Fun A few weeks ago someone asked for help practicing for a road test. Mission Accomplished.

Some of you may remember a post from a young professional looking for help practicing for their road test with only a few weeks left before the exam.

I thought about it. I have taught a bunch of friends, family and neighbors how to drive and how to drive stick shift. I thought about the circumstances under which someone might need help and not have a support network to lean on for something so important. They are from another city, with no car, and needed a license to travel for work and to ultimately buy their own car. I understood the risk of meeting a complete stranger and the fear we have that people are not always operating in good faith - we both believed the other was genuine.

I told them to message me. They did. I told them that if they could get to the site I use to teach people (a large empty plaza), I would meet them and do a lesson and see how it went. We chose to trust each other. We ended up doing 3 lessons of 90minutes each, I let them tell me what price they thought was fair and they did. I accepted.

I wanted to follow up and say that after 3 lessons, they texted me yesterday excited that they passed their drivers test! We are both excited.

In what sometimes feels like a crumbling, devolving world where everyday people struggle with everyday tasks, it felt very good to be able to just be kind and helpful. So if you see someone asking for help, and you can help, take a moment to consider how hard it is to ask for help and sometimes how easy it is to give it.

Hopefully we have one more careful driver who has now mastered the parallel park and k-turn lol.

Discussion Genuinely unbelievable

If you drive a shitty stickered up black Ford Taurus and honked at a silver van on Clinton for stopping for a deer, and then honked again when I made a confused hand signal at you, please turn in your fucking license and take the bus for the rest of your life you brainless fucking maggot. What possessed you to get upset that I had to brake for a deer? Was it that you were looking at your phone and had to brake extra hard to not hit me? Or maybe it's just your ego poisoning your mind into thinking you have anywhere fucking important to be.

Every day I'm reminded that people are really walking among us with subhuman levels of intelligence

Discussion Monroe Ave Check Cashing Scam Attempts

I've had three early to mid 20s males try the check cashing scam on me while I was walking on Monroe the past month, particularly between Parlays Inn and Dunkin as well as closer to McDonalds and 7 Eleven

One in a black BMW (RIGHT by Parlays), one in a grey Jeep Cherokee one from a dude in a pinkish red hoodie on foot who was in lot of mini mart across from mcdonalds.

They all use the same script

"Excuse me! I don't mean to bother you" (yes, yes you do)

"Do you where ESL credit union is? Oh, do you bank with them?"

- side note, they can stumble and mess up the script. One dude asked about Key Bank and ESL interchangably before catching himself and reverting to just saying ESL. Lol

Then even if you say no, they'll usually go "well I have this check I need to cash and it won't let me...."

From there, they will try convincing you to deposit a (bad) check on your phone for them, hope your bank fronts the money as is the case with many pending e deposits, and have you send them the money on Venmo or cash app while promising you a cut

WHEN that check bounces, you would be on the hook for the money and very likely would lose your bank account. Meanwhile the scammers would, of course, keep the money

I have always declined to "help" and walked away. It's so common now, more than in the years I have lived downtown. Just wanted to pass along so others can watch out for it. 3 times in the past few weeks...never been this bad

Edit: typo

Discussion Looking for Bulgarians in ROC

• Upvotes

Hello all,

I’m not particularly new to the area and neither is my wife, but she’s originally from Bulgaria and is looking for a local connection for dinner and mezze. Our nearest Bulgarian friends are in Boston and Delaware.

We’re politically liberal and both have postgrad degrees. Looking for dinner and hopefully get to know you type conversation.

Cheers!

Help Big lights over Penfield area?

Family sent me this video asking if I had any idea what it was? I know growing up i’ve seen lights like this from old car dealerships or stadiums/events, but unsure what’s causing these ones tonight. Any insight?

Help Best bars for hookups with mature women?

Apologies if this isn’t a post suitable for the sub but I don’t have anywhere else to ask. I’m (fairly) new to the area and haven’t really been out since moving here. I’m a younger guy (25) but I’m attracted to and usually only date/hook up with older women (30-40’s+). Are there any bars around here where a single, older crowd is the majority?

Any success stories from any other younger guys in my shoes?

EDIT: Thank you all for the responses! I didn’t expect to get this many recommendations! Will try out a few of the mentioned spots next weekend and share my results

Help Winston: Adoptable Dog In Need Of Home by Nov 15th

Post image
• Upvotes

Central New York friends: are you in need of the love of the best and most cute dog ever? Please consider adopting Winston. He is a five year old collie/hound mix who sadly came from abusive circumstances, but now is thriving and ready for a fur-ever home!

He needs a calm home with patient dog parents to help him thrive (calm dogs and kids 12 and older are okay, cats are not). He is at foster now but needs to be adopted by November 15th.

If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, details are here: http://cayugadogrescue.org/wp/2026/07/winston-2/

Food Good butcher for chicken?

Thinking about switching from buying supermarket chicken to buying bulk from a butcher for higher quality meat. I usually buy ~6 lbs at a time of chicken breast at a time and filet it myself, but I often end up losing a good bit of meat doing this cutting off all the fat.

Anyone know of a good butcher or farm for chicken that has comparable price to what you’d find in the store, and potentially good pre-cuts available? Though I don’t mind paying a slightly more for higher quality beef..

Fun new friends.. again :)

I am 26F and I’m looking to make some meaningful connections and friends. I’ve tried bumble bff and reddit seems like the more effective option.

It’s hard to make friends as an adult. My birthday is coming up and I don’t really have a group of friends to celebrate with.

I’d love to make a gc of people in the area who may also want to be friends and do things together.

feel free to message me :)

Help DMV requiring new photo despite my photo only being 8 years old

• Upvotes

Not sure if anyone else has dealt with this but I am extremely frustrated. I have had my license photo for only 8 years and based on all the info I can find, the date where the photo is no longer eligible is after 16 years. What gives?

I have my vision test done, I have no record, seriously what gives?

When I try to renew online it says "The photo on your record is outdated. You must visit a DMV office to take a new photo."

Do I seriously have to go to the DMV? I'd like to avoid that if possible, for obvious reasons.

Help Places to sell used books??

Hey yall, I don’t post here or even comment really cause I prefer to stay private, but I need help and Google won’t give me any clear answers.

I’ve got a ton of books I collected over the years (mainly from when I worked in a local comic shop, lots of graphic novels) but I’m hoping to move out within a year or two and being unemployed I’m trying to save money any way I can.

If anyone knows of places that buy up used books, are ok with adult themes in some of them, and are very LGBTQ+ friendly, I’d love some recommendations!

I’ve considered listing them on FB Marketplace or EBay, but there’s so many (about 3 large boxes worth) it’d be a big hassle, but I fear donating them to somewhere that sees cartoon cover-art and won’t look at the contents for adult themes (I’ve got a few BL mangas mixed in, plus some spicy western comics), and gods forbid I give them to someone that will just throw them away because a lot of them have “gay stuff” in them.

Also feel free to DM me if you’re interested in taking a look, there’s queer stuff, horror stuff, silly stuff, cute stuff, spicy stuff, educational stuff, stuff for kids and adults alike, etc and lots of it, and I’d love if they all went to good homes and helped me get where I wanna be💕

Discussion Sonnenberg Mansion Mystery

Hi all—
I’m going to the mansion mystery this weekend and I can’t find much information about it.

Two main questions—
1. How do guests dress for this? Do I wear a sweater and jeans? Or a dress? Heels? (Sorry it sounds dumb lol)

  1. How early to arrive? We have about a 45 min drive so I want to plan accordingly and not get a bad spot just because we didn’t know, haha.

And any other info while I’m here would be great 😂
