My wife has a 2019 Tiguan we bought it CPO with an extended warranty that I was told was through VW themselves, we bought it in September of 2024 with 30k miles on it, no accidents and good history.
Within a month or so we already had a few issues brought it to a dealer that I trust and has been very good to me and they did everything at that time under warranty. Around late September of last year I noticed oil consumption so we brought it to the dealer and they found the valve seals lifted so they ordered them and mid-October of '25 they gave us a loaner and got the valve seals done. (Also under warranty)
Fast forward to around August-ish of this year the low oil light kept coming on so I just kept adding oil until I could actually make it to the dealer, I should note the car hasn’t been driven too much due to my wife being injured earlier this year so she’s been out of work. Within the last 7k miles I’ve had to add 6 quarts of oil. I was finally able to get to the dealer around the end of September, and you guessed it valve seals need to be done again but now I’m under the extended warranty, cool no problem it’s through VW so should be easy to get approved to do seals, guides, and the cylinder head, etc., etc.
This is where the frustration comes in, my dealer says they have to wait for a 3rd-party inspector to come out and look at it due to the amount of work it needs (but it should be through VW as I was told) come to find out my “extended warranty” is under the VW name but not actually VW themselves.
So at this point the car has been there for almost a week and I call to double check and they tell me the inspector came and looked at it but now they want the cylinder head off to possibly approve it but I was told if they don't approve it then I'm the one that has to front the $2,000–$3,000 to have the head put on and drive away. I should also note I was told that it's the SAME EXACT PART NUMBERS they are putting on if it were to get a new head and seals, was also told they are 3–6 months out.
Tell me why this makes any fucking sense at all. Pretty much expect it to keep happening. We ended up taking the car back and will be just getting rid of it and going to Toyota for her next vehicle, kinda just done with Volkswagen at this point.
With the amount of seals and heads being done you’d think that VW would figure their shit out and actually fix it, there needs to be a class action because at this point it’s just getting absolutely ridiculous, my '19 GLI needs valve seals as well but that’s only a weekend car for me and it’s paid off so doesn’t matter too much.
