So if you are going to early voting, do yourself a favor and stop in for some really good produce, fresh seafood, asian noodles, and excellent (and inexpensive) Mexican pastries (bakery located after the registers). Thanks to the Redditors who directed me there in my quest for flan (I got their last one that morning).

Fall reminder to not throw away your leaves if you like fireflies

For everyone last summer who said they haven’t seen this many fireflies since they were a kid, please don’t put your leaves out with the trash! Dumping leaves in areas where they can break down naturally is the best way to help the firefly population since they use the leaf litter as a primary habitat for their babies.

If you need info on where to take leaves, the city of Columbus has info here on where to take them and what criteria must be met for yard waste collection: Columbus Leaf Disposal Resources

NEWS Huge Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians (COPC) data breach

This part really pisses me off:

According to HIPAA Breach Notifications rule, covered entities have 60 days after the date of the breach was discovered to provide notification to victims. The breach was discovered on Aug. 25.

They've known about this for more than a month and didn't tell us.

They came for my Soul.

They tried to take my Soul tonight. They weren't even trying to be quiet about the whole thing. I just happened to wake up and heard them. They busted the back window, took the club off of the steering wheel, and busted the ignition lock, Had it in accessory mode with the parking lights etc. on. Why they didn't just finish and drive away we will never know.

This is our fourth Soul in twelve years and only the second attempt to steal it, We are not getting another one.

Coming in for Twentyone Pilots and I’ve never stepped foot into modern society

Is there any food? I have paid parking, but can someone please use telepathy to help me understand both time and space, freeing me up to formulate a game plan.

Is there anywhere that can print out a Twentyone foot cardboard cutout of my face?

How deep do my pockets have to be to sneak in Lavash hummus?

Please help!

If you see me say hello! I’ll be wearing black and red, or maybe black and yellow. I’ll be in some seat a local would have loved.

PHOTO Hi, I"m Tilly! I take jobs...

It’s getting harder and harder to justify supporting this shitty company. My wife keeps bringing home fruits, vegetables, and meats that somehow manage to get worse every season. Apparently, declining quality is now a feature, not a bug.

And remember when grocery stores were about serving their communities, providing decent products, and creating local jobs? Silly me. Now it seems every corporate decision revolves around keeping shareholders happy, cutting payroll, and squeezing every last penny out of customers.

But hey, as long as the quarterly earnings look good, who gives a shit about the people shopping there or working there?

3000 jobs over the next 3 years to AI...poof!

He was adopted out of foster care! AS A BABY! Then he won a championship in football?! Fuck yeah, bring that sports ball to congress! His adoptive father was laid off after 25 years. I don't know what fight he's talking about but just look at that smile and the barely open eyes. This is obviously a man we can trust because he was adopted and that makes the first energy scandal irrelevant.

Seriously. How fucking desperate are they?

Wonder when the next round of layoffs will be?

Tired of walking around on pins and needles this year. I mean sure fire 25 at the beginning of the year and let another 15+ walk during the year. Jack up the price. Run a BOGO which will be crushing this holiday season. Burn many corporate relationships. Continue to travel all over the country. Let people drink on the job. Its truly embarrassing.

And before you ask, I believe in the core of the mission of educating my kids.

Got Data Centers? Grove City residents demand a VOTE on mega-projects

Quick background -

In the Spring, Grove City residents found out that Texas firm Headwaters is seeking to develop a 310 acre parcel off Rensch Rd for the construction of a data center.

City officials were in conversations with the developer long before residents became aware of what was being proposed.

Citizens pushed for a moratorium. An unprecedented show of support at a council meeting (the room was full, the overflow was full, people were chanting outside the building), one courageous councilperson, and a flurry of emails and calls from the community managed to get the moratorium across the finish line. Great! A 12 month moratorium was passed and a task force created.

Two months later, the task force had yet to meet once.

Meanwhile, a group of residents had decided that it should NOT take the entire town overflowing a city council meeting to have our voices heard on these huge mega-projects. Using their own money, they retained an attorney to help draft a charter amendment that would protect the city, even after the conclusion of the moratorium.

Those same residents started circulating a petition proposing a charter amendment which would require a VOTE for Heavy Industrial developments which tripped one of three triggers:
>Occupy 50 acres or more of land
>Use more than 20 mW of electricity
>Consume greater than 500,000 gallons of water per day

1500 Grove City residents signed the petition and the Board of Elections certified the ballot issue.

That’s when it all went crazy. Those currently in sole possession of the power to okay developments in the community fought back fiercely against residents who demanded a seat at the table. The proposed charter amendment was heavily criticized by city government officials.

Then, the folks at Protect Grove City were surprised to learn that the city wanted to meet to discuss a potential collaboration. The citizens would hear the city’s concerns, and work to amend the amendment to address them. Then the amended version could be put before council for consideration. Version 7.1 was born.

City council was given a choice. Legally, they had a responsibility to put the citizen led initiative on the ballot, but the collaborative version was offered to them as an alternative. They left it on the floor. Mayor Ike Stage’s administration was far more confident that they could defeat the original amendment than the collaboration, so they refused to even consider that version.

The original Community Consent Amendment was placed on the ballot and is now known as Issue 28 in Grove City.

Then came the counter campaign. Expensive mailers started to appear in mailboxes with Grove City branding on them, urging a ‘no’ vote on Issue 28, allowing as few as four council members the sole discretion to decide the fate of these mega-developments. A PAC was formed to counter the amendment and sent out more expensive mailers.

So that’s where we are now in Grove City. Our own city government, fighting a citizen-led ballot initiative, because they don’t want to share that power. Meanwhile, Headwaters, that developer from way back in the spring, is hanging around stating that they’re “committed to going through the moratorium process”.

Issue 28 is how Grove City residents lock in their right to vote on the largest developments which may change the character of the city, even after the moratorium expires or is lifted.

Is it about data centers? Yes. Is it JUST about data centers? No - and that was done on purpose, because a city cannot ban an entire industry without risking a lawsuit. Instead the thresholds were intentionally designed to mirror the profile of a data center, but would include, say, a new power plant (often what comes after the data center) or any other large industrial campus.

Jen Belt of Protect Grove City explains in this short video: https://youtube.com/shorts/3esm1gao9eE?si=zUNWHEyIAxRsULJv

Live in Grove City? Want a voice on the biggest developments in your city? Vote YES on Issue 28 to lock in your right to vote on what industries come to YOUR town.

Visiting Columbus for Twenty One Pilots this weekend?

First off, welcome to Columbus! Hope you enjoy the city and have a great time at the show.

A couple things to keep in mind. The All American Quarter Horse Congress is also going on this weekend, and the Columbus Marathon is Sunday. So there are going to be a lot of people in town who aren't here for the concert.

Also, don't overthink the traffic and parking situation. Ohio Stadium hosts crowds this size or larger multiple times a year and has been doing so for decades. There will be traffic, but Columbus knows how to handle a packed stadium. Here's the official parking map.

Local businesses will certainly appreciate having you here, and people might be curious where you're visiting from or what brings you to town. But also understand that for most people living here, the concert isn't really that big of a deal. It's not meant as a slight against the band or its fans, it's just that Columbus hosts major events all the time.

Have fun, spend some money at our local businesses, and enjoy the city!

PHOTO My Experience with Empower on Snouffer Road in Columbus, Ohio — A Concern for Parents

Post image
140 Upvotes

— Parents Should Be Aware-
I’m sharing my firsthand experience with Empower on Snouffer Road because I believe parents deserve transparency when researching programs for their children.
I had a tour scheduled for 10:00 AM with Alexis Young/Mrs.Olson) arrived around 9:50 AM, checked in at the front office, and signed the sign-in sheet. I waited approximately 30–40 minutes and was asked to continue waiting because another tour was running over. Ultimately, I left without receiving the tour I had scheduled.
While I was sitting in my car preparing to leave, my dashcam captured footage of a child running from the building area toward the parking lot and a nearby tree. I did not initially notice a staff member immediately behind the child. This raised a safety concern for me, so I kept the footage and photos and submitted a report.
I subsequently posted an honest Google review describing my experience. Later, I noticed that a five-star review had been posted approximately 10 hours after my review. I recognized the reviewer as someone I believed was friends with Alexis Young based on social media. I found the timing noteworthy, but I cannot establish why that review was posted.
I also later discovered that my own Google review was no longer visible. I cannot confirm why it disappeared, but the experience left me disappointed because I wanted to share my firsthand concerns with other parents.
I am not sharing this to attack an individual or identify the child in the footage. My concerns are about the scheduled tour, the safety situation I observed, and the importance of transparency when parents are evaluating a program.
If you are considering Empower on Snouffer Road, I encourage you to ask questions about supervision, safety procedures, and how concerns are addressed. Parents deserve to feel comfortable and informed when making decisions about their children’s care and education.

Stephen Albright Killer Release Date

I posted on here a few years ago when my friend, Stephen Albright of Grandview Heights, was murdered back in November 2023. He was a father of two high school daughters, a husband to an amazing human of a wife, and was a pillar of our community. Grandview Heights still has not healed from his loss. His killer, Jacob Laurence, is due to be released from prison on November 9, 2026 and his one year of probation will begin on that date. His nine year sentence was actually 3 years because the multiple charges against him made his time served to be concurrent and consecutive. I've been trapped in my own deep grief, not sure how to express any emotion other than anger. I don't know what to do with this pain other than to carry it, but I'm tired.. There feels like no justice. All the wrong people are dying. Kids are being shot up in schools, etc. Please tell me about good things that are going right for you and this community. I need a silver lining.

Thank you.

What's on in Columbus this weekend: art, a farmers market donation drive, and a morning saunter

Checking what's happening around town this weekend and there's a nice mix of stuff for Saturday, Oct 17.

The Said Oladejo-Lawal Art Exhibition is up at Java Gallery at Java Central in Uptown Westerville, good low key option if you want something indoors.

If you're an early riser, Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is hosting an Early Morning Autumn Saunter, and Pilates Plus has a Beginner Reformer Pilates class at 8 AM, both good ways to start the day before it gets busy.

Worthington Farmers Market is doing a cornbread mix donation drive, small thing but nice if you're already headed there, and Ohio Brewing has The Cold Start happening too. Honestly the autumn saunter sounds like the move if the weather cooperates.

Full calendar here if you want to dig in: https://ma.to/events/columbus?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mato_event_sync&utm_content=columbus

FOUND Found dog: Westgate neighborhood

Post image
102 Upvotes

UPDATE 11:42pm: Waiting to get confirmation tomorrow, but it seems we've found his owners! Dog is at a reputable shelter and we've seen proof of ownership so he should be back home soon.

Found this guy wandering around soaking wet and scared in the Westgate neighborhood by Josie's Pizza right off Broad St on the west side of Columbus around 11:30am today, Friday October 16.

Intact male, very sweet with people. No chip. He's safe and sound for now but hoping to find his owners/people to get him home.

We'll be posting to PetFBI as well but if there's other places we should be getting his face out there please let me know!
