Relationships/Family My (the bride) dad left after walking me down the aisle.

Yes. You read that right.

My wedding was yesterday. A few small things went wrong as I had expected. It all started at the rehearsal on Friday.

For some context, my dad is a HUGE football fan. He basically makes it his personality. He has only missed 8 games since 1976. That’s how dedicated he is. So, I was afraid he would make some comment about missing a game during his speech at the wedding reception, so at the rehearsal dinner I went up to him and said something along the lines of “hey, please don’t say anything about football tomorrow - I know how involved you are in it but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t”. Immediately after he copped an attitude and said “it’ll be short sweet and to the point you don’t have to worry”. So I carried on with the night.

During the actual rehearsal run through, as planned he was to walk me down the aisle. In the part where I take his arm to start walking, he basically held his arms to his front and wouldn’t let me rope my arm through his. This happened in both run throughs. I thought it was weird but whatever, my dad is weird about touchy feely so that’s what I thought it was.

Later on, right as everyone was sitting down for the dinner, he walked over to my in laws and said he was “feeling sick” so he left. I didn’t think anything of it. We finished the night and went all our separate ways.

So, wedding day - I told my mom if my dad was acting weird he wouldn’t be walking me down the aisle. He didn’t arrive until about an hour before the ceremony and I didn’t really see him. My mom, of all people, should have been able to tell if he was acting funny. She claimed she didn’t know. So he walked me down the aisle. It was beautiful. Only one hiccup with the music.

My husband and I go to take our pics after the ceremony. We come back from that & go to bustle my dress. The coordinator comes to help and says my dad left because he was “feeling a little sick”. I was shocked. I later saw my brother and he said it’s because I “attacked” my dad with what I said. So, my dad left. Right after the ceremony. I’m his only daughter. My brother married his wife but they just went to the courthouse because they didn’t want to deal with this drama we know our parents would put us through.

I am still livid from yesterday. I most certainly won’t let him live down the fact he left the wedding acting like a child as a 60 something year old adult. My father in law and I danced instead of my dad. I’m sure you could see the anger on my face during that dance, but oh well. What’s done is done. My in laws were disgusted with my dad as well. They couldn’t believe he acted the way he did.

I’m writing this from the airport, waiting to leave for our honeymoon. I’m hoping I can forget it for our trip but it’s still just so hurtful to me and my husband.

Let me know your thoughts on this. At this point I’m trying to get my anger out lol.

Vendors/Venue How cold is too cold for an outdoor ceremony?

Having an outdoor wedding this fall and have been seeing comments online about guests being too hot in the summer/ too cold in the fall. It got me thinking, what temperature should we call it and do plan B? Obviously if it’s raining or snowing we will be doing it inside but we have a really beautiful outdoor area I’d love to be married at if possible. The ceremony itself is 15-20
minutes and total guest time outside should be max of 1 hour. Reception is indoors.

Everything Else Any way to get over this type of anxiety?

• Upvotes

Long of the short of it, I’m engaged but don’t like being the center of attention. I feel like everyone is constantly judging me negatively even when they’re pretending to be happy for me. I don’t even want to do an engagement photoshoot cause me and my fiance don’t have a lot of money right now. But also I feel anxious of having a stranger take our photos.

I know I have to get over this if I’m gonna get married and be a bride. I’m gonna try and look for a therapist, but has anyone else experienced this? Any tips?

Vendors/Venue Our venue put the wrong date on the contract!

While trying to remember what time the ceremony will be, I discovered today that the wedding agreement we signed has the wrong date. The date we agreed on and have been telling our loved ones is April 17th, 2027, but the date on the contract is May 15th. My fiancée and I are both in a panic because apparently no one noticed this error before now. What's more, the wedding coordinator at the venue has since retired.

I called the new coordinator today and explained my situation, and she told me that they indeed had us booked for 5/15 in their system. I asked to change it back to 4/17 and she said she could do that, but when I asked for the updated contract, she sent us an older estimate with a much lower price than the final price we agreed on and have been making payments towards. My fiancée also called to ask for the updated contract, but once again we received the old estimate. Now the coordinator isn't answering her phone or replying to our emails.

I'm holding back tears because I'm afraid I ruined our wedding by not getting this resolved sooner. This venue is special to us because it's where we had our first date. I have no idea what I should do now.

Vendors/Venue Planners- when do you call a rain day?

Getting married outside on a Saturday at 4pm, and its been unusually rainy lately. My planner said he will call a rain day by Thursday. I understand that he would need to line up additional to flip the room if it rains, but this seems early to me? Is this customary? Thx!

Dress/Attire Suggestions for MOB dress

• Upvotes

Hoping for suggestions for MOB dress for a garden formal summer wedding. My mom is young, so I’m not looking for anything matronly. I want her to feel great and to coordinate well with the bridesmaids’ lilac dresses and the mixed pastels florals. However, my mom leans towards deeper colours and so far neither of us have fallen in love with anything we’ve found.

Everything Else Looking for recommendations/ideas related to processional

• Upvotes

We are not having a religious ceremony as I am Jewish and my fiance is Christian but since weddings generally follow a Christian template we are including some nods to my Jewish heritage like getting married under a chuppah that my fiance is building.

My fiancé’s dad died unexpectedly a few years ago and I know there are going to be a lot of big emotions surrounding him not being here for such a special day. His mom is a very quiet and reserved woman and I know she especially will struggle not having her husband there with her.

I am between the following for the professional and need some advice

  1. Officiant, then my fiance to escort his mom and meet the officiant at the alter, then my brother and my mom and then my brother to circle back around and escort a bridesmaid (we have 5 pairs of bridesmaids/groomsmen, with best man and maid of honor going last) and then the flower girl (she is 8) with her dad (not part of the wedding party but he could take her to their seats after)

  2. Mostly the same but have my brother line up at the altar after escorting our mom which would leave one extra bridesmaid - the flower girl’s mom is a bridesmaids so they could walk down together

  3. Have my fiance escort both our moms and then the normal 5 pairs and then flower girl and her dad

It feels weird to make the flower girl be on her own? I don’t know if that’s traditional

Thank you for the advice!

Vendors/Venue Wedding in Tucson vs Phoenix

• Upvotes

Looking for some advice on wedding locations.

My immediate family lives in Tucson (I am in Phoenix), but my fiancé’s entire family and lives out of state.

I’m stressed about the travel logistics for Tucson. Flights there can be a pain and usually require a layover. On the other hand, Phoenix is a huge hub with direct flights from everywhere, but the venues there are way more expensive.

If we choose Tucson, we’d probably tell people to fly into Phoenix and just drive the 1.5–2 hours down I-10. But I'm worried that asking out-of-town guests to pay for a flight, rent a car, and do a long drive is pushing it.

Has anyone else done a wedding in Tucson with a lot of out-of-towners? Did it hurt your guest count, or did people mind the drive from the Phoenix airport? I'm torn on whether we should stick with Tucson or hosting in Phoenix.

Relationships/Family Seating Chart Drama

• Upvotes

My wedding is less than 1 month away. Last year, back before I sent the save the dates, I told my sister (23F) that she could invite a friend if she wanted. I thought I was being nice.

Fast forward to me putting together the seating chart, and my sister is mad because I did not sit her friend (and her friend’s boyfriend) at the same table as my sister. My sister is my maid of honor, and she is sitting with my other bridesmaids.

My sister is mad because her friend “won’t know anyone else there.” I thought that was exactly the point of having a plus one, so that you know at least one person. I had planned on sitting this friend with our cousins who are my sister’s age and whom my sister hangs out with, rather than my friends who are 4 plus years older than her.

Should I change the seating chart to accommodate this or am I right in being baffled that she just assumed they’d sit together, even though my sister is in the wedding party? For reference, the table with my bridesmaids has 11/12 seats filled, so I’d have to add a table and have 2 half tables or move my sister, my maid of honor, to sit with my extended cousins.

TLDR: My sister, my maid of honor, wants her friend and her friend’s boyfriend to sit at the same table as her, but I said no.

Everything Else What do you prefer?

Hello! I’m getting married July 2027, but I’m curious what everyone’s doing in the linen department.

Are we buying our own tablecloths, runners, etc? Or are we renting them? What’s the better option?

I’m also curious if we buy them, what are we doing with them after lol

Our wedding is going to be very small, under 75 people in total

Decor/DIY DIY Florals success!!!

We did our own wedding flowers, and I was SO happy with how everything turned out!

What we made:

12 centerpieces
4 handheld bouquets (bridal party)
6 boutonnières
~18 bud vases
Fireplace mantel decor (18 ft long)

⸻

What I bought

Costco mountain bouquets: 2 orders of 10 bouquets at $110 each = $220
100 lavender roses from Costco: $85
Sam’s Club eucalyptus: 2 bulk orders (40 stems each) at $45 per order = $90. One box would have been plenty! Turns out, 40 stems is a LOT of eucalyptus.
25 ft eucalyptus garland for the mantel from Sam’s Club: $190. I’m a little annoyed we didn’t get a better picture of the mantel!
30 spider mums (Fuji mums) from a local florist: $55. These added SO much to the overall look! I picked them up on Wednesday before the wedding, and they opened up so much by Saturday. It was fun walking into the room and seeing the flowers looking even better than when we arranged them.
Boutonnière kit from Amazon: $10
12 plastic 5x5-inch vases from All Floral Supplies: $69
Floralife finishing spray from Amazon: $18

Free/borrowed/thrifted items:

Bud vases were thrifted or gifted by others
Zip ties were gifted
Scissors and glue gun were borrowed
I borrowed 4 regular tall vases to display our bouquets around the venue after the ceremony
Extra flower food
One lady I invited is a local farmer, so she brought some extra flowers that she grew as a gift. This was a nice unexpected addition. I used them in the boquets and the bud vases.

Total spent on florals: $737

We didn’t get many pictures of the bud vases, either, unfortunately

⸻

How we did it

1. I practiced throughout the year.

Whenever I bought a grocery store bouquet, I practiced arranging it. I learned that the size and shape of the vase really determine the size and shape of the centerpiece, so I experimented with different sizes. I found the plastic 5x5-inch vases in bulk at a good price, and that’s what I used for our 8-person tables.

I used Flower Moxie tutorials to practice.

2. I ordered everything to arrive on Tuesday for our Saturday wedding.

We arranged the flowers on Thursday, and I wanted a buffer day in case anything went wrong. Costco arrived on time, but Sam’s Club was a day late.

Some of the lavender roses were a little wilted by Saturday, but everything else looked fresh and vibrant, so it was totally fine. I do think the arrangements would have looked a little underwhelming without the spider mums from the local florist. Those statement flowers made a HUGE difference.

3. We had a flower-arranging party!

This was honestly one of my favorite parts of the process. We provided lunch and mimosas, and 10 ladies helped me arrange everything at my neighborhood clubhouse. The whole thing took about 4.5 hours. It was such a nice way to spend quality time with some of my wedding guests. A few of them were my mom’s close friends who weren’t invited to the wedding but wanted to be a part of it.

I stood at the front and demonstrated how to make the centerpieces, and everyone made theirs along with me. They weren’t all exactly the same, and I was totally fine with that!

I delegated some people to the boutonnières, some to the bud vases, and three people to work on the bouquets with me.

4 Transportation .

We used cardboard boxes and various packing materials saved from Amazon deliveries to keep everything from tipping over during transit. We drove slowly and carefully for the 20-minute trip to the venue.

Luckily, my bridesmaids’ parents have a huge campervan (the Dodge equivalent of a Sprinter van), so we were able to transport everything in one trip.

⸻

Final thoughts

Overall, I was THRILLED with how the flowers turned out! I definitely recommend recruiting plenty of help if you’re planning to DIY your wedding florals.

The flower-arranging party was so much fun, and I loved the flowers even more because we made them ourselves. Seeing everything come together on my wedding day brought me so much joy.

The biggest surprise? I discovered that I genuinely LOVE arranging flowers! Now I have a new hobby and an excuse to keep fresh flowers around the house regularly.

If you’re on the fence about DIY wedding florals, I hope this helps! It’s definitely doable with some practice, planning, and a great group of helpers. While it wasn’t “cheap” we saved probably thousands for everything we ended up with.

Decor/DIY Printer recommendations for wedding invitations (budget €300–500)

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a printer to make my own wedding invitations and stationery. My budget is around €300–500.
I’d like to print on thick cardstock (250–300 gsm), ideally textured or natural-looking paper. Good print quality, reliable paper feeding, low ink costs, and durability are important to me.
I’ve been looking at the Epson EcoTank ET-8500, but I’m open to other recommendations.
Would you recommend it for this purpose, or is there a better or cheaper option? I’d love to hear your experiences, especially with thick and textured paper.
Thanks!

Vendors/Venue Have you used Agave and Rye to cater before or otherwise used a similar caterer?

Wedding is a year away almost to the date. We want to do fancy taco bar for our wedding and agave and rye was a place that came to mind. There isn't one in the city we're getting married jn, so we would have to pick it up from about an hour and a half away and from what I can see we'd have to hire a caterer just to handle the food since agave and Rye doesn't appear to do that themselves.

I really just need some opinions here, I have been furiously googling the idea for weeks and just would like some outside perspectives.

Also super sorry if this is against the rules I did read over them! Any advice welcome. Even suggesting another caterer. The wedding will be in bowling green KY.

Tough Times Parents demanding Catholic wedding

My very Catholic parents are distraught that I am not planning a Catholic wedding. I wish it were as easy as putting my foot down, but my parents cannot stop lecturing/guilting/shaming me when I see them ad nauseum and honestly, it feels like doing something would be easier to just put this to rest.

My dad mentioned we could do a blessing/ceremony that's not a full blown mass to receive the sacrament. I haven't seen much of that online. Has anyone done something like that?

Tough Times Post-wedding: how do I stop dwelling on the things that didn’t go as planned?

My husband and I got married about a month ago, and it truly was a wonderful day. I felt so blissfully happy and couldn’t stop smiling the entire day. Our guests told us they had a great time. They loved how personal our wedding was, and they loved the ceremony, the food and the party. And yet I keep circling back to a few things that didn’t go as planned:

  • My mother came to the bridal suite much earlier than we had agreed and started distracting the HMUA. As a result, I was ready later than planned and we had to rush to get me into my dress. My mother was very stressed, and that rubbed off on me.
  • Because getting ready ran late, there was no time for the bridal portraits I had scheduled, so I don’t have a single photo of just me in my dress. That makes me sad, because I spent a lot of time on my bridal look and I wish I had one photo with my dress perfectly laid out.
  • I had explicitly asked my mother and her partner not to be present at the first look. We really wanted that moment to be just for the two of us. When I arrived at the first look location, her partner was sitting there and immediately started taking photos of me with his phone. So he was the first man to see me, even before my fiancé did. The photographer later had to ask him to move out of the shot, because he was visible in the background during our first look.
  • We had also asked our guests not to take photos during the ceremony. My mother’s partner did so anyway, several times, and because he was in the front row, it was quite noticeable. Several guests commented on it, and I found it distracting too.
  • We hired an expensive photographer and really clicked with her, but on the day itself I missed being given direction. For example, I assumed she would check whether my train was lying nicely before taking a photo (I couldn’t do this myself because my train was long). In the first preview photos, the train is often crumpled in the frame, and there isn’t a single photo where my train is properly spread out with my veil over it. Perhaps I should have asked for it explicitly, but I genuinely thought it was a standard wedding shot. I also hadn’t asked anyone to keep an eye on my train, so it was crumpled as I walked down the aisle and throughout the ceremony.
  • During the ceremony we had our own officiant, but there was also a registrar from the municipality present to make sure everything was legally in order. She had no other role other than being present. When my fiancé went to walk in, she was standing in his way and didn’t move. In the end he simply walked around her. Our guests noticed and commented on it afterwards.
  • We both walked in to music, and I wanted to wait for the right part of the song, but the registrar came up to me and told me to hurry up. I explained that I was waiting for the right moment in the music, but she wanted me to walk in straight away. So she went inside and announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, here comes the bride!” to make sure I would come in after all. I found this very disruptive. She broke my concentration, and as a result I felt rushed and have no memory at all of walking down the aisle.
  • We didn’t want many posed portraits, but a few mattered to us. My parents completely took over that part. They called over the people they wanted in the pictures, and my father handed the photographer his phone because he wanted photos on it too. Afterwards, he immediately shared them with family, before we had even received a single photo ourselves. This, too, made us feel that our boundaries weren’t respected.

Looking back on the day as a whole, I know these are small things. It was a beautiful day, everyone who mattered to us was there, and we got married, so nothing major went wrong. And yet these things keep bothering me, and I keep wondering whether I should have prepared better and been even more explicit about how we wanted things to go. At the same time, I know there is nothing to be done about it afterwards.

Can others relate to this, and if so, how do you stop yourself from circling back to the things that didn’t go as planned? I feel stupid for focusing on these things, because what matters most is that I married the person I love. Yet I can’t seem to shake these feelings.

Everything Else Health anxiety

How do I get over health anxiety??? I am soooo worried about getting sick right before

the wedding. We get married in 20 days. With flu season and this dang dengue fever now (we’re in central florida) I’m in a panic lol I’m drinking water, (attempting) to get good sleep, drinking emergen-c daily, and taking elderberry every day. I am a nurse so at work I’m wearing a mask and making sure to wash my hands and sanitize. The flu shot is not available yet for us.

We have family & friends coming into town soon and I’m so scared about getting sick it makes me not even want to see anyone before the wedding but I know I can’t do that. What has everyone else done to ease this anxiety and support your immune system?

Tough Times Post wedding blue and dwelling on bad parts of wedding

Hi! I got married 2 weeks ago and I’m so happy! I have a great husband and he enjoyed our day so much. Sadly I keep dwelling on things that didn’t go right.

First it rained on the day which I know is good luck but I really wanted a sunny outdoor ceremony. But our flowers and decor were so beautiful! I wish I had told my planner as well for people to fill in seats as there was a big hole of no one seated in them and people had their phone out to record.

Reception was great, my husband and I had a short dance and so did my dad and I since I was so nervous being the center of attention. Our food and drinks were great and our cake cutting and champagne tower were good!

The dance floor was in waves as the dj did play some music I had on our do not play list so sometimes it was a little dead. One guest had told my family as well that the room could’ve been split up more for people to mingle as we had 2 long tables of family and then a head table and one side of the room had family and the other were me and my husband’s friends. This made me overthink because our people had to mingle too.

I just keep overthinking everything. I don’t know how to move past the overthinking.

Relationships/Family I want my dad and step dad to walk me down the isle, neither is thrilled about sharing

And i know they should be able to “tough it out” for one day but alas here we are and so I was thinking maybe one walks me the first part and the other walks me the second part but one will be butt hurt they aren’t doing the hand over and they don’t want to go on either of my arms at the same time

Any ideas I do love and want both of them somehow part of my walk down

Edit for those who are just assuming things - both really want to walk me down the isle and I’m trying to meet both of their wishes while respecting they don’t want to walk together HENCE asking for suggestions on how to incorporate both
