trade, it can't force a trade. The best leverage players have to force a trade is the prospect of them walking to UFA status with no return for their teams, which for players of this calibre is a disastrous prospect for a team's asset management.

So in my opinion, the freakout about trade protection is way overblown. If you were to make it such that requesting a trade voids an NMC, players will simply never do it, and will instead simply inform their team they do not plan to sign an extension. Which is allegedly what Hughes and Tkachuk did rather than directly requesting a trade based on reports at the time.

We built a free, ad-free hockey site that covers the NHL down through junior and college, in one place

Hey r/hockey. We are passionate hockey fans, just like you, and were annoyed about having to use 8 different site to follow games in 8 different leagues so we built something that we think is pretty cool.

Omni Hockey (omnihockey.com) covers the NHL, AHL, ECHL, OHL, WHL, QMJHL, NCAA D1, USHL, six Canadian Junior A leagues, and the SHL and Liiga so far, all in one place and in one consistent format.

Why we built it: following hockey online is a mess once you go past the NHL. Every league has its own site, most hockey sites are slow and full of ads, and almost none of them let's you follow a player or prospect wherever they are. We wanted one fast, clean place where you could check last night's NHL scores, see how your team's top prospects are doing in NCAA, CHL, Europe, the AHL, and more without opening five tabs and getting barraged by ads.

What it does:

- Follow only what you care about: pick any mix of leagues and teams, and your home page shows just those, your teams first

- Follow your NHL team's prospects automatically: Select your favorite NHL teams, then click "follow prospects" and omni hockey will automatically add your prospects games to your favorites list and show which prospect(s) are playing in those games. You can also follow individual players the same way by starring a player. His games show up labeled with his name, and he's highlighted in box scores and leaderboards. When he's traded, signed or called up, the list updates on its own.

- Live scores and game pages for every league, with scoring, penalties, box scores and lineups

- Standings and stat leaderboards for every league, most of them filterable by forwards, defensemen and rookies

- Sync between your phone and computer, no account needed

We're working on an iPhone version (in beta) that will let you get notifications on all your favorite teams, followed prospects, and players. We also have some other exciting features planned for later in the year like automatically following games that are important to your team during playoff races, following top draft prospects, and many more!

We're new and small, there are no ads, no paywall and no sign-up, and it's an early version. If something's wrong or missing, there's a Feedback link on the desktop site, or comment here. We'd appreciate you sharing your feedback, feature suggestions, bugs, or if you just liked the product!

Thanks for taking a look -- I hope you enjoy the site and share with your friends!

The NHL will always be a 2nd rate league until they learn how to deal with bullshit like this. Gudas is a scumbag. Always has been, always will be. And the NHL allows it to happen.
