DISCLAIMER: i am not an insurance or financial aid representative/professional, the info i provide is all base on the research i did on the topic as well as my, and other students experiences ive been seeing on reddit. this is not an advertisement, just trying to share information for struggling students.
i know there’s been a lot of discussion about the denial of waivers the past couple days and i did a little further research that i hope can provide at least one person with the information they need.
IF YOUR UC SHIP WAIVER WAS DENIED HERE ARE POSSIBLE COURSES OF ACTION
- if you ARE willing to stay on ship
: call the financial aid office on campus and speak with them about the situation, see if there’s anyway to re-evaluate the cost of attending since you now have additional charges ($3k+ for one year) and see if there’s a way for you to get back on health insurance assistance (check for appeal options or see if you qualify for special circumstances)
2. if you ARE NOT willing to stay on ship: there should be an ‘appeal of waiver denial’ in which you can fight the decision (MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 15 DAYS OF DENIAL and can take up to 10 days to be reviewed), i think you’d need to get into contact with Student Health and Counseling Services to file it officially with additional documentation
NOTE: after having the waiver denied you cannot submit another waiver (hence the appeal of the denial), and THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL BE ACCEPTED -> plus if i were to do option 2 and it is rejected again i would at least try to push for option one to lessen the financial burden.
here’s a link to the website about it, and where you can find the pdf (first blue link after the OTHER section)

these won’t fix the problem alone but is just the next possible steps…
if anything is wrong or outdated please let me know! i want this information to be as helpful as possible.
best of luck to you all.
