Rant Albertans on the referendum
I just thought after all this referendum sh*t, we deserve something funny. Saw this video and I couldn't stop laughing how it exactly reflects how most of our fellow Albertans think.

Home Owner/Renter stuff Dream rental in Calgary
This posting came up on marketplace, and I can't believe anyone would actually post this rental where nightmares are born. This looks like a room for kidnappings. This picture of dirty pillows on a metal frame was the only photo in the listing. Is this what the Calgary rental market has become? It even looks like it was taken with an old school camera from the exposure at the bottom. This is a horror movie in the making.

Rant Alberta chose, so what's with the separatist guys on the bridge over Crowchild?
I was passing there today and was quite confused to see them waving the Alberta flas and smiling to the drivers, as if sharing some profound gospel/selling snake oil. What is the point? Will they continue to push these narratives and this "option" down everyone's throats, although it is clearly not feasible? How much time do they have to spare on this BS? Don't they have chores such as mountains of laundry and figuring out how to feed their families, like the rest of us?

Local Sports Later start at all 4 Bow Valley ski hills thanks to permanent daylight time
Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay and Nakiska will all start their ski lifts at 9:30 a.m.
“We have to adjust as morning light is important for our mountain operations team,” said Kendra Scurfield with Sunshine Village.
“They do work each morning to ready the mountain for guests. This work needs light for them to see.”

Municipal Affairs We're starting interviews today for Calgary's next City Manager. Here's where things stand and what we're looking for
We're starting interviews today for Calgary's next City Manager, and I want to fill you in on where we're at in the process.
Whether it's fixing potholes, keeping our streets safe, improving transit, or making sure your tax dollars are spent wisely, our City Manager has a huge role in getting things done.
This is probably the biggest decision we will make this term, and we need to get this hire right. Back in June, we brought in an executive search firm. In July, we launched recruitment. Over August and September, we reviewed candidates and developed a shortlist.
And today, interviews begin, with our goal to identify our preferred candidate in November.
I want to thank Councillor Yule, our committee chair, and Councillor Wyness, our vice chair, for their leadership and hard work getting us here.
In talking with Calgarians, I think our city is looking for someone who's a strong leader and a great communicator. Someone who knows how to listen, bring people together, and work with our nearly 20,000 City employees to get things done. Someone who respects your tax dollars, takes accountability seriously, and understands that City Hall works for you.
Because we've got some incredible people working for our city. They deserve leadership to support them, give clear direction, and do our best work for Calgarians. We've made good progress, and I'm looking forward to sharing more as we get closer to making a decision.

Question What should I expect/know when pursuing a career in firefighting?
I'm 19m, working out regularly and want to become a firefighter to get away from my parents and this home, I'm getting my advanced first aid, class 5 then class 3 with air brake, cpr, volunteer hours and planning to get some references from my current nursing home job, what should I know/get to prepare for being a firefighter? and any workouts that seem to be good for the job so I can add them to my workouts.
I also have no post secondary/college degree but I do have a high school degree at least, I really, really want to help people as a firefighter but I don't want to delude myself into thinking I can get in first try, what would the likelihood be to get in at such an early age? And last thing is if I should apply to other firefighting places outside calgary, i.e. cochrane or airdrie.
Thank you so much in advance.

Question Any Athabasca University Students in Calgary Interested in Body Doubling for Studying?
Hi everyone!
I’m wondering if there are any fellow Athabasca University students here in Calgary who are currently completing their courses remotely.
I’m working toward my Bachelor of General Studies, with a focus on Psychology, and would especially love to connect with anyone pursuing the same program or taking similar courses. However, I’m open to connecting with other AU students as well!
One thing I’ve been considering is finding someone who might benefit from body doubling while studying.
For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, body doubling is essentially when two people work independently alongside each other. You don’t necessarily need to be working on the same subject or even interacting much. It’s simply having another person physically present who is also focused on their own work, which can help with motivation, accountability, and staying on task.
I’m hoping to find someone in Calgary who might be interested in meeting up occasionally at a library, coffee shop, or another quiet public space to study together.
Just to clarify, this wouldn’t be a paid position, tutoring arrangement, or necessarily an attempt to build a friendship. I’m simply looking for another student who understands the challenges of independent online learning and might also benefit from having someone nearby to help maintain focus and motivation.
The idea would be to have a mutually beneficial arrangement where we can both work toward our own academic goals without any pressure to socialize or help each other with coursework.
If you’re studying through Athabasca University and this sounds like something that could help you, please DM me!

Local Shopping/Services Calgary Grocery Deals (October 22 to 28, 2026)
Happy Wednesday!
This is a continuation of my pattern of posting what I think are decent grocery deals with the hope that this will save some people some money. As noted previously this is heavily skewed to items that I and my family eat. There are probably additional items that are good deals but I don't know it because they aren't items I use but hopefully my list is still useful to you.
A few quick reminders:
- PC Optimum points are collected at No Frills and Superstore. 1,000pts is worth $1.
- Scene+ points are collected at Safeway, Sobeys and FreshCo. 100pts is worth $1.
- The value of Save on Foods points depends on what you redeem them for. If you redeem them for a 4L jug of milk then 1,000pts is worth about $1.50. Other redemptions might make them more or less valuable.
Superstore, No Frills, FreshCo and Save on Foods are generally willing to price match identical products from (some) other major grocery stores if you show them the item in the competitor’s flyer while checking out so knowing what is on sale at stores that you don't visit can still be useful. There are some restrictions on this... FreshCo won't price match Safeway or Sobeys. Superstore (at least some locations) won't price match Coop. The No Frills on 85st SW won't price match FreshCo.
Finally, thank you to everyone that has posted positive comments. It's always nice to receive positive feedback.
