Other Situation How I got my motel voucher step by step

Hello all, this is how I got a hotel voucher. Step by step. If you have any questions comment or pm I will try to help you

LONGTIME on and off homeless/vagabond here. Just a little bit about me, Im originally from the Midwest traveled most of the central and west united states and a few other countries years ago. Im a single male. Im in my 30s and im disabled and applying for disability

I kicked drugs and alcohol (im on subs and use medical mj but that's it) and I was just coming out of jail on probation with a huge number of years over my head with nowhere to go. So I went to treatment to give me

some stability (and as part of the plea agreement) 🄺

After rehab I rented an apartment with my families help long story short the landlord was a scammer. I lost everything I owned except my wallet and ID. So here I was on probation, addicted but sober, with nothing and starting over AGAIN... SO... I got on the phone and started calling...

I started calling churches. The first one I did told me they would talk to me that day. That same day they got me a week at a hotel. They ended up getting me one more week after that.

Those two weeks gave me enough time to keep googling and calling. Im on MAT meds for fentanyl addiction (suboxone) so I googled "Housing for people on MAT meds" and it told me about a program called the fresh start program and that they will pay 10,000$ worth of rent and give 1,500 furniture stipend.

I asked my probation officer about these programs and she told me she had never heard of them. So I called more places and more places until I realized the same place that prescribes me my medicine is in charge of this program.

It got really irritating and took me being pretty much annoying to the case workers. I kept calling and texting. Saying how badly I needed help and finally I got the number to the "right" caseworker after 5 days of trying. I explained to her I had been scammed before and that I was a felon and that Noone would rent to me.

I told her the hotel I was already at would be perfect because they have monthly rates and I dont have much besides clothes, a backpack, and my phone anyway. A couple of more days passed with me not giving up and continuing to call. Finally she agreed to meet the hotel owner with me. I made sure to always leave rooms nicer than I had found them. I kept to my own business and always never had anyone over to any room I was at and these hotel owners love low maintenance paying tenants.

It worked. We all three talked. All of a sudden the state is not only helping me recover with medicaid and my suboxone keeping me from fentanyl they've paid a year at this hotel.

This is only one of several programs in my area. Google AI is really good at finding some of these programs but you gotta call call call and call. Leave messages. Be persistent. Make sure they know exactly how much you need this.

Im sure bluer stages will have more programs to help than red states but im originally from a red state and they had some similar programs where im from. But they want to see you trying. If you get in a program and a free spot take care of it and dont have people over that are going to tarnish it and get you removed.

Happy travels and best regards fam

Almost Homeless - Looking for somewhere to stay

Hi all, I wanted to see what options were available to me.
I've just been enrolled as a full time student through clearing, and I had applied for Student Finance quite last minute. At the moment it's taking anywhere between 4-6 weeks to process applications and to get my maintenance loan. I applied on Friday 18th September, but my SFE keeps getting delayed. I originally thought it would've been processed by now, so that's why I'm in this position.
I'm sofa surfing with a friend at the moment but he would like me out by this evening. I've exhausted my current overdraft, and not able to get anything further. Since it's a Sunday, I can't contact Lancaster City council for any help due to me being a full time student, and I just moved to Lancaster 3 weeks ago. This also goes for Universal Credit. I've made an application to my university's Student Help fund but that also takes upwards of 3 weeks to process. I've also tried contacting all the emergency helplines for the homelessness targeted charities I could think of. (Shelter, Centrepoint, Crisis, you name it) I have no money, and no financial safety net. I'm 20 years old, female and don't have any factors that makes me vulnerable (not pregnant, disabled or have any mental health concerns). What can I do as I'm certain I'll be homeless tonight. Thanks so much for giving up your time to read through! NOT ASKING FOR MONEY, just advice. ;)

Chicago disability homelessness

Hi,

I'm in Chicago and disabled with no benefits yet (I have an attorney for my SSDI appeal). I am going to be homeless soon and I'm wondering if anyone has any connections, resources, anything that would apply. I have called everywhere I can personally find and would love any help or advice.

Thank you in advance. Hang in there everyone.

What can you post on here?

It seems you can’t tell your true story of why you are gonna become homeless and what’s gonna happen to you without a bot removing your post every-time. Create a page that doesn’t allow people to explain the full extent of their situation and what’s gonna happen to them. Was this page more for people to vent about eventually becoming homeless being homeless or reach out for help? I’m confused

Abusive Situation Me and my partner(17f both) have less then 50 days

My abusive mother moved back in a month ago, as my father died 3 days prior. Yesterday she made a decision.

We have until December 7th morning to be gone, 24 hours after my birthday. At this current moment we have no way of transport, no money as what we had saved had to be used for our food and other things within the house, i cannot drive but my partner has her permit, which won't get us far if we dont have a car to take the test or a legal address at least once she can take the test, she won't have one.

What are our options? What resources are there? We are mainly looking for temporary/rapid housing, that also work with job coaches i believed they are called, If there's any that allows animals that would be a plus as we have two cats, but if there's no work around then so be it. We have been in a state of crisis for 24 hours and just need any advice, I dont know how to handle this and no we can't get a job until after we are out of here. And no we cannot be separated, we need something we can go to, together.

If any additional info is needed to help please ask

Eviction My (33F) parents are evicting my gf (24F) for 1 year unpaid rent despite her new job supporting us. The court hearing is in 19 days. What should we do?

For privacy and clarity, I'll be using "Claire" and "Jill" for myself and my girlfriend respectively.

The context is as follows:

Last year, my girlfriend and I moved into a condo my parents own. They signed us onto separate leases, with mine only 1/3rd as expensive. Jill paid her first month of rent and part of her security deposit, expecting to match the rest with the job she had lined up ahead of time before we moved in. Instead, the business ghosted her after she paid for fingerprinting and left her unable to contribute anything else to rent.
While we both looked for work, I was the only one with savings and later, income substantial enough to cover food, insurance and utilities. Jill did eventually find work after a few months, but each job didn't last long.

The first job we both quit after a week due to distance and personal injuries.
The second job refused to relocate her after they closed her location down.
The third job, no joke, literally fired her and everyone else hired through a local staffing agency after a single day in favor of immigrants paid half as much.
Throughout this ordeal, Jill has applied for hundreds of jobs each week and takes commissions to help me meet expenses (she's an artist and a musician). After my hours got cut in half, I got her a stay-at-home dog-sitting job that pays $400 a month. My parents were not impressed. They made vague, indefinite threats of eviction if she couldn't find employment that fit their standards.

Both of my parents were skeptical of Jill from the start. Initially they refused to let her move in because she lived 3 states and 600+ miles away. They argued that they didn't know her well enough to trust her and even told me "you can't save everyone Claire" when I relayed Jill's abusive childhood and homelessness at 3 separate times in her life prior--soon to be 4.
I eventually convinced them to sign her onto a lease, and after she wired the money I left to pick her up. $1k and 3 days later, we and her scant worldly possessions made it home.

Jill and I are both trans women. I mention this not only because it was the reason I brought her here with me (to be safe), but also because I strongly believe it has played a role in my parent’s neglect and actions toward us--especially my mom. My mother (who, despite denying it, once said "I'm sorry Claire, but I'll always see you as my son,") hasn't attempted to gender me correctly even once since I came out to her 11 years ago. She actively discouraged getting on HRT and still questions my identity.

After meeting Jill, mom continuously made passive-aggressive judgements and back-handed comments to her face. Still, she was, at least on the surface, a welcome part of the family and invited to gatherings and holidays for a time. This stopped the month before Christmas, with my mother forbidding me from bringing her to their house again. Behind the scenes, she hated Jill. My mother would use any excuse to get me alone so she could gaslight me, trying to get me to break up with my girlfriend.

With mom, it wasn't just about the rent. She judged them for their appearance, from Jill's weight and personal grooming to her accent. Her personality wasn’t good enough, with her being too "introverted," ā€œshowing autistic behaviorsā€ and ā€œconstantly being on her tablet, even at the table,ā€ despite using it exclusively for music and art commissions as well as job applications. She constantly questions her identity and frequently cites Jill's beard as evidence. What really broke my heart though was her confiding in me that she believed Jill was "lying to me," that "she isn’t really trans and is just using you," adding "she said she's 'boymoding,' but I think she made that up."

For added context, "Boymoding" is the practice of a trans woman presenting as a man. Often it's because they feel they don't pass yet, fearing discrimination and even for their safety if they try to present themselves as a woman prematurely.

Jill hasn't been on hormones yet, and it shows. She also comes from a very bigoted and ignorant part of the country, so I feel she's justified in boymoding--especially when it saves us money on shaving supplies. I think she partially does it to help me pass, acting as MY beard in a way. Even after explaining this to my mother, she clung to the idea that boymoding wasn't real and that Jill was a "fake" (something that's disgusting on so, so many levels), likely using it to fuel further judgement. I stopped talking to them and going to their house shortly after.

I don’t doubt all of this is my mother’s hate and resentment of me by proxy. My subservient father just plays the yes-man role from time to time, agreeing with everything she says even though he of all people is the one I feel actually cares, just a little bit. I lost my job around the time Jill got hers, and despite our dog-walking gig, won’t be able to keep the lights on without her. Jill completely paid my utility bills for both August and September, a fact they know but disregard. I still haven’t given them rent since moving in, but my mother has promised regardless to pay for my utilities and other bills while I look for work after Jill’s eviction. "You're our child! Of course we'd support you." Right. They're throwing her under the bus knowing full well this will leave her homeless and probably cost Jill her job. They've even floated the idea of filing a restraining order, banning her from being on or near the property. I wouldn't put it past them at this point.

Some things I didn’t mention: Jill is extremely nearsighted and has a dental abscess that causes her constant fevers, migraines, and dizzy spells. It took a full YEAR to process her application, but she’s on state health insurance now and will even be getting glasses soon. They didn't and still don't care about these health issues.

A few days ago, we went over to give them a check for rent thanks to Jill’s new job. They refused it, saying she needs it more and doubled-down on the eviction, claiming their supposed ā€œforgivenessā€ of her $10k debt was a gift. They cited their ā€œinvestmentā€ and how they had to look out for themselves. Maybe for tax reasons? Whatever. I got all of this and more on a recording (Indiana is a single-party recording state) and plan to use it in the court hearing for her eviction. I don’t know what legal recourse we have other than hiring a lawyer we can’t afford. What else can I do to ensure my girlfriend is safe? She witnessed a man get stabbed for not being "faithful" enough while staying at a church shelter in the south, so she's terrified of living at the few shelters near us that are church-sponsored and operated.
I won’t let her go back to being homeless again, but all I've come up with is letting her sleep in my car. The hope would be to hide her there, in my garage and away from my parents until we can find her an apartment, IF we can find her an apartment. I don't know what else to do.

TL;DR: Even though she has a job now that can more than pay for her rent, my gf is being evicted, maybe even banned from our home by my ignorant parents who only see her as an evil leech I supported for over a year. Her being trans could be a factor, but I doubt I can prove it. They don't believe the job market has changed at all or how she's been searching for work, deciding that giving me vague warnings of eviction until the last moment would leave us plenty of time to find her somewhere else to live. In a renting market priced out of our reach, I fear for her safety and would appreciate any guidance you have to offer.

Seeking Advice Only Update

I wanted to post an update to my original post here

https://www.reddit.com/r/almosthomeless/s/FTrWv4UmZe

To my benefit, another tennant who stopped paying rent drug out their eviction process as much as they could, which resulted in the contractor missing their start date to begin the renovations. I feel bad for the landlord but it really helps me out. No the renovations won't start until spring so my rent isn't going up until after they are done.

My lease is expired, which only means that it continues as month to month until a new lease is signed, and there are no issues at all between me and the landlord.

I've done a lot of overtime, got a new service dog which is really helping, The dealership I bought my car from says that once I get the car halfway paid off, I can trade in for a different vehicle. This week it'll be halfway paid off.

The plan is to buy the truck they have on the lot and build a camper on the back. It's a 2015 Chevy 1500 extended cab. I plan to remove the bed entirely, then build a 7ft wide, 8ft long and 5ft high camper box on the back. The truck payments will be higher then my car, but that won't matter since I won't have to pay rent.

Rent is 700/mo

Current car is 550/mo

Truck will be 700/mo

So I'd be saving 550 a month.

Even better new is that my wage garnishment is almost paid off, that'll be an extra 200/mo

So overall things are looking great for the future.

Where I'd like some advice is the truck camper itself.

I think I have a solid plan for the truck camper, but it's always good to get a second opinion. The box will be a Foamie build, 3in foamboard covered with fiberglass, and an internal frame to support the weight of the solar panels.

Power will be roughly 800 to 1200W of solar power, 400ah of lithium batteries.

5kw Diesel heater for the winter

5000btu RV window AC unit for the summer

Two 5 gal water jugs

Gym membership for showers.

Bathroom I will either go at the gym or at work.

Bucket and trash bag for emergency bathroom.

Fold down twin bed against the cab for maximizing space during the daytime.

40" TV mounted on the wall for entertainment, hooked up to my laptop.

Temporary Shelter

Thumbnail

Hello po! I think my partner psychologically abuses me, and we have a financial crisis due to his gambling addiction. The gambling stopped, but since he exhausted all of my means (savings, loan in my name, emergency fund, and basically us living paycheck to paycheck for the foreseeable 3 years pa), I was drained emotionally…

We fought last night, and I thought I was having panic attacks because he made me feel that everything is in my head. So, to cut the story short, I wanted to break free. My parents live in the province, his family is not an option, and I have a daughter to take care of. Aside from Airbnb and motels (I have a limited budget to spare), where can I stay? I tried searching for temporary shelters for abused women, but I don’t think I qualify kasi parang this is due to my poor choices, and hindi naman ako physically or sexually abused. I just want to have a place for a week where I can work (WFH ako) but, at the same time, take my time to process or think about my next steps.

Please don’t tell me that I can go back to my parents’ home kasi we have a complex relationship, I don’t want to feel like a burden, and I don’t want to give them entitlement to berate my choices. Also, I am leaving because my partner has this habit na iniiwan kami whenever we have big problems. So please, if you know someone who rents their space for a fraction of the price, or an option where I can seek temporary shelter… thank you.

PS: I am living in Metro Manila

Seeking Advice Only I worked so hard to get out of a bad situation, only to end up in an even worse one. I’m exhausted and running out of options.

About a month ago, I moved to Philly from central Pennsylvania hoping to get a fresh start. I was coming out of a pretty rough living situation and wanted to finally establish some independence and stability for myself. I had a job opportunity lined up before moving, an apartment secured, and genuinely thought I was making a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, the job fell through right around the time I was supposed to start because the company shut down the location. Suddenly, I found myself in a new city, with rent and bills to pay, and no steady source of income.

Since then, I’ve been doing practically everything I can to stay afloat. I’ve signed up with multiple staffing agencies, applied to countless jobs, and taken temporary assignments through gig work apps. I’ve even been commuting close to two hours each way on public transportation for warehouse shifts paying $15 an hour because I simply cannot afford to turn down work.

Despite all that, I’m falling further behind financially.

To make matters worse, the apartment I moved into has a significant German cockroach infestation. I’ve reported it to management and had an exterminator come out, but the problem persists. I’ve found them in my kitchen cabinets, drawers, and even my bed. It’s gotten to the point where I barely feel comfortable preparing food in my own kitchen, which has only made my financial situation worse.

I’ve also been trying to get assistance through various local programs and organizations. I’ve made numerous phone calls, visited offices in person, explained my circumstances repeatedly, and tried following whatever steps I’ve been given. Unfortunately, I’ve mostly been given the runaround.

Despite all the time and effort I’ve put into seeking assistance, I’m essentially still at square one with no meaningful progress.

I’m now behind on rent, struggling to afford groceries, and genuinely worried about losing the apartment I worked so hard to get.

The emotional toll has been significant, too. I don’t have much of a support system to fall back on. My family isn’t in a position to provide the kind of emotional support or guidance I need right now, and I don’t want to burden them with more problems. I won’t get into the personal details, but navigating all of this largely on my own has been incredibly isolating.

I’m 28 years old, and I have several years of experience in warehousing, logistics, inventory management, forklift operation, and warehouse supervision. I’m also experienced with SAP, warehouse management systems, Excel, and general administrative tasks.

I’m open to warehouse work, office positions, hospitality, or really anything that can provide a steady paycheck. I don’t currently have a car, so accessibility by SEPTA is important.

I’m not posting this to ask anyone for money. I’m just hoping somebody might have some advice, know of employers hiring immediately, or be able to point me toward resources I haven’t discovered yet.

I really do want to make things work here in Philadelphia. I don’t have a car at the moment and it’s one of the few places I can get around without one.

But at this point, I’m facing a genuine financial emergency. I’m struggling to afford basic necessities, I’m behind on rent, and I’m running out of options. I’ve been doing everything I can think of to improve my circumstances, but so far, nothing has been enough to get me back on my feet.

If anyone has been through something similar, knows of any immediate employment opportunities, or has suggestions for resources that might actually be able to help, I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Seeking Advice Only broke student considering onlyfans to eat

hey there. hoping i could get some advice.

im a college student and currently im struggling a lot with money, to the point where im skipping meals. thankfully college is free here, and i even get around $50 a month from my school because im broke and applied for student benefits, but it's not enough.

last summer i tried to apply to retail or cleaning jobs and got absolutely no replies. i must've applied to over 100 jobs but couldn't find anything part time. i even tried with apps that let you do freelance jobs but they wouldn't take me either because apparently there's just that many people unemployed right now. my country is going through a bit of an unemployment crisis, as i imagine a lot of the world is, so it's not exactly realistic to find a job this way, but im open to advice to try again. the point of this post is that im open to anything.

to make some money last year i started flipping computers on facebook marketplace because i have the knowledge to do basically everything with a computer that does not require soldering, so i would buy a cheap one nobody wanted and upgrade it to make it perfectly usable. last year i managed to sell half a dozen, but this year ive already lowered my prices and nobody is buying them. i don't even know if i should lower them even more to at least make $20 per sale (used to make $40).

i already looked up what the absolute cheapest diet in the world is and it's what ive been eating, buying from the street market where im sure everyone evades taxes, but i still have to skip meals. ive also started making my own bread because it's cheaper.

i don't buy anything extra. i don't buy coffee, hotdogs, candy, cookies, milk, soda,,, literally anything i don't need. otherwise I'd cut that and actually have lunch.

and im getting kicked out of the house so i'll have to somehow make money to pay my own bills. ive calculated that i'd need around $200 monthly just to survive. right now im making around $60 if i manage to sell anything.

i don't know what to do. i don't have a bike for door dash but im thinking of buying the cheapest piece of trash or even just walking, because if i could make even $10 in six hours of walking i'd still do it.

i also don't have money to pay for my meds and this is like actually killing me psychologically.

im actually seriously considering starting an onlyfans. i think ive got some curves and people say the median income on it is "just" $50, but getting an extra $50 per month would be incredible. i think i have the skills to figure out how to promote it, but it might take time. i have no social media presence.

im begging for advice because i don't know what to do. i don't have friends or family to resort to.
