Historical Some good history in here...
Even if you don't use KDE, they have released a documentary on it for the 30th anniversary. Some really good history on Linux in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vyzla9mx4g
It's well worth your time to watch it.
I switched to Linux in 1998, and it's sometimes hard to remember how bad (by today's standards) what the desktop was like back then. It was all really great at the time, but thankfully some people went out on a limb with their crazy ideas and decided to build a better desktop environment.
It makes me really appreciate how far it has come, and also all the other 'crazy' Linux projects that have gone on over the years. After all, they were ALL crazy new projects at some point.

Popular Application Waytator - screenshot and screenrecord on Wayland (GTK+C)
if you find satty ugly like I do (no offense), try https://github.com/faetalize/waytator
It's basically an all encompassing screenshot tool - started out as merely an annotator, but expanded in scope recently :p
Not sure if it matters to anyone, but this app is AI-free, (I'm not anti, but I'm working on this to practice on my C)
Standout features:
- Based on GTK4, but fast - sub 70ms launch from cold, so no need for a daemon (lots of pain to get this, GTK is annoying as hell)
- Sleek design, fits in any WM, blurrrrrrr
- More than just for annotating screenshots - you can use waytator to take screenshots directly, either from the gui or from the cli (try binding to `waytator --screenshot --notify`
- Hyper configurable. Almost everything can be rebound
- OCR and text extraction (optional tessaract dependency)
- can be piped into if you prefer to use your WM's screenshot tool
- Planned, coming soon: screen/area recording, GPU accelerated video editing.

Fluff I built a Christmas Tux hangable magnet
Dear fellow Linux users and developers. I just finished 3d printing the first small batch of this item in the picture. The design is mine, I used AI for suggestions then redraw and adapted everything by hand. It is a magnet, so it can be stuck to the desktop case, to the rack ... or the refrigerator. I provided a small 2mm hole, so when holiday will come it can follow us home and be hanged on the Christmas tree. Christmas is still a bit far away, but the mail delivery isn't quick at all. I guess some of you may like it ! If you hare interested in buying one I leave here the Etsy link. There you can find more pictures. bye. https://mostlybrutalist.etsy.com/listing/4597390397/linux-tux-christmas-tree-decoration-and
