I think it's one off the most underrated Guy Ritchie movies even thoughit'svery similar to his other films. In this movie Gerard Butler is playing One Two who is working with criminal Lenny Cole who recently got very expensive painting from Russian shady buisnes men .

John Michael McDonagh’s feature debut is one of the best black comedies of the 2010s imo.

Brendan Gleeson is so good as a foul-mouthed, politically incorrect Irish policeman who reluctantly teams up with Don Cheadle’s FBI agent to investigate a drug-smuggling operation.

The dialogue is razor-sharp, the humour pitch-black, and the chemistry between Gleeson and Cheadle is brilliant.

I wonder if John Michael McDonagh is overshadowed by his brother Martin McDonagh - In Bruges, Three Billboards, The Banshees of Inisherin?

Either way, I think The Guard deserves way more recognition. Anyone else think it’s criminally underappreciated?

This movie still holds up well today with the slow burn of the story lines and the satisfying finish of the end.

Discussion The cinema staff loved my husband’s shirt so much they gave him a gift tonight 😅

While I was in the bathroom post film, one of the staff chuckled at his shirt as he walked by, then he came back and asked if he really was Whalefall’s #1 fan.
He told him “You’re damn right I am” and he asked if he wanted the banner.

For those wondering the front of his shirt says WHALEFALL #1 FAN and the back says WHALEFALL FILM OF THE YEAR 2026. Ya can’t make this shit up.

Discussion We are used to seeing comedy takes of serious movies (Airplane, Hot Shots, Men in Tights etc), but which comedy movie would you like to see with a serious take?

• Upvotes

If Me Myself and Irene or Dumb and Dumber, Groundhog Day or Some Like it Hot were adapted or remade onto serious drama films in the vein of Falling Down, 2001 or Interstellar, would they work?

The go to always seems to be to go for a comedy variation of a successful drama/thriller/sci fi etc production but I was wondering if there have been any films that have gone in the opposite direction?

(Posting this here because Reddit said it might be appropriate, there's lots of discussion already over at r/movies)

Poster Underrated sci-fi gems part 3

I previously shared the first and second part at this links: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cinema/s/9lBTMwIhLe and https://www.reddit.com/r/Cinema/s/9eTcgWaQPo

Relatively unknown, fantastic sci-fi movies can sometimes be overshadowed by blockbusters. Unfortunately, Hollywood is a massive abyss in this regard. Here’s a great list. Some of these films could be considered cult classics, while others are virtually unknown. This is the part three of the list.

Discussion How Leonardo DiCaprio made me love cinema

Post image
• Upvotes

It started 4 years ago, back when I was just beginning to get into cinema seriously. I remember wanting to watch a movie by a prestigious director, and I chose Scorsese. Because of its mystery theme, I picked Shutter Island. I was absolutely blown away by Leo’s performance, he had something hypnotic that I cannot describe. I stayed awake all night thinking about it.

The next day I watched The Aviator and was just as impacted. From that point on, I watched Leo’s entire filmography in less than a month. I developed a sort of obsession. I also watched his interviews frequently.

For some reason, before this I had not paid much attention to Leo. I was never aware of what an incredible actor he is. Even before Titanic, I checked and saw he was already exceptional. Leonardo DiCaprio was my gateway to good cinema. Since then I have seen hundreds of movies and become a cinephile, I admire many other actors, but Leonardo DiCaprio remains my favorite actor. I hold a special affection for him for introducing me to good cinema, and to me, his screen presence is still magnetic, while his acting connects with me and moves me in a unique way.

Apparently, these are the films I’m supposed to have seen by now. The ones people look at me like I’ve committed a cinematic crime for missing. What ones would you watch first? There are in no particular order.
