Erasmus experience

Hello everyone. I keep reading terrible experiences to people who've done their erasmus exchange, and I'm applying this year for an exchange semester but then I hesitate due to the negative reviews. So has anyone had a good experience? Like they really enjoyed their time and didn't regret it?

Also has anyone went to Marburg university maybe can tell me more about it as an exchange student? Or the city overall?

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Erasmus students in France with a dog or cat — ESSEC survey in French (15–20 min)

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Are you an Erasmus student currently living in France and caring for a dog or cat there? I would love to hear about your experience, including with a family pet. This survey is relevant to members of this community balancing student life and caring for a pet in France.

I’m David, an ESSEC student working on a startup project in the pet sector. Before defining a solution, I want to understand real experiences: daily life, vet visits, appointments, finding advice and pet safety. There is nothing to buy.

Participants must be 18+, live in France and care for a dog or cat there. Experiences where everything goes well are welcome too. The questionnaire itself is in French, with 16 open questions taking around 15–20 minutes. Short, concrete answers are enough; “never”, “no problem” and “not applicable” are valid answers. The optional email field at the end is only for a possible follow-up conversation about the project.

Rant I really hate my Erasmus

Hi,

so I went with zero expectations into my Erasmus in the UK. I saved some money, because it was clear that rent would be expensive (900€/month), but I didn't expect the Erasmus-money to not be there yet and take so long. I settled in, saw a lot of the city and made friends that are not international students.

But nontheless, I just want to go home. I have several disabilities and have to live with a roomate (I know that's kinda priviledged to only have one roommate, but for my illness situation it's not ideal to live with anybody, since I need access to the bathroom 24/7). My room gets cold over night, because they save on heating expenses. My bed is like 90cm in width and on a grid, so it hurts my back and isn't comfortable at all - also bad for insomnia-related disabilities. The food here is expensive as fuck, I can't really eat what would be fine for my illnesses. And we have room inspections like we are 5 year-olds to check for forbidden items, e.g. like heat blankets - they would really help with the symptoms of my chronic illnesses. It's loud, people do fireworks at night or just shout through the streets, and we are supposed to be at a quieter part of the city. And all of that for fking 900€ a month.

I really miss my home country, where something like room inspections are illegal, the food is affordable and my own flat has disability-accommodations. Really hate it here, just wanna get home asap - but I would have to pay back the money, so I can't.

Advice needed: would short online courses help with a non-matching degree?

I’m applying to GLOCAL. My bachelor's degree is in English (top ~5% of my faculty, graduated 2019), followed by 7 years in hospitality and digital consulting, plus co-founding a small arts organisation.

Academic gap: no economics or history modules, and no academic research experience.

I’m thinking of taking two or three short university-run online courses (economic history, research methods) before the deadline and listing them on my CV and briefly in my motivation letter.

  1. Do committees give any weight to short online courses, or do they look like padding?
  2. Has anyone with a non-matching degree been accepted, and how did you make the case?

Thank you for your advice in advance!

Accomodation at University of Leeds for exchange student

I'm considering going to Leeds for my exchange next semester and was wondering if anyone had information about the different residences offered at the University of Leeds?

I'm mostly looking about personal experiences and information related to the atmosphere of the different residences! I've noticed that they offer both catered and self-catered and was wondering if one was more appreciated than the other, and if catered was worth it money wise?

I would prefer a social accomodation and one on campus directly so that I can fully enjoy the student clubs and associations! Are there some residences y'all would recommend or not based on your experience?

Also I'll gladly accept information deemed relevant before leaving for exchange!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Anyone in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain?

Hey guys,

I’ll be spending the spring semester 2027 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (The Basque Country), and I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done Erasmus there. How was your experience? What did you get up to? What’s the accommodation situation like, and how would you describe the Erasmus community?

Unlike Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz seems to be a bit under the radar when it comes to Erasmus, and I haven’t been able to find any groups, communities, or other resources to help me get a feel for the city and what to expect.

If you’ve been there, have any tips, or better yet, are heading there yourself for the spring semester, I’d love to hear from you:D

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Budget for Ersmus choices

Hey everyone!

I'm a Master's student in International Business from Romania, and I'm hoping to spend a semester abroad through Erasmus+.

I'm currently considering three universities:

  1. Universitat Politècnica de València – Valencia, Spain (E VALENCI 02)
  2. Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias – Lisbon, Portugal (LISBOA 52)
  3. CY Cergy Paris Université – Cergy-Pontoise, France (F CERGY-P11)

I'd love to hear from current students, former Erasmus+ participants or anyone who has lived in these cities!

1. Living expenses and accommodation

  • What would be a realistic monthly budget for a student in each city?
  • How much should I expect to spend on groceries, public transport, utilities and everyday expenses?
  • Is it cheaper to live in a university dormitory or rent a room in a shared apartment?
  • How difficult is it to find affordable student accommodation?
  • How much money would you recommend saving for a five-month exchange, excluding the Erasmus+ grant?

2. Travelling and exploring

One of my main goals is to travel and experience as much as possible during my exchange.

  • How much extra money should I budget for weekend trips, sightseeing and activities?
  • Are there affordable opportunities to travel around Spain, Portugal or France and visit neighbouring countries?
  • Are there student discounts, travel passes or Erasmus+ organised trips?

3. Student life and Erasmus+ communities

  • Do these universities have active Erasmus+ or international student communities?
  • Are there ESN sections, student associations, social events or organised activities?
  • Is it easy to meet local students rather than only other exchange students?
  • Are there affordable sports clubs, dance classes, art workshops or other extracurricular activities?

4. Language learning opportunities

I'm also very interested in learning foreign languages.

  • Do these universities offer free or discounted language courses for Erasmus+ students?
  • Are there language exchanges, conversation clubs or tandem programmes where international and local students can practise languages together?
  • Are there separate exchange programmes or scholarships that allow people to spend a few months abroad primarily to learn a foreign language?

5. Keeping a job in your home country while studying abroad

This is probably my biggest concern.

I'm currently employed full-time in Romania, and I would ideally like to keep my job while studying abroad, provided I can arrange a compatible work schedule and obtain my employer's approval.

However, I'm concerned about the tax, social security and employment implications of temporarily working remotely from another EU country.

I've heard that employers may be reluctant to allow employees to work from another EU country because of potential tax and social security obligations. I'm not sure how these rules apply to students participating in Erasmus+.

  • Has anyone managed to keep their job in their home country while completing an Erasmus+ semester abroad?
  • Does being an Erasmus+ student make any difference to the rules governing cross-border remote work?
  • Are there EU regulations, bilateral arrangements or temporary remote-work policies that could make this possible?
  • What kind of agreement or documentation did your employer require?
  • Did you encounter any problems with taxation, social security or employment status?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have successfully combined employment with an Erasmus+ study mobility.

My goal is to make the most of the experience while remaining financially responsible. I want to explore, learn languages, meet people, try new activities and travel, but I also want to avoid putting myself in a financially vulnerable position.

Any advice, personal experiences, budget breakdowns or useful resources would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much! 😊

Erasmus salamanca: any experiences?

I have heard that its a nice student city but i'm mainly worried about 2 things:

  1. How bad is winter there? (I've heard it's really grey, rainy and cold - as someone coming from the UK, that kinda scares me as I hate winter around here)

  2. How hard/expensive is it to visit more places from there? I noticed it's quite far west so I thought it might be hard or expensive to visit other places.

Erasmus+ Internship Are there Erasmus+ programmes or funded exchanges where you can spend a few months abroad specifically to learn a foreign language?

Hey everyone! 😊

I'm a 27-year-old Master's student from Romania, and I'm really interested in learning foreign languages through cultural immersion.

I've already participated in several Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges and Training Courses, and I'm currently exploring opportunities to spend a longer period abroad.

I know that Erasmus+ offers study mobilities at universities, but I'm wondering whether there are exchange programmes specifically focused on learning a foreign language while living in the country where it's spoken.

Ideally, I'd love to spend anywhere from 1 to 6 months abroad, attending language classes, practising with native speakers, experiencing the local culture and meeting other international students.

I have a few questions:

  1. Are there Erasmus+ programmes or other EU-funded opportunities specifically designed for language learning, rather than completing a regular university semester?
  2. Can you receive a scholarship or grant to attend a language school abroad for a few months?
  3. Are there opportunities for adults or university students to participate in language immersion programmes without enrolling in a full degree abroad?
  4. Do any programmes cover accommodation, language courses, travel expenses or provide a monthly allowance?
  5. Are there age restrictions, or can someone in their late twenties participate?
  6. Have any of you participated in a funded language immersion programme? If so, where did you go, how long did you stay, and how much did it cost?

I'm particularly interested in learning Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Swedish, Italian and other European languages, but I'm also open to opportunities outside Europe, especially in Japan or South Korea.

I'm not necessarily looking for a traditional university exchange. My main goal would be to learn the local language through immersion while living abroad for a few months.

I'd love to hear about Erasmus+, university language programmes, scholarships, summer or winter language schools, or any other affordable or funded alternatives.

Any recommendations, personal experiences or useful websites would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! 🌍

University student in Spain? We’re looking for volunteers for a 15-minute research interview

Hi everyone!

We're a group of students conducting academic research on the experiences, needs, and behaviors of university students in Spain. We're looking for students currently studying in Spain (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, etc.) from different universities, cities, and backgrounds.

We're conducting short 15-minute interviews and would love to hear a wide range of opinions. You don't need to have any particular experience with wellbeing, mental health, or AI.

The interview is for academic research only, and there are no right or wrong answers.

If you're willing to participate, please comment, and I'll send you a few very short screening questions.

Thank you! 🙏

Erasmus+ Internship Erasmus+ internship, is it really worth it?

I am a postgraduate student in classical archaeology (I am about to finish with my master's in spring 2027) and it's the last opportunity for me to do an Erasmus+ for internship, for 2 months. I don't have a specific institution that I can go to, so I have to find one, but I want sth similar with my thesis or with my research interests. I don't want to go somewhere just to say that I did an Erasmus. I also have in mind the financial part of it - the cost of accommodation etc (I won't get paid by the institution, I will only get the Erasmus fund).

My question is: is it really worth it? The effort, the money, everything. Is it really worth it academically or/and professionally? Is it great for my CV?

I know that the general experience is amazing, but apart from the fun, I want to know if it offers sth more.

Thank you 🫶🏼
