I'm a freshman and somebody just told me about the Porter Run. Apparently since it's raining next week people are going to run around campus naked. Is it real??? And not just a way to trick freshies??? And if so how do I avoid it cuz I am NOT trying to see random dudes' hogs bro💔

I put together a small guide to help navigate the props in this years midterm election. THIS IS MY OWN OPINIONS AND SUMMARIES, I encourage y'all to do your own research too. But with how important this one is, I thought I'd lend a helping hand to make it a little less confusing.

i've been trying to access my tax form from the myucsc portal for ages but it keeps sending me to this blank white page that doesn't do anything or have any information. i've updated my browser, changed the wifi, allowed for pop-ups etc but nothing appears. has anyone had a similar issue? or does anyone have any tips?

I am going to have a midterm with this professor soon. From what I have heard, people are suggesting that I review the textbook and go through the quizzes and homework. However, from what I have seen, a lot of the material from the textbook is not present in the slides he gives, and a lot of those slides are not covered in the lectures he gives. Because of this, I am confused about what to really cover. Also what sources I should use to practice other than just the smart book since for the homework you can't really redo them its kind of hard to practice with them. Are there any practice exams or anything anyone can share from even other teachers to see how or what type of question might appear i feel like i am going in blind not exactly sure what to expect on the test and its kind of stressing me out. Much appreciate any help.

Im applying to master’s programs this cycle, with some of my earliest deadlines around December 1, and I’m having trouble getting responses from professors about recommendation letters.

I initially emailed several professors I’ve taken classes with and who I thought could speak positively about my work. I have also sent follow-up emails, but most of them still have not responded. I understand that this is a busy point in the quarter, so I don’t want to keep emailing them to the point where it becomes annoying.

So, I wanted to ask if it’s normal for professors not to respond to recommendation requests through email as it has been 2 weeks? Another thing I could try is going to their office hours, but I can’t find the times since I’m no longer in their classes. If anyone knows how to find those, it would be very helpful.

Edit: Thank you for everyone's advice, ill probably be able to get all the recs by the end of the month now.

Hi there,

Couldn’t find much information on request to return information. But for anyone in the future, I submitted on the deadline Sept 30. and heard back this morning Oct 14th, really quick turnaround and my advisors were able to keep me advised on when they approved them.

Excited to be back in the winter finally :)

The Santa Cruz Sentinel just published a nice review of Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, the play I'm currently acting in:

We have two more weekends to go at the Veterans' Memorial Building (downtown, next to the Post Office). More information and tickets are available at https://three-trials.live

P.S. My personal views on same-sex relationships do not in any way coincide with those of my characters (the Marquess of Queensberry and Charles Gill).  This just continues my streak of being cast as the "bad Dad".

Please help our family. Raise awareness, share this story. Heck, even get the news involved! I was told the incident way featured on the CBS NEWS on channel 46, but they haven’t reached out to us for comment and I can’t find the story.

Has anyone received their degree from graduating during summer session 1? I haven’t gotten any emails but I’ve passed everything according to my ucsc portal.

I left my sweatshirt in PS 140 but I went in like an hour later and it wasn’t there. Is there a lost and found? I really love that sweatshirt

CSE 101M might genuinely be the easiest class I've ever taken. I still don't understand why it's considered an upper-division CS course when it should honestly be a GE. The homework and exercises are ridiculously easy, and you barely have to study to get 100s on the tests. I'm convinced you could walk into an exam without preparing and still get a perfect score. I've genuinely never seen a class this free. Easiest A of my life. They should honestly make this class harder because it's almost insulting how little effort it takes.

So since I moved in last month, I have had my Xbox Series X registered within the ResWifi-Devices network. I have the correct wireless MAC Address registered and have been typing the password in correctly yet I still can't connect for whatever reason. I have been using the guest wifi since which has worked perfectly until yesterday. Whenever I connect, it says that "It cant connect to the DHCP server". Has anybody else had this exact same issue? If so, how do I fix it? I've contacted IT and so far they haven't been that much of a help.

Hi guys,

Im a 4th year agpm and art student who looking for someone who can help me to learn and speak Swedish. Im planning a trip to see my dearest friends who lives in Malmö, Sweden 🇸🇪 and I wanted to surprise them by speaking and understanding them while also navigating their country (I'm also making a game based on one of their folklore and learning more of the history too) - I don't have to much too offer and I'm pretty sure this a lot to ask but even small advice or tips will and always be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help, see you around.

Hi everyone! I'm looking for people to join me for the Ideathon(we get money if we win!). My idea is an AI powered stuffed toy for children. It can teach children, play interactive games with them, provide emotional support when they're having a hard time (like dealing with bullying), and encourage them to participate in activities with their families. I'd also like the toy to have physical movements and interact with children in a more engaging way. One of my main goals is to prioritize child safety, since current AI toys can sometimes generate inappropriate or harmful responses.

I'm a CS student and plan to focus on the AI and software side. I'm looking for someone interested in hardware, embedded systems, or robotics who would like to help build the physical toy. If you're interested, feel free to DM me! I'd love to discuss the idea and see what we can build together.

I don’t have plans for Halloween this year. People I know already have their own plans and I honestly don’t want to sit and rot in my room for the night. Anyone know of any cool parties or events I’d be able to go to? Mostly trying to look for events to meet new people and stuff. I already know about the stuff in downtown tried it last year, but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. Open to any suggestions, thanks!

Hello! Has anyone here successfully received a retroactive withdrawal? My advisor feels I have a valid case, and I’m currently waiting for the committee to review it. I’ve heard that retroactive withdrawals can be notoriously difficult to get approved, so I’m curious how true that is based on others’ experiences. I’d love to hear both success stories and denials, as well as any insight into what the process was like for you. Thank you so much!
