Sorry if this wrong place to post this but.

My unit 3ppcli had a wildfire incident few days ago, it has claimed 4 lives and over 30 casualties. Many whom are still fighting for their lives with over 50 percent burned.

We just had the biggest mass casualty event since Korea war, alot of my friends are 80-90% burned and might not make it, alot of them are in Royal Alexandria or U of A hospital.

Please donate blood if you are in Canada they will direct it to the right hospitals.

Thanks.

PSA One of the largest drug seizures in Calgary Police history has taken more than $8.8 million in drugs and cash out of circulation

Our officers have made one of the largest drug seizures in Calgary's history, taking more than $8.8 million in illegal drugs and cash out of circulation and laying charges against four individuals.

That includes more than 40 kilograms of cocaine, along with fentanyl, methamphetamine, and nearly 300,000 prescription pills that were being distributed through a network operating in Calgary and Edmonton.

This is a major accomplishment, and I want to make sure the officers responsible get the recognition they deserve.

Over four months, 16 Calgary Police units worked together with the RCMP, Edmonton Police, and Canada Border Services to investigate and disrupt this operation. It's a great example of what our police are accomplishing through hard work, strong partnerships, and a commitment to keeping our communities safe.

I want to congratulate Acting Chief Asif Rashid and every officer who contributed to this investigation. I know public safety is a top priority for Calgarians, and I want you to see the progress being made by the people working every day to protect our city.

We're going to keep supporting our officers, strengthening public safety, and working toward our goal of making Calgary one of the safest major cities in Canada.

To everyone involved in this investigation, thank you for your service and for the incredible work you're doing for Calgarians.

You've made our city proud, and we're behind you all the way!

Discussion School drop off was really nerve wracking this morning

School drop-off this morning was really stressful. Even with the snow, there was so much unsafe driving — folks were speeding and were rushing to try to beat yellows and even went through reds while kids were trying to cross.

With the snow and poor visibility, it was hard to see the kids, especially those dressed in dark clothing. I saw kids darting across the street outside of crosswalks, and it was just all really concerning.

With mornings going to be darker, I’m feeling even more concerned about safety around the school. It made me realize I need to get better reflective gear for my own son so he’s more visible to drivers.

I know mornings can be hectic, but the combination of unsafe driving, poor visibility, and kids crossing in unexpected places feels like an accident waiting to happen.

Can we all please slow down, stay alert, and be extra mindful around the school? Parents, please remind your kids to use crosswalks and make sure they’re as visible as possible.

It’s stressful enough getting everyone out the door in the morning without worrying about whether our kids are safe crossing the street. I really hope we can all be a little more careful before someone gets hurt.

Discussion Bad Experience with Hanscomb Interiors. Inc

Just wanted to post this for a friend. We were talking about the recent traffic accidents and it made her want to let this company (Hanscomb Intriors. Inc: Expert Calgary Drywall Repair & Poly-B Restoration) know about a driver, just to give them a warning about their driving. The driver called back and freaked out. He wouldn't admit he was wrong. I wouldn't want to hire someone that can't admit if they made a mistake. He mentioned he'd delete any google reviews, so I volunteered to post it here for her.

I was very quickly passed in a playground zone by the operator of a truck for the company Hanscomb Interiors Ltd. When I called and left a message for the company to address their vehicle operator (about not speeding or passing in a playground zone), I intended for them to handle it internally and did not leave my phone number. I received a phone call back from the very upset driver Dave, where he did NOT take any responsibility for his actions.

Instead he yelled at my voicemail accusing me of going too slow and flipping him the bird. When I called him back to talk he again accused me of being an angry person just looking to cause trouble, yet he was the one yelling at me and not letting me get a word in. First of all; I do NOT flip people the bird, I honked at him when he passed and pointed out the Playground zone sign (with my pointer finger). Second; I was doing 30Km/hr BUT even if I was not doing the speed limit, It is illegal to pass in a playground zone! If someone is honking at you in a playground zone there is a reason!

It is very plain to me that he is in fact the angry person here. I simply called to let a company know that their employee needed to be talked to about speeding and passing in a playground zone. I did not need to be verbally abused on the phone or be accused of being profane or being a trouble maker. He kept mentioning I couldn't prove anything. I do however have a witness in my vehicle that can verify my actions and attest to what happened. Also, I have the voicemails of Dave telling me off.

I would not ever hire someone that treats people like this when they are called out for doing something wrong. Or, someone who was called out for putting children at risk and isn’t mature enough to accept responsibility for his actions. I hope at the very least through this encounter that he heard that it is illegal to pass in a Playground zone!!!! No matter how fast or slow the other traffic is driving. Maybe a child will be saved.

🦇 Halloween 🦇 Costumes at school

Does your children’s school allow them to wear costumes to school for Halloween? Within reason of course. We’ve always done this with guidelines but this year they’re not allowed at all and will be doing a Black and Orange spirit day in place of it. I’m curious if other schools are also doing the same.

Seeking Advice Civil Dispute against developers

The developer next door to me changed a part of my property without my consultation. I asked them to fix it but they did not fix it to how it was prior to their construction. When I told them this and asked them to correct it to how it was before, the developer straight up told me no, and said they did all that was required. I’m contemplating looking into filing a civil dispute claim against the developer. Has anyone as any experience in similar situation to mine? Do you have any recommendations or any contact that is knowledgeable in this area? Thanks in advance.

Edit: appreciate the outreach so far. If anyone actually knows someone in the legal field that is knowledgeable in this area or have themselves embroiled in a dispute with a developer, that would be most helpful!

More info: so I didn’t want to include pics initially because I didn’t want it to be too revealing in case I pursue the legal route but it would be nice to get more input to get some unbiased opinions. Essentially I had an underground downspout in my front prior to construction. During their construction they removed my water spout and buried my spout underground. After months of chasing after them, they finally came back but instead of replacing in kind, they replaced it with a surface level downspout that extends out to my front lawn. My issue with the is that I live in duplex so I constantly leave my house from the front door to enter my backyard in order to access my garage, so this new downspout is now a tripping hazard to me, as well as to anyone who visits and is not familiar with the setup. I mentioned this to the developer and he told me that the prior setup isn’t proper so he won’t be changing anything and his responsibility is done. He suggested that I walk around it to avoid tripping

Before: the downspout is underground and comes up/out on of the circular object

Rant Alberta chose, so what's with the separatist guys on the bridge over Crowchild?

I was passing there today and was quite confused to see them waving the Alberta flags and smiling to the drivers, as if sharing some profound gospel/selling snake oil. What is the point? Will they continue to push these narratives and this "option" down everyone's throats, although it is clearly not feasible? How much time do they have to spare on this BS? Don't they have chores such as mountains of laundry and figuring out how to feed their families, like the rest of us?

Health/Medicine Giving birth at Foothills - what to expect

Hello! First time mom expecting at end of February here. We were referred by our family doctor to the 2 hospitals closest to us (South Health and Rockyview) but were rejected due to overcapacity, and they got us into Foothills instead which is about 40 minutes away from us.

Just wondering if anyone here has given birth at Foothills recently and what their experiences are like. We only know people who's given birth at Rockyview and they mentioned that it is a shared room with other moms, and visitors cannot stay the night (e.g. husband had to go home for the night while the wife stayed in the hospital for 3 days after c-section).

Our first appointment with the OBGYN isn't until 29 weeks so we'll be seeing our doctor then. Hoping to get a bit more information from others before then! TIA!

Recommendations Wood supplier that can help with woodworking plans?

I am a beginner hobby woodworker trying to make a custom shelving unit for my home. This will be my first major woodworking project. I have a vision of what I want to make, but I am really struggling to translate that vision into a plan with measurements, so I know how much wood I actually need to buy.

Does anyone have recommendations for a plywood supplier that can help me draft these plans, and ideally help make a few of the big cuts in-store so the pieces can fit in my vehicle? I am very new to woodworking, so it would be extra great if the supplier/staff could help teach me a few basic principles when drafting plans to help me draft plans on my own in the future, too.

Local Shopping/Services Actual style, in big and tall?

I guess I’m not good at search, or maybe it’s the Reddit search function. Apologies if this has been asked and answered before. I just couldn’t find anything helpful., despite trying hard to find some local knowledge.

Where are some good stores to find clothing for larger, taller guys? Looking for casual, practical clothing with some style. No need for any formal clothes, just not anything super casual like graphic tees. The guy in question is 29 yo, 6’3”, and size 4XL.

We only know about stores like George Richards and Mr. Big and Tall, but those stores have some limitations for “minor”points like price, style and quality. All suggestions welcome! Local stores preferred, but Canadian stores online are good too.

Discussion Thoughts on the community of Cedarbrea

Hey Redditors! Soon I'll be moving to Cedarbrea! I'm curious what everyone's opinions are on the area/experiences they've had? Quality of life, community feel, crime rates, etc.

For context, I'm a 30 year old single guy who enjoys the outdoors and doesn't mind keeping a chair warm at the local pub every now and then.

Eat/Drink Local Wheelchair friendly pubs in the South?

Hello, can anyone recommend any wheelchair friendly pubs in the Southeast? Particularly in the area east of Macleod Trail, south of Southcentre Mall.

The main thing that's needed is lowtop tables and preferably good sightlines for TVs to watch sports. This has been somewhat tough to find. Canadian Brewhouse in Legacy isn't bad, but they only have 2 tables that fit the bill, so if they're taken, you're SOL.

And if there's any gems in any part of the city that are great for wheelchair users, would love to know as well.

Thanks!

Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay and Nakiska will all start their ski lifts at 9:30 a.m.

“We have to adjust as morning light is important for our mountain operations team,” said Kendra Scurfield with Sunshine Village.

“They do work each morning to ready the mountain for guests. This work needs light for them to see.”
