Are there any working duel style mods that force naval gameplay? Something like the reference picture would be perfect.

If you didn't know the idle free period that stores for focuses and research don't tax during that store up period so you can straight up save 10 PP for normal focuses and like 3 PP per research.
And for me it seems like a decent help for PP laden countrys early game...

In 1948 on a modded non-historical RP game and wanted to share. Everyone is in the Allies except for the HRE and the US, who have their own faction. I’m playing HRE, wish me luck for WW3.
Random things to mention:
- Began as Luxembourg, now playing as Grand Empress Charlotte
- Prime Minister Lord Edward Halifax’s new ‘Senegal to Somaliland’ initiative, as well as the Imperial Federation
- North Japan, led by Douglas MacArthur, South Japan, led by Louis Mountbatten, and the Sovereign Imperial Residence, an HRE puppet led by Hirohito
- Britain being forced to create ‘special administrative zones’ by Allies to satiate a desire for settler-colonies
- Switzerland’s relatively massive colonial empire, empowered by and dependent upon their global chocolate monopoly
- North Russia and South Russia, led by provisional governments as their status as members of the Kalmar Union and the Republic of Poland-Lithuania, respectively, are pending. The Russian Empire is an HRE puppet led by Tsar Vsevolod I.
- Ukraine (Poland-Lithuania), Italy (Switzerland), and Turkestan (United Ottoman Nations) are all special autonomous zones rather than sovereign puppet nations
- East India Company keeps buying random states for the Empire
- Ongoing oil feud between the United Ottoman States and the Danubian Confederation, arbitrated by the UK
- Feud between Rio de la Plata and the Iberian State over Latin America
- The promulgation of the Monroe-Roosevelt Charter shortly before FDR’s passing, essentially enshrining the United States’ goal to conquer the world and establish a one world government (for our benefit, of course)
- Ireland has not done anything for the entire game and is the only nation whose borders have not changed
What will spark the next war ??? So many options

Title basically.
Do I use naval support? How many titles does each ships cover? How does the HA damage and consequently the bonus to bombardment apply? Trying to optimize Japan's naval invasion and I do naval invasion support with 23 heavy ships.

I have been struggling playing Sweden single player Ironman. I am fairly new to the game, only 300hrs, 2nd time doing ironman, played mostly with commands for fun. Trying to do the non aligned path, but by the time I get Norway and Denmark alligned and preparing to go on tthe offensive against Finland, I get hit by Germany in Denmark and they dog walk me all the way to Stockholm. I run into a huge manpower issue with only 24 capable divisions and another 12 to 20 of puppet divisions. My divisions have been mountaineers and cavalry mainly with some 12/1 Infantry divisions. Also its impossible to gain PP later on once the war kicks off. I am needing a template that would be good for holding and eventually pushing Germany after I can cap Finland. Everyone talks about Space Marines and offer this or that but was hoping someone could give me a picture of what a space marine division should look like. Been trying Medium 1938 SPGs with 14 armor, skirts and sloped but that doesnt "Melt" away the enemy frontline like people talk about. Sorry I am noob and thank you for the help in advance!
Rule 5 asking for a picture of a good Space Marine Template for Sweden

Found out the hard way when reloading a save for Communist China. I lost both border wars against Ningxia and Shanxi. Should this be fixed?

I get all those "4 carrier 4 capital ship 12 screen and spare capital/screen in case sunken" thing. I get those "faster ship = more evasive" stuff. I get "stack light attacks to melt screen" thing. I get "torpedos annihilate capital ship" stuff. I get "planes incinerate ships" thing. I just don't know how to build a navy in practice. Do you refit the pre-1936 ships in your storage? Do you research more advanced hulls? Do you continue the unfinished ships? How do you allocate the research slots for the giant tech tree? What ships should you build first? How do you design a good capital and carrier? How do you build the strike force fleet in time with, like, 20 dockyards, when you should continuously build destroyers to replenish the sunken destroyers? How do you train your admirals without wasting all your ships?

A little update on my Germany Ironman run after Sea Lion.
Started Barbarossa on June 27, 1941, and by late November the Soviets were pretty much done. This screenshot was taken just before they capitulated.
Around 3.2 million Soviet casualties against roughly 350k German losses. Managed to keep all my Panzer divisions intact too, which I'm pretty happy about lol.
I was honestly expecting the Soviet campaign to be a lot longer, especially after how much time I spent preparing Sea Lion.
Next problem: what the hell am I supposed to do with all this territory??

Iirc, spies can decrease resistance and the anti-partisan spy upgrade helps with this. Also, I haven't had this much fun playing as the bad guys since Starcraft.

I was playing Germany and I realised my fighters had all been wiped out by allied fighters.. the numbers were equal but they just kept destroying mine, is my design really that bad?
I lost my entire airforce.
What stats should I be focusing on when it comes to fighters? I had just been trying to get the most air attack possible

Hey everyone!
I've put together a practical reference for some of the most useful Hearts of Iron IV console commands, covering everything from basic cheats to diplomacy, technology, equipment, and map control.
The goal is to keep everything in one place without turning this into an unnecessarily complicated wall of text.
A quick disclaimer: HOI4 console commands can change between game versions and DLC releases. Some commands may also behave differently depending on your setup or mods. Treat this as a practical reference, not a guarantee that every command works identically on every version.
The console is generally available in non-Ironman single-player games.
The key used to open it depends on your keyboard layout. Common options include ~, §, and other keys around the number row.
If one key doesn't work, try the alternative keys associated with your layout.
Important: Console commands are generally unavailable in Ironman mode.
Basic syntax rules:
[amount] or [TAG] with actual values. For example:
manpower 1000000
This adds manpower rather than literally entering the placeholder [amount].
These are among the most useful commands for sandbox games and testing.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
manpower [amount] |
Adds manpower. | manpower 1000000 |
pp [amount] |
Adds political power. | pp 500 |
xp [amount] |
Adds army, navy, and air experience. | xp 500 |
cp [amount] |
Adds command power. | cp 100 |
st [amount] |
Changes stability. | st 100 |
ws [amount] |
Changes war support. | ws 100 |
nuke [amount] |
Changes your available nuclear weapons, where supported. | nuke 10 |
These are useful for testing different strategies without spending hours waiting for resources to accumulate.
The exact limits and behavior can depend on the game version and the specific command.
Want to test a build, experiment with tank divisions, or skip the usual production grind?
These commands are worth knowing.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
ic |
Toggles instant construction. | ic |
add_equipment [amount] [equipment_id] |
Adds a specified amount of equipment. | add_equipment 10000 infantry_equipment_1 |
add_latest_equipment [amount] |
Adds available up-to-date equipment variants, where supported. | add_latest_equipment 1000 |
add_equipment 10000 infantry_equipment_1
This attempts to add 10,000 units of the specified equipment.
The equipment ID must be valid. Some equipment types may require research, and naval equipment can have additional limitations.
The ic command can affect AI construction as well as your own.
If you leave it enabled while the game runs, other countries may benefit from it too.
For a more controlled experience, pause the game, activate it, use it for your intended purpose, deactivate it, and only then resume.
These commands can be useful when testing national strategies, alternative histories, or focus-tree paths.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
research [slot] |
Researches technology associated with a research slot. |
research all |
Attempts to research all technologies. |
research_on_icon_click |
Allows technology to be researched by clicking its icon, where supported. |
Focus.AutoComplete |
An older focus-related command; verify availability on your version. |
Focus.NoChecks |
An older focus-related command intended to bypass checks. Verify current behavior. |
Focus-related console commands can be particularly useful when exploring alternate historical paths or testing modded focus trees.
However, the names and behavior of older focus commands can differ between versions.
If a command fails, check the in-game console and a current command reference instead of assuming that every older command still works.
Also remember that some focus-related cheats can affect AI countries.
These commands are useful for sandbox campaigns, testing diplomatic outcomes, and creating alternate-history scenarios.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
allowdiplo |
Bypasses certain diplomatic restrictions. | allowdiplo |
annex [TAG] |
Annexes the specified country. | annex POL |
whitepeace [TAG] |
Attempts to establish white peace with the specified country. | whitepeace GER |
ai_accept |
Changes AI acceptance behavior where supported. | ai_accept |
civilwar [ideology] [TAG] |
Attempts to trigger a civil war. | civilwar communism GER |
event [event_id] [TAG] |
Triggers a specified event. | event [event_id] GER |
add_autonomy [TAG] [amount] |
Changes a country's autonomy where supported. | add_autonomy POL 100 |
set_ruling_party [ideology] |
Changes the ruling ideology where supported. | set_ruling_party communism |
Replace every placeholder with a valid value before executing the command.
allowdiplo
This command can bypass certain diplomatic restrictions, including restrictions related to declaring war.
Be careful: Some diplomatic cheats can affect AI countries as well. Pause the game before activating them, perform the intended action, disable the cheat if applicable, and then resume.
Older command lists often include winwars.
However, older references report that this command was removed in patch 1.9.1. It should not be treated as a reliable command for current versions.
These commands are particularly useful for alternate-history scenarios and testing how different countries behave.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
tag [TAG] |
Switches the country you control. | tag GER |
setowner [TAG] [state_id] |
Changes ownership of a state. | setowner GER 64 |
setcontroller [TAG] [province_id] |
Changes control of a province. | setcontroller GER 1234 |
add_core [state_id] |
Attempts to add a core to a state. Verify the current syntax. | — |
remove_core [state_id] |
Attempts to remove a core. Verify current availability. | — |
tdebug |
Displays debug information, including useful IDs and country tags. | tdebug |
fow |
Toggles the fog of war. | fow |
goto_state [state_id] |
Moves the camera to a state. | goto_state 64 |
goto_province [province_id] |
Moves the camera to a province. | goto_province 1234 |
The tdebug command is one of the most useful tools in this entire guide.
Enable it and hover over the relevant map areas to inspect the available debug information.
Common country tags include:
GERPOLENGUSASOVFRATags can differ for countries added by mods, and some scenarios may use different country setups.
State IDs and province IDs are not interchangeable. Make sure you use the correct type of ID for the command you're executing.
The following commands are useful for experimenting with armies and the map.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
teleport |
Enables a teleportation tool where supported. |
spawn |
Attempts to spawn units using the required unit and location identifiers. |
moveunit |
An older unit-movement command; verify the current syntax. |
deleteallunits |
Attempts to remove units. Use extreme caution. |
ai_invasion |
Toggles AI naval invasion behavior where supported. |
debug_nuking |
Attempts to bypass restrictions on nuclear strikes. |
theatersrebuild |
Rebuilds theaters; older references warn that orders may be lost. |
Some of these are more technical than ordinary cheat commands.
I recommend saving your game before experimenting with unit deletion, theater rebuilding, or commands that alter the map.
Not every console command is intended for cheating. Some are useful for troubleshooting, inspecting the game, or working on mods.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
help |
Lists available commands, where supported. |
help [command] |
Requests information about a particular command. |
version |
Displays the game version. |
observe |
Enters observer mode where supported. |
resign |
Leaves your current game role. |
savegame |
Attempts to save the game. |
testevent [event_id] |
Tests an event without triggering it, where supported. |
reload loc |
Reloads localization files. |
reload focus |
Reloads focus files. |
nextsong |
Changes the currently playing song where supported. |
weather |
Toggles weather behavior where supported. |
nomapicons |
Toggles map icons where supported. |
Commands related to reloading files, testing events, and internal debugging are mainly useful for mod development or troubleshooting.
Their availability may depend on the version and configuration.
Some commands frequently appear in older guides but should not be blindly copied into a current setup.
Examples include:
winwars — reported as removed in older version references.building_health — older syntax may not work on current versions.morehumans — its behavior is often described incorrectly in old guides.massconquer — the intended behavior and current availability should be verified.Focus.IgnorePrerequisities — an older focus-related command whose spelling and behavior should be checked.Decision.NoChecks — may not be available or behave as expected.debug_nogui — can make the game difficult to interact with if used incorrectly.A command appearing in a ten-year-old guide does not automatically mean it still works.
When something fails, verify the command against your current game version and installed DLC rather than repeatedly trying different spellings.
A few things that can save you time:
1. Use tdebug to find IDs.
This is especially useful for country tags and map-related commands.
2. Save before experimenting.
Territory changes, mass unit deletion, and some debugging commands can have unexpected consequences.
3. Be careful with AI-affecting cheats.
Commands such as ic and some focus or diplomacy cheats may affect AI countries too.
4. Remember that command names are not always interchangeable.
A command listed in an older guide may have been removed, renamed, restricted, or changed.
5. Mods can change everything.
A command that works in vanilla HOI4 may behave differently or be unavailable in a heavily modded game.
6. Use the in-game console as your first troubleshooting step.
Try help or help [command] where supported, and consult a current reference if the game reports an error.
On the historical path for Iceland, in March 1939 you will be presented with the Lufthansa deal, like what happened in real life. The German company Lufthansa will offer to build a large airfield in Iceland. Historically, this deal was rejected, but if you accept, you'll get a bunch of bonuses, mainly, it automatically completes a large chunk of the airforce tree for you, instantly giving you the bonuses that come with them.
However, it comes with a risk. If Denmark is attacked and you're still their subject, Germany will get the option to use their air field in Iceland to occupy you. If they do, you'll get a special event.
The German troops invading Iceland will have a standoff with Agnar Koefed-Hansen and his men, the Icelandic police. You can choose what Agnar does. He can back down which will make you a puppet of Germany, but you keep some autonomy and your government. Or you can make him open fire on the Germans. If he does, he and his men will die and the Germans will lose some men. They will also coup your government and make you a complete puppet.
Alternatively, if you reject the Lufthansa deal, the historical thing will happen, the British will invade and demand you join the Allies.
Depending on your choices, different occupation branches will unlock.
The "Bend the Knee" branch will be available if you accept the Lufthansa deal and Agnar stands down. This will be a German collaboration branch.
"Under the Eagle's Boot" will be available if you're occupied by Germany, regardless of what Agnar does. This is a democratic resistance path against Germany.
"Policy of Appeasement" is the historical branch where you choose to cooperate with the British after they invade. It's available regardless what type of government.
"The Fifth Column" is available if Britain invades and you have a right wing government, allowing you to build up fascist resistance to Britain.
And then "Stir Public Unrest" is available both if the Germans or British invade you, and if you have a left-wing government. It allows you to build up communist resistance against your occupier.

Rule 5: I'm trying a Germany world conquest. In the past 2 games I couldn't get to the UK but I was finally able to land using paratroopers. They almost took my port before I could reinforce with non-paratrooper divisoions but I got there just in time. USA hasnt joined in yet so this will be the end of the allies.

My UK puppet didn't keep his focus try while my other puppets (France, Poland, etc) kept theirs just fine.
