Quick interview with law enforcement officer, firefighter, or EMT?

I am a grad student taking a class on counseling first responders. I am looking for a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or EMT in the Bay Area who would be willing to do a 15-minute interview with me over the phone. It won't be recorded, it's purely for my learning! Please let me know any leads!

Rec for Quality Men's Scissor Cut in Bay Area

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a skilled barber/stylist in the Bay Area who does high quality work. I'm willing to pay for a great, detailed haircut. Most of the Reddit pays I've seen are looking for a low-priced option. I'm def willing to go high-end if it's worth it. Thanks for your help.

Strategies to meet and befriend neighbors in your neighborhood?

• Upvotes

Just moved to the Inner Richmond. Want to make friends in the neighborhood - looking for regular recurring activities with a neighborhood focus to meet and befriend neighbors.... neighborhood clean ups, block parties, community events organizing, etc.

What has worked for you to do this? Extra points for Inner Richmond-specific suggestions!

Amazing SF events and destinations - share your gems!

My spouse and I have made it a point to go out more, have more fun, and meet new people. Over the past two years we have had an incredible amount of fun and are always looking for new things. Share some of your top-tier SF things to do, see, or eat across ages, cultures, and interests.

Here are some of mine:

Motown on Mondays @ Madrone Art Bar - For me, this is peak SF - great music, great crowd, great mix of ages and backgrounds. The place is packed every Monday. The dance floor is filled with regulars but always welcomes newcomers. I feel really cool when I'm there. Every Monday, 7pm-2am. $5 after 8pm.

Mighty Real with David Harness - This regular dance event (most months, but not all) is a daytime party that gets started right away and is over by 8pm. It's mostly Gospel House, but he throws in a classic now and then. The crowd is amazing - very gay, mostly Black, but they graciously let this white girl dance the afternoon away. Next one is Nov 7. Very reasonable ticket price.

Erotic Partner Yoga at Twist - I use the term 'yoga' very lightly. Think of it as an hour of foreplay followed by the opportunity to end happily. Every Wednesday 7:30-9pm at Twist SF, $60/couple.

Archemedes Spa - Rooms so hot they could melt your eyelashes off, a cafe, sunbathing with a Bay View, steam rooms. Co-ed and clothing optional.

Please share your recommendations!

Any recommendations for cool Halloween parties in SF / Bay Area? 🎃

I really want to make the most of Halloween this year and go to at least 3 different parties! I’d really appreciate some recommendations for events that are actually fun, unique, and have a great atmosphere.
Ideally, I’m looking for something with a fun crowd, creative costumes, and a slightly more mature vibe rather than sketchy clubs or parties full of teenagers.
SF would be ideal, but I’m happy to go anywhere in the Bay Area if it’s worth it!
I’m looking for events happening this weekend and next weekend. Would love to hear about any hidden gems, themed parties, or cool events you’ve been to before! 🎃

How do you safely unload your car when moving to San Francisco alone?

I’m moving to San Francisco and would will be driving across the country with a car full of my belongings.

I keep seeing posts warning people never to leave anything in their cars, even for a few minutes, because of smash-and-grab thefts.

So I’m genuinely curious, how do people moving to SF alone actually unload their cars?

If you’re moving into an apartment and don’t know anyone in the city, you’re obviously going to need to leave your car unattended while carrying things inside, potentially making multiple trips.

Is this something I should actually be concerned about? How have others handled it? Are there any practical tips or precautions you’d recommend?

I’d especially love to hear from people who moved here on their own and had to figure this out.

Fort funston beach accessible now?

I’m trying to plan a day trip to Fort Funston but understand that the beach may not be accessible during high tide. I’m checking tideschart to see how high the tides are during what times, but does anyone know at what level the tide needs to be below to be able to walk along the beach?? It looks like it’s even higher next week 😨

I know there are a bunch of options, but if I just wanted to check out some casual stand-up comedy, what do you suggest?

I'm not up on current comics and I haven't seen live stand-up comedy in a while, so what are some places you like to check out? Thanks!

Does Young Urban Zen still have community dinner on Tuesdays before meditation?

• Upvotes

It's been a while since I attended, but I'm visiting tomorrow, and I recall a community meal being served prior - but see no mention of it on the website. Thanks for confirming if it's still happening!

Halloweekend

• Upvotes

Hello, I am traveling to the city this Halloween and was wondering what’s the protocol for the weekend? What are the MUST go to parties/clubs/bars? Do I need to reserve a spot (there is a big group of us going) in order to be able to get in? Where should we start heading out? Any tips, recommendations, and suggestions are highly welcomed and appreciated!! Thank you

Looking for used marine line for knot workshop

I am setting up a knot workshop for my rowing club and wanted to check if anyone had suggestions for finding or has used 1/2" or 3/4" marine or dock line before I go to West Marine and spend a billion dollars on new rope.

Some of it will be cut into 6' lengths and some will be kept longer for other skills development (coiling, throwing, etc), otherwise doesn't need to be in perfect shape to be helpful. Also trying to find three dock-sized cleat hooks if anyone has those lying around as well.

Happy to pay for used gear or arrange for donation receipt, the club is a non-profit.

Don’t ships have places to be? Cape Sable

The Cape Sable is always docked by Pier 80 and i’m at a point where i’m gonna need some answers. Why? If a ship is always docked, does it start to lose its purpose and identity? Does it long for the open water?

Best place for a value one-off men’s suit in SF?

I need a suit for a wedding that I will probably only use once. I’m a little bigger than I normally am so my old suits don’t work. I was thinking of going to Zara but it’d be nice to also get it tailored a bit if the place offers. Any advice? Thanks

Wild Parrots in Mission Bay

Does anyone know what caused the wild parrots to start showing up in the Mission Bay / South Beach area?

I’ve lived in this neighborhood for a few years but only started seeing them in the last few months. Usually I only see them around North Beach.

Very happy they decided to come down here! I love seeing them :)

family friendly Marin restaurants

Hey everyone my family of 4 with a 4 year old and 13 years are visiting next week for a family wedding in Petaluma. I've been scouring this forum and learned so much.

We are doing a morning at Muir Woods and a drive up the 1 to Point Reyes after and need some food recs please. We are adventurous and just want to enjoy the gorgeous nature you all have.

Should we drive down to the Boardwalk even though that is in the other way? honestly just thinking about In N Out if needed.

Any advice? We are bummed Alcatraz will be closed so we will have to come back.

I am planning to head into the city for a movie this week but gonna take bart to japantown + ride my electric scooter. Are the garages safe for parking ebikes / escooters? Or are there any bikelink cages? I have solid locks, I just don’t want some random to have enough time to cut the locks and drive away while I am sitting during a movie, thanks!
