Looking for a wedding to attend somewhere in the UK/Europe - hear me out 😂💍

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m so new to Reddit that I think I may have accidentally deleted my original post and some of the sweetest comments. 😭 so let me write this again in this community, sorry!!

My husband (34M) and I (33F) recently moved to London because of my husband’s work relocation. We’ve been together for over three years, and with his transfer happening so quickly, we ended up getting married in Japan and moving to the UK almost all at once.

In Japan, you can literally just submit the paperwork and boom you’re married. No ceremony, no cute dress, no photos, no celebration at all. (I was literally wearing just a T-shirt and jeans 🥲😂)

But having a proper wedding surrounded by family and friends has always been a dream of mine. Before the relocation, we often talked about what our wedding might look like — maybe a chapel in Tokyo, maybe wear a kimono, a fancy dinner, fun activities, etc. But everything happened so quickly that we never really had the time or headspace to plan one.

And now that we’re living in London, and it looks like we’re going to be here for a while, I’d love to have a wedding celebration somewhere in the UK or Europe. (Maybe like next autumn - I know it sounds crazy!)

There’s just one tiny problem… my husband isn’t particularly keen on the idea. 🥲 He’s never been to a European wedding and seems to think they’re too traditional for a Japanese couple like us to have one. I honestly think he just doesn’t realise how beautiful and fun they can be! So I thought hmm maybe he just needs to experience one first so that he’d change his mind. 🤔😂 - he likes parties and celebrations, so I know for 100% once he’s experienced what a European wedding is like, he’d be keen to have one too.

So here I am, looking for a lovely couple who might be willing to have us at their wedding somewhere in the UK or Europe, ideally before the end of this year — either as guests or potentially as a +1 situation, if that makes more sense.

We’re both Japanese, friendly, respectful, and genuinely excited about meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.

And I promise we’d be the kind of guests who are genuinely excited to celebrate with you — dressing appropriately, respecting your traditions, enjoying the food, dancing if appropriate, and most importantly, being there to celebrate YOU, not just to carry out my secret mission. 😂 We’d of course bring a wedding gift too. We swear we’re decent people haha

And yes, we’re happy to travel pretty much anywhere in Europe — the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland… wherever your wedding takes place.

So my ultimate goal? To have my husband come home from a European wedding, look at me and say: “Okay… that was so much fun. Maybe we should have a wedding celebration here in Europe too!”

If you’re getting married somewhere in Europe and would genuinely be comfortable having two Japanese newcomers from London join your celebration, I’d absolutely love to hear from you!

We’d be very happy to introduce ourselves, exchange Instagram handles, chat beforehand, or even have a video call so you know exactly who we are.

Also, if you’re happy to connect on Instagram, feel free to drop your ID in the comments or send me a DM! I’d love to make some new friends here, too. 🥰

I know this is probably one of the most random posts you’ll see today, but thank you so, so much for reading! 🥺🌸💍

Discussion Mom taking over guest list.

Hi Reddit. For context, my parents are covering wedding costs. My mom is also desi and I’m an only child so as much as I would like otherwise, I don’t need advice on how to handle my mom (there is no way to handle her lol) I am excited for the wedding but me and my partner are going along with a lot to give her her “dream wedding” that’s she has envisioned for me. Don’t get me wrong, it will be beautiful but the guest list is being taken over by family. I don’t have as big of a social circle so fiancé especially is feeling bummed about limiting amount of friends invited. He also has a bio mom, step mom and dad so lots of fam. I had a thought. What if he and I threw a “wedding sequel rager” for friends only maybe a month from the actual wedding. Informal but have plenty of food and drinks. Tons of dancing and karaoke. No gifts, no formality. Has anyone done this before and would friends feel offended about not being invited to the main wedding.

Help! Wedding Polls/ Funny questions apps?

Everything at our wedding will be digital and accessible via QR codes. One of the cards will link to a fun little poll with silly questions like “Who’s most likely to go to bed first?”

I’m hoping to include a mix of multiple-choice and short-answer questions (around 6 total).

Has anyone done something like this or know of a website that would work well? Ideally, guests could scan the QR code, answer all the questions in one place, and see everyone else’s responses afterward, including the written answers. This would be at their leisure, not an event where everyone connects and does it together.

I liked Votense, but found guests couldn't see any written answer results.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Discussion Big wedding or small wedding. What’s your vibe?

I am curious, are more couples leaning towards smaller, more intimate weddings?
Or the whole Gretna Green idea. Running away to get married. Eloping.
Runaway bride 😝😝😝
What are you planning?
