Note: I'm trying to keep this list contained within an hour drive of Clinton Square. For the websites, I tried to link directly to calendars where I could. Also, there are quite a few festivals and major events that may not be listed here. I'll be updating as the weeks go on (lots of festivals aren't fully scheduled out until a few months in advance). Feel free to drop suggestions, additions, omissions and updates into the comments.

Rant Young People get out and Vote!

To start on a positive note - Good on the Seniors of CNY for getting out there and voting. My polling location had a constant stream of people doing their civic duty today on the opening day of early voting.

However, it was a tad depressing as a close to 30 year old being the youngest person in the building by AT LEAST a decade and probably close to 20-25 years from the average age in the building. 80% of the people I saw while I was there were 55+. The remainder were middle aged folk 35-55. I wasn't there for long (thank you for your work poll workers) but shit I felt I stuck out like a sore thumb as a young person out there voting.

IT IS OUR CIVIC DUTY TO HOLD OUR GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBLE WITH OUR VOTE!

So young people of CNY PLEASE go out and vote! I don't care who you vote for. JUST VOTE! Be involved in our democracy and flex your civic muscle!

Event & Promotion Long Branch Spooky Stroll

Pretty well done event despite the $25 entry fee…..except this years trick or treating. What the actual f. Here’s both my kids bags, 5 “treat stations” set up and they mark the bag the make sure you don’t come back for lame seconds. $5 per bag to trick or treat. What an absolute rip off joke. Do yourself a favor and skip this portion of the event.

Discussion Be an informed voter this election

I have typically over prepared and over researched for every decision in my life, so now I am sharing the information I have gathered with you! While you can absolutely go vote and wing it, if you have the opportunity, research the candidates and Propositions and make informed choices.

Here is a good place to start:

https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/

Click where it says Click Here and fill out your info. That wil bring you to your Voter Details Screen. Along with Polling Place Information and Voter Information, it will also list your Voter District Information, which includes your

 Election District

 County Legislative District

 Senate District

 Assembly District

 Congressional District

 Town

 Ward

On my page I have a sample ballot which is basically what I will receive when I go vote. I can see what I'm eligible to vote for, everyone who is running, and the Propositions, and then can go research anything I want to learn more about.

~~

(I might make this next part a separate post, because while it was talked about a lot maybe 6 weeks ago, this is not being addressed enough currently imo)

Proposition 1 and 2

From a September 18 FB post by the Onondaga County Board of Elections:

Proposition 1 and Proposition 2 on this year's ballot concerns the term limits for County Executive and County Comptroller. Because of the unique nature of these propositions we are offering the following guide.

You can choose to support either propositions if you have a preference of 3 four-year terms or 4 four-year terms. You can vote yes on one and no on the other.

You can vote yes on both propositions. If both reach a majority than per the settlement agreement the one with the higher vote count will be enacted into law and written into the county charter.

You can vote no on both propositions. If neither gets a majority of votes than the status quo will be maintained and no term limits will be enacted.

I can't tell you how to vote, but what has been suggested has been:

YES to THREE 4-year terms; 12-year max

NO to FOUR 4-year terms; 16-year max

However there is a compelling argument as well for voting yes on both propositions. It is super confusing, and I feel that is on purpose. The part that says "If neither gets a majority of votes than the status quo will be maintained and no term limits will be enacted." is important. Clearly this is something I personally need to research more, and I am interested in what you all think.

Recommendation Wanted Taxidermied Deer on Display?

Seemingly random question here—is there a place in town where once can see some taxidermied deer, like a natural history exhibition or a bar decorated with hunting trophies? I’m working on a painting, and I would like to sketch a deer in person. The ones who live behind my house are terrible models. Won’t stand still long enough.

Recommendation Wanted Where to cut acrylic sheets?

I need a very small piece of acrylic cut for an aquarium lid. I used to be able to get this done at both lowes and home depot, but both have discontinued the service. I don’t want to spend $110 on a giant sheet and whatever the tools would cost as well. Does anyone else do this locally?

Food & Drink New nice spots to have dinner?

Grew up in the 315, coming back to town next month to take an elderly relative out for birthday dinner. Beyond not being big on South Asian / SE Asian food, she’s pretty open in terms of cuisine. Looking for a nicer spot that I may not be aware of, anywhere between the FM area and downtown. We used to go to A Mano sometimes which she enjoyed, she also used to love Otro Cinco (RIP). We went to Eden around when it opened and didn’t love it.

Appreciate it.

Recommendation Wanted Dog trainer recommendations

Hi! I recently welcomed an 8-week-old puppy into my home, and I’m currently looking for a reputable dog trainer. I was considering Sit Means Sit, but a friend mentioned that their training methods involve electronic collars, which is something I’d prefer to avoid, especially at such a young age. Im really hoping to find a trainer who uses positive reinforcement. Does anyone have recommendations for trainers who take this approach?

Recommendation Wanted Photographer Recommendations

Hello! My boyfriend and I wanted to take JCPenny style (yk the ones with the backgrounds and awkward poses) photos for our 6th anniversary. We want to do it in our Halloween costumes but are envisioning the classic backdrop style. This isn’t a must have though, we’re just trying to find someone/a place that would be willing. A lot of photographers in the area are really booked out or focused on weddings. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Recommendation Wanted Co-working space or work-friendly cafe/library/public space

Moved to Camillus this summer and have been working full-time remote at home. Starting to get a little cabin fever which I assume will only get worse as the winter weather sets in.

Can anyone recommend a place to hang for a couple hours a couple of times a week?

I’m mostly engaged in solo work on a laptop, so WiFi (free or paid if necessary) is a must. When engaged in meetings I wear headphones but need to be able to speak at normal volume, not whisper into a mic.
