Your mod team is happy to officially announce that our Game Day Threads (GDTs) will be receiving a major overhaul in their presentation!
We are aware that many members of this community have been asking for an update to our GDT format. We know there are other GDTs out there that have caught your attention. And we also know that quite a few of you like things exactly the way they are.
With that in mind, we set out to develop a plan that would move the Avalanche subreddit into the future without abandoning what brought you all here in the first place.
Our solution is an in-house GDT app, which has been in active development over the past several weeks and has now entered its testing and polish phase.
NumberyardOS
As of right now, we have not decided on a formal name. This is a development name. As we approach roll-out date, we will open up polls so you all can choose what to name it.
MVP (It's Working!)
We don't want to show you EVERYTHING we have in store for the future of our GDTs...
Here are some small sneak peeks of what is coming.
LIVE GAME UPDATES
INTERFACE PREVIEW
Features
The app is being developed to provide a more interactive Game Day Thread experience while keeping the familiar discussion format we already enjoy.
LiveCenter: Graphics! Animations! (NEW Primary Access Point)
Live Scoreboards: ESPN-powered scores, updated automatically during games. Our current polling interval is every five seconds, compared with the 30-second interval used by our existing GDT system.
Live Game Clock: Current period, remaining time, and game status.
Live Play-by-Play: Goals, penalties, shots, saves, faceoffs, and other events reported by ESPN.
Team Statistics: Shots, hits, blocked shots, takeaways, and other available statistics, displayed graphically.
Player Statistics: Individual player performances, with the ability to switch between the Avalanche and their opponent.
Period-by-Period Scoring: A breakdown of each team's scoring throughout the game.
TextCenter: A Familiar Experience (Secondary Access Point)
Traditional GDT Presentation: TextCenter maintains the familiar, text-based game information directly within Reddit, alongside the interactive LiveCenter.
Automated Game Information: Scores, team statistics, and game details are generated using NHL and ESPN data.
Live Updates: Game information can be refreshed throughout the game as new data becomes available.
Community Shout-Outs: We're introducing a new section highlighting community posts that are resonating with Avs fans.
In-House Integration: TextCenter and LiveCenter are built into the same system, without depending on third-party GDT applications.
Old Reddit-Friendly (Third Access Point)
No One Left Behind: We recognise that many longtime community members still prefer Old Reddit. Our goal is to ensure they can continue enjoying familiar, text-based GDT information through TextCenter without needing to switch to New Reddit.
Traditional Formatting: TextCenter uses standard Reddit text and Markdown formatting, keeping game information readable without relying on the interactive LiveCenter interface.
Same Community, Same Discussion: Regardless of which version of Reddit you prefer, the GDT remains a shared place for Avalanche fans to gather and discuss the game.
Previous & Upcoming Games
Previous Games: Browse past Avalanche games, including final scores, team statistics, player performances, and play-by-play.
Upcoming Games: View opponents, scheduled dates, times, and venues.
Historical Data: Access available NHL and ESPN game information directly within the app.
Game Navigation: Move between previous, current, and upcoming games without leaving the interface.
Personalisation & Accessibility
Spoiler Controls: To be revealed.
Dynamic & Animated Interface: To be revealed.
Mobile and Desktop Support: Responsive layouts for different screen sizes, with additional refinements ongoing.
Design Philosophy
No Data Collection
We're living in a time when data collection is practically everywhere, including Reddit. We decided to take a different approach.
NumberyardOS is designed without user tracking, analytics, or behavioural profiling.
We do not collect or store personal information about people using the app.
We do not use cookies or local storage to remember your activity or preferences.
Game information is obtained from external sports data sources, including ESPN.
We do not intend to offer this to, or solicit, other hockey subreddits or sporting leagues.
This is an in-house solution, built for this community.
That's... it.
Better Defaults
We believe a well-designed application should be readable and accessible without requiring users to customise it first. That's why we've prioritised readability, sensible defaults, and layouts that accommodate different screen sizes.
You'll have some control over the app's appearance, but those preferences will not persist when you refresh the page. We deliberately chose not to store your settings or track how you use the interface.
[Features, appearance, and functionality may change as we continue testing and incorporating feedback ahead of the public rollout.]

Rollout
We have not determined an exact date that the GDTs will be fully transitioned to the app.
There may be a short period where the old GDTs are posted alongside the new GDT format. This will allow us to process your feedback and finalise any community-requested changes.
We expect that testing and further tweaks will take 1 week, at most, from today.
Current projections have a full rollout before the end of the month!
We will keep you posted as we get closer!

We are very aware there have been ongoing discussions regarding the current state of GDTs on this subreddit and other hockey subreddits.
We deeply appreciate you all as Avalanche fans and thank you for your patience as we have put together a plan and allowed us to execute it.
We chose to develop this in-house, as we felt it was, is, and will be the best way to serve this community moving forward, while keeping in touch with what got us here in the first place.
This app announcement is an invitation to all of you to provide us feedback on what you hope to see.
There will be more updates to come... and we are EXCITED to bring you a new GDT format!

Finally, we would like to thank u/arcytcdev for all the GDTs and interactions we've had.
I went to the first Goatheads game! Even though they didn’t win, it was great fun with a couple of scrums and the first franchise goal.
There were a fair number of Avs jerseys around, and I love that they have similar colors. I hope to go to many more games during their inaugural season.
After a terrible start from the defense going down two goals, our Avalanche roared back to five unanswered, including two from Lehky and TJ Hughes getting his first NHL goal!
Favored son of Cole Harbour tonight, Nathan MacKinnon, broke the power play skid!
A post in r/Denver about an airline starting direct flights to Ottawa next summer prompted me to ask someone I know if we should go catch a Sens game next season (Avs at Sens).
But in general: what teams / arenas do you like? Why? Any you avoid as an Avs fan? Why? I’ve only caught the Avs at Pepsi Center / Ball Arena.
Just reminding everyone that our new ECHL affiliate plays its first ever game tonight! In honor of the Goatheads first game I’ll be wearing a little something different today than my usual Avs gear 😁
Is there any way around the "can't leave a single seat" rule when buying two tickets? I don't want to buy the third and it makes me want to walk away from the purchase completely because those are some of the only seats I was willing to spend the cash on.
How are other single seats left to pick from in the stadium?
Just to demonstrate how cursed the game was last night. This is an incredibly rare bounce and the last triple dink no goal I can find is 2014 Vincent Lecavalier. I'm not sure this is something regularly tracked but it is much more rare than even a double dink which still uncommon.
Thought it was interesting as I had never seen one before so did some research.
Hey all, had some luck lately on depop and Mercari grabbing a couple jerseys for cheap, and this Hejduk comes with these signatures on it. The JSG looks like it could be Giguere, but the others I’m not sure. Any help or knowledge would be awesome
