I’m currently studying for an MSc in Real Estate at the University of the Built Environment (UBE), and I’m researching the potential impact of proposed changes to Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) on West Yorkshire’s private rented sector. The proposed requirement for privately rented properties to achieve EPC Band C from 2030 could have significant implications for landlords across the region.
From the cost of making properties compliant to potential effects on rents, decisions to sell and the availability of rental housing, landlords’ perspectives matter when considering what these proposed changes could mean in practice.
My dissertation research explores the anticipated impacts on landlord behaviour, rental prices, housing supply and the risk of properties becoming uneconomical to retain because of compliance costs.
If you’re a private landlord or property professional with experience of the West Yorkshire rental market, I’d be really grateful if you could share your views by completing my questionnaire. It takes approximately 5–10 minutes and you can remain anonymous.

The research is for academic purposes, and I’m keen to capture the perspectives of people who understand the realities of the private rented sector.
Thank you for your time. Every response is a big help to my research. Please feel free to share the link with other relevant landlords or property professionals.
