"Kalani regressed the longer she was with ALDC," "Chloe regressed during her break," "Brooke regressed once the show started" etc.
First of all...ANY of the extremely elite, nationally ranked dancers who showed up on Dance Moms—Kalani, Brynn, Sophia, Elliana etc.—were going to "regress" if they reduced their training hours at all to pursue professional work (and I consider being on a Lifetime reality TV show to be professional work). They knew that, their moms knew that, their coaches knew that. Training at an elite enough level to be winning TDA is not sustainable for any child for more than a few years. It's necessary that they eventually step down from that level of training to pursue the next step in their career or just become a more well rounded teenager.
I'm not glazing Abby or saying that leaving elite studios to come to ALDC was the right move. I'm just saying that "regression" should be the least of your concern because it's literally inevitable for anyone who is one of the best dancers in the world. Nobody expected in a million years that Brynn would go on Dance Moms and improve her technique. That wasn't the intent. She did it because she was at the top of her dance game and her mom's next goal was to expand her professional opportunities, knowing that dancers who work professionally are all going to "regress" from the technique that won them elite national titles.
Every single person on Dance Moms after the OGs was there because they were seeking professional work, not because they wanted to be a great technical dancer. There's a level of technique that's simply not required or even helpful to work professionally. Brynn and Kalani were undeniably better dancers than Maddie or Chloe. They'd beat them in any fair competition. But all of them had good enough technique to work professionally, and if Brynn and Kalani were hard at work in the studio improving their releve while Maddie and Chloe were at auditions or filming music videos, then it's Maddie and Chloe who were becoming successful professionals despite "regressing." It was intentional.
Again, I'm not trying to glaze Maddie and Chloe in particular, I'm just saying that Kalani and Brynn knew they were going to regress, because at their level, regressing in technique is basically a mandatory trade off for advancing their careers.
End rant.
