Hi everyone! The mod team has noticed an uptick recently in people posting photos of their faces or other identifying information.
This is a reminder that posting photos of your face is both unsafe as well as against the rules of the subreddit. Any posts with these photos will be removed.
Reddit is a website used by many people and you can never know who is looking at your photos.
In addition, please censor any identifying information in your posts. This includes names of teachers and your school when sharing schedules.
The subreddit is also not a place to connect with people from a specific high school. Naming your specific high school is also against Rule 5.
Thank you all for following the rules. Don't hesitate to reach out through ModMail if you have any questions.

I'm a sophomore and I didn't have a birthday party as a freshman bc of scheduling issues, and I'm hoping to do one this year. What do people usually do?? Is it usually more like big house parties or small get-togethers with friends? Obviously this varies a lot and people do different stuff, but what's most common?

A administrator (the lady at the front desk) downloaded malware on her computer during the summer. She had tried to download a VPN but it was fake. Her compromised gmail account sent phishing emails to other admin, and a few other admin were hacked as well. This information was accidentally leaked by the Spanish teacher, who apparently wasn’t supposed to tell us the specifics. She was supposed to frame it as a cyberattack (all other teachers framed it that way).
This happened during the course of the summer, all the way to the middle of Quarter 1. When a teacher was sent a phishing email and hacked after a week of no phishing emails, the administrators decided to take action.
First, they checked the logs of students who used VPNs, found around 200 unique students(which is almost the entire high school, I go to a private school) and decided to find out the names of the first 25. They then grouped up those 25 (including me) in the conference room, and here are the specifics of what they said:
- There have been unspecified "security compromises."
- Student VPN use "opens up our school to the open" and allows hackers from other countries to attack. "And a lot of these countries are not our allies" - Stated a bunch of times
- “VPNs are extremely dangerous"
- Sites accessed to download VPNs are "ever-changing" and dangerous.
- IT researched and found Tailscale, "Potato," and similar tools especially dangerous. (Every kid who uses a VPN uses commercial VPNs like X VPN or Proton btw)
- Admin said they spent hours tracing and the students present were "the names that popped up."
- Justification: “Although a lot of people speed, you were the ones who happened to be caught speeding, so you guys get tickets”
- All students in the room got a minor infraction
- A student had a side conversation with one of the admin, and he said “insurance denied liability”. (I don’t know what this one meant)
Then the next Monday, during the school assembly, they had a guest speaker, a CEO of an unspecified tech company, gave a long speech with fear inducing topics such as s*xtortion and kidnapping, as well as emphasizing privilege and how using VPNs is blatantly disrespecting our privileges. I was at Empire Mock Trial, so I had a friend take notes: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14lYgAndYSy4UNkvcLXqMPPnn3FcgzKNb/view?usp=drivesdk
Personal Thoughts:
I received a total of three infractions. One for the VPN, one for smiling too hard in the meeting, and another for making a joke about the VPN thing. Was it immature on my part? Yeah definently.
After my third infraction, I asked the Head of Upper School this question: “Do you 100% believe that using VPNs opens up our student wifi for foreign hackers in countries who are not our allies”, and he said yes. I attached the third minor infraction as well.
I also thought how it was really funny how the original problem was the admins not knowing how to differentiate malware from real commercial software, and then it led to the “cyberattack” being blamed on us, the students, who were all happening to be using VPNs (we use them bc a lot of websites are blocked at school). After the school email during the summer I thought we were going to get lessons about browsing the internet and downloading from official sources during community time, I didn’t expect all of this to happen.
Do any of you guys have similar experiences where the admin were just so absurdly incompetent lol.
———- Edit ————
Just to be clear, I think the infractions were, for the most part, fair. Punishing my usage of VPNs, as well as my disrespect against the admins. It was just the sequence of events from the teacher downloading malware to all of this false information that was interesting to take a look at imo.

Found a packaged condom last week that someone put under my windshield wiper while my car was parked out in the high school parking lot. That shit was disgusting, and worst of all, my dad was the one who found it 💀🙏

First quarter just ended and I am so exhausted and burnt out already. Both my parents went to amazing universities, therefore I took a highly rigorous schedule sophomore year with 4 aps and 1 honors. Adding in practice every day after school from 3-6, extra circulars, and volunteer time, I no longer have time to do anything. In my 7 classes, I have 4 c's already. I'm spending all weekend doing hw, taking notes, and studying yet still haven't got an A on a math test yet and got a 38 on a midterm. I don't know what to do, and I don't know how I'm going to get into college.
r/highschool • u/ChihiroFujisaki_Dr • 3h ago
I'm a senior right now and I feel like all my efforts are going down the drain. I did everything right, I prioritized academics (2nd in my class), did all the clubs associated with my field, did all the aps I could and even started doing college prep in junior year. I'm actually applying now to 1 college because every single other option is closed for me and even THAT ONE COLLEGE might be.
My main issue is financial aid. I can't get federal loans, I can't apply to most scholarships because of citizenship status, I can't apply for Fafsa and all that- so I'm stuck going instate. My family cannot afford more than 500-1000 out if pocket, which is near impossible outside of community College with one exception.
Than I go and realize I possibly might not be able TO DO nursing clinicals at this college. I havent called but its like... whats the point of going to the college and applying if I cant even do clinicals??? I cant even afford this college w/o a scholarship only 20 people receive so im even more pissed off.
Trust me I did questbridge too and i couldnt do the match because all the schools who offered nursing either had horrible AP policies or were too far away for me to be able to legally bind to them. Im still doing regular match but unless i nab a full ride its not an option really.
I'm just sad because everyone around me got my hopes up high and it all fell down. Like I shouldn't have believed them (they know my issues yet are still oblivious to most of it) but i feel like i put all this effort for nothing (I like studying but i sacrificed my mental and physical health for my spot and i would have liked not to do that if i knew it wouldnt work out)
I know it isn't set in stone but I still feel like a fool in this.

I’m a new sophomore and it’s been 3 months of being alone and literally having zero friends. Nobody knows who the fuck I am but there are really cool people in my classes and I know someone at my school on social media and we’ve had brief talks. He allowed me to sit at his lunch table but I chickened out so when I asked again he denied it and I just didn’t ask again after that. I don’t know how to just start because everybody is already in their groups and it’s already been three months. Am I just screwed?

I’m a junior and just as the years have gone by the more I realized I don’t really want to hang around the people I have been, I feel like i’ve just been growing apart from everybody and for the past two years i’ve had friends where i sit with a lunch but literally don’t say a word, this year my lunch period has like nobody and i don’t really like forcing myself to sit with people i slightly know just so i’m not alone at lunch. Overall i feel like i’m growing further and further apart from my friends and while I still talk to them in class and outside of class i feel like being alone at lunch just makes me feel like i’m alone but i kind of want to be alone? i like being by myself but don’t like how other people see that and i don’t know what to do, i don’t want to look back in a few years and think about how i had no one to sit next to but now i would much rather go to the library and do homework or walk around the halls listening to music. this has turned longer than i had wanted it to but i want people my age to give me a truthful answer, ive just been really out of it recently especially with only two more years of school left and im just confused

I genuinely don't know what to do anymore. I spent SO much time studying for my AP Biology test. I went through my notes, reviewed the targets, made sure I understood the concepts, and put so much time and effort into preparing. I knew the material.
But when I sat down to take the test, I started freaking out. My mind went completely blank, and I genuinely felt like I couldn't process the questions in front of me. It was like I couldn't access any of the information I had spent hours studying. I knew some of this stuff before walking into that room, but in the moment, I couldn't think clearly enough to show it.
I walked out of the test already knowing I hadn't done well. And now that I have my scores, I'm so upset because I know how much effort I put into preparing. I'm not even just disappointed about the grade, just frustrated with the amount of hours I spent studying, but none of it matters because of my panic.
I've struggled with test anxiety in other classes and in previous school years, too. I even had a therapy session where the therapist identified test anxiety as something I was experiencing.
I know I need to review what I got wrong and figure out what I didn't understand, but it's so frustrating when I feel like I knew the material going into the test. I don't want to keep putting so much effort into studying only to have my anxiety interfere with my performance.
Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with test anxiety that was so bad you couldn't think clearly during an exam? Did anything actually help you, especially when you were already prepared? I'm considering talking to my school counselor about a 504 plan, but I'm not sure where to start.
I just feel so defeated right now and frustrated with myself.

Im conflicted as to whether I should drop my chemistry class. my plan is to continue school and work my way to an RN, but chemistry class is already becoming too difficult for me. Ive researced other pathways that dont require it as a pre requisite, and i am definitely interested in those pathways. however i believe im giving up my dream of becoming a nurse too soon.
I know my grade i'snt the best right now either, and i'm trying to conince myself that if i really push myself, I will get past it.
I just am not sure whether the stress will be worth it, because if i'm stressed out 24/7, how am i goiing to be able to care for others the way I intend to do?
at the end of the day, my goal is to care for others wether it is physically or mentally.

I'm a sophomore, and I am in a situation where all the popular groups and cliques are already formed, and I am the odd one out because we have an odd number of people in my class.
Originally, I tried switching classes to be with a girl I know, but she said she ended up changing her mind and said no. The deadline for class changes has passed anyway, and the school does not accept any reasons for switching at this point.
I do have a friend in this class, but she is out and will not be back until mid-November at the earliest, and I don't have an exact date of when will she come back to school. Because of that, I am worried about upcoming group projects and how to handle them.
To add to it, there are two girls, let us call them T and V, who make the dynamic less difficult for me because they agree to be in a team with me but they don't really have the same hobbies as me and outside of class we have separate different friend group. To be clear, outside of class, I do have friends. It is only in class where I am on my own.
How do you cope with this? How do you manage group projects when you are the odd one out, and how do you survive sitting alone when everyone else is already in groups? (Good thing we are an odd number of ppl in my class. I have 2 classes with my friends either way. Im entirely on my own.)

I’m currently taking all advanced classes, and college courses too. However At this point I can’t find joy in my week. I do jrotc too for a PE credit. I have teachers that assign me the entire lecture to be done at home and she spends the entire class making us do random low grade worth assignments in class and ranting about her political opinions. With homework and the amount I get I feel so drained the weekends where I get to spend time with my family, I can’t because I need to do homework. I’m constantly working and I can barely find time to enjoy. I’m not switching out of Ap Precalc because I don’t have time to study and I’m failing the class because of it. And thanks to my zone my school district requires each student to have service hours in order to graduate. So I really don’t know if I’m being over dramatic or if it’s a real problem. I have good grades I’m a A and B student and I have a 4.3 weighted gpa.

I haven’t had anyone to talk to about this but I am taking algebra 1 as a freshman I took honors 7th grade but signed a paper to leave the honors thingy so it that messed up my accelerated math path and I deeply regret it. I feel like I am behind I understand everything don’t get me wrong I have a A+ and I talked with my councilor what I can do to move ahead and he said I can take honors next semester but I didn’t ask what math class would I take, but I think it’s just honors algebra 1 and I still feel behind if I do take it because I see my friends in algebra 2 and integrated math 2 already and makes me feel like a idiot in the future I want to do something in stem probably engineering and I feel behind I have All A’s except in ceramics class I have a C but this is mostly about math I just feel so ashamed and please tell me what I can do to advance further

I'm in grade 10 (sophomore year in US).
Like NOTHING. Not even when in elementary school. I used to be a very anxious kid and I just felt very embarrassed every time I made a mistake so I just never did anything.
Now it's too late and I feel bad and useless

Hello everyone,
I am a high schoolers and I’ve just built the MVP for a web platform dedicated to neuromuscular diseases. The core goal of the project is to provide a clean, highly accessible, and structured interface for complex medical conditions that are often incredibly overwhelming for patients and families to navigate online.
I am asking you guys because I just want to see if this project has feasibility. Some of yall have amazing insight to these type of projects and/or have attempted this.
Current State of the MVP:
• Basic Functionality: The core framework, search/filtering, and navigation are live.
• Content: It currently maps out four distinct diseases. None of content is generated by AI. I know it is generic but that is the whole purpose. Lmk if this approach is flawed.
• The Goal: It is strictly in the development/validation phase right now.
What I’m looking for:
Note: Because Reddit's automated spam filters are quite aggressive with external links on developing projects, I have pinned the direct website link to the very top of my Reddit profile for anyone who wants to take a live look. I also put it in the comments.
Thank you so much for any critiques or suggestions!

All in all I graduated High school almost 14 years ago. High school was not the best for me. I was one of the most unpopular/most hated person in that school. It all started the very second I walked into the school my freshman year. I wasn’t making friends and was being bullied. When I complained that I wasn’t making friends. Everyone told me to join clubs and it will help me make friends. Well…I did that and still no one wanted to be friends with me. I got bullied for being in the clubs that I was in. And the kids in the clubs didn’t even acknowledge me. I gave up on clubs my junior year. Every time I read an article about making new friends in high school. Every single one of them say ‘join a club to meet likeminded people’ and I always think to myself. ‘That doesn’t work because I joined clubs and I didn’t make any friends and the kids were hostile towards me. Am I the only one this has happened to? Did joining clubs help you make new friends?
