2017 VW Tiguan, I want to kms

She's paid off. But why have I had to bring her to the shop about 15 times this year already? She burns oil like no other and now the oil seems fine but engine light is on. I would love a certified pre owned honda crv, i'm tired of dealing with volkswagen "luxury" brand vehicles and my wallet cannot keep up. I'm just bummed, legit only have $6k savings and don't know if I would get approved for a loan because i'm technically unemployed. Le sigh, anyone had any luck with pushing their tiguans to over 200,000+ miles? I seem to have a lemon :(

‘23 Tiguan Coolant Leak & Lease Ending

Leaking coolant

Tiguan is leaking coolant. I took some photos but can’t pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from.
How difficult are the common coolant leaks on these vehicles to diagnose and fix yourself? I’m comfortable doing some DIY work, but I don’t want to get in over my head.

Lease ending with $5,500 in excess mileage

My lease ends in two months. It’s an SE R-Line Black at 48 months, 12,000 miles, but I’m currently at 69,000 miles, resulting in approximately $5,500 in excess mileage charges (~22k miles at .25/mile). My residual is little over $20k. The dealer is offering me a new lease for an SE at 36 mo/12k miles, $2k down, $660/mo. They offered to buy my current Tiguan, and my remaining two payments won’t be rolled into the new lease. However, they say I have negative equity because of the excess mileage. Wouldn’t they offer to buy it if there was equity? Does this sound accurate?

I’m considering buying out my current Tiguan, but I don’t know how complicated the coolant leak would be to fix. I’ll be calling a couple more VW dealerships to see how their numbers compare. Also considering switching brands, if that helps with the excess mileage fees somehow.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Need help finding Puddle Lights

Hello everyone Im looking to get puddle lights installed on my 2023 Tiguan SE (it did not come with lights from factory)
Im having trouble finding the ones that fit and the ones that are available are either 1) made for 2024 and up or 2) requires the vehicle to already have puddle lights. Does anyone know where I can purchase one that fits? I work with techs so they can wire it up for me no problem as long as its a full kit. I don’t want the recharge ones

Tiguan Owners: Would You Buy Yours Again?

I’m considering purchasing a new 2027 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo and would love some honest feedback from current owners!

How has yours held up? Any reliability concerns, mechanical problems, tech glitches, unexpected maintenance costs, or annoyances you’ve discovered over time? Please share your model year and mileage, too!

Knowing what you know now, would you buy another Tiguan, or would you recommend something else? Why?

Interested in hearing the good, bad, and ugly before making the purchase!

2026 Tiguan Comfortline shows Navigation database 24.6 - can dealer activate nav + sign recognition?

Post image

2026 Tiguan Comfortline (Canada). No factory nav, no traffic sign recognition. But System info shows Navigation database: 24.6.

Does that mean the maps are already there and only a license is missing? Can a dealer activate nav + sign recognition, and what would it cost? Is OBD activation possible, and does it affect warranty?

‘26 SEL - Brake Pedal Noise

Leased my ‘26 SEL RLine Turbo in July and this brake pedal noise randomly started in August. Dealer didn’t do anything about it when I took it in, said it was fine and functioning normally, but the sound is driving me insane. It happens when I press and release the pedal. Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Limp mode... again?!

Hey all. 2026 Tiguan SEL R-line avocado green. So I had the very classic limp mode engine issue back in February/March and car was in the shop for about six weeks waiting for the software update. At that time it seemed to fix everything.

The months following, I would occasionally, maybe one in every 100 start-ups, have error messages that the driving assist systems were not working, and these would typically go away with a restart or the next time I left the car off for a while and came back to it. But all in all, the software update seemed to do exactly what it was supposed to

Now, six months later, I just got in my car after work and all the exact same engine error messages, including the 4000 RPM limit, popped up. And sure enough, it is limp mode all over again.

Has anybody else heard of this happening again after receiving the official software update fix already? Anybody else in the same boat? I'm pretty upset. I'll be honest, if the next few years just mean the shop messing around and eventually installing a software update every six months, I am going to be losing my mind. The car is great otherwise, but it's hard to justify if this keeps happening

anyways, let me know, please, if anybody else has experienced a recurrence of this particular issue. Thanks!

"OIL CONSUMPTION INHIBITOR" with oil change?

I need an oil change but my usual go to is booking over a month out, so I was looking at the dealer. Their standard oil change includes adding an "oil consumption inhibitor."

I've not seen that mentioned in any of the VW subs I'm in. Is this a real thing that will help, or just snake oil?

Soo I’ve had some misfire issues with my 2020 Tiguan and took it too VW and after extended diagnosis & $600 fee they still couldn’t figure it out. They said the suspect it could be an O2 sensor but they are not a 100 percent sure. They Quoted me $1200 to replace the sensor!! Am I the only one who thinks that’s outlandish.

Does more frequent oil changes help?

I have a 22 that seems to be getting hit with the oil consumption issue this year - needing a quart every 1000-1200 miles. Smoke on some startups etc.. I noticed that after I had an oil change it didn’t seem to be as bad right after.
Does a more frequent oil change (3k vs 10km etc) help at all with the issue or it doesn’t matter?

2017 Tiguan Highline R-Line

Hey everyone,

Just had a question for anyone who has the 2017 Tiguan R line. Looking at one for about 15k CAD, has a clean record on carfax with 100,000km on it.

Just curious for those out there who have one, what are your thoughts? How expensive is it for daily use? Any concerns? Any pros that outweigh cons? I’ve been scouring the internet and can’t seem to find anything to help solidify my choice. Wanting to put 12k down on it but am hesitant as the car salesman said they can’t inspect the Timing-Chain and all the top maintenance items.

Am happy to hear all opinions on it!

Is my 2026 Tiguan transmission normal?

2026 Tiguan Comfortline, ~3,500 km, no mods.

In September at ~1,500 km I got “Transmission in emergency mode” + yellow gear icon when shifting to Reverse. Harsh jerky shifts on the way home, then CEL on. After restart it drove normally, CEL cleared after ~15 km.

Dealer scanned it, opened a tech ticket, waited for VW techline, checked the transmission. No parts replaced.

Still happening now:

- light jerks on low gears (1-2-3)

- sometimes a click + jolt when shifting into Reverse

Anyone with a 2025-2026 Tiguan (8-speed auto) had the same? What did your dealer find / fix — software update?

Thanks!

2016 Tiguan

EDIT: got the tensioner checked, chain looks fine. Either im anxious or its some random shit.

hello, attached is a noise I noticed on my 2016 Tiguan. I swear it’s new but maybe I’m just an idiot. shes due for an oil change in 2k miles, and I’ve doing them routinely every 5k for the past year or so (although this has not always been the case).

waterpump was replaced at 88k. total miles now 107,538.

could it just be direct injection?

2009 Tiguan check engine light not working (other lights on cluster are fine)

Friends, I'm trying to sell my 09 Tiguan and took it to get a smog test. Smog guy tells me check engine light doesn't come on when you start the car. All the other warning lights pop up when you turn the key *except* the check engine light. HELP! Anyone else had this issue? How did you solve it? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Tires

My dumb ass hit my rear tire off a curb taking a turn too sharp this morning. I took it to my dealer because it deflated, but I didn't see any tears or punctures along the wall and could feel air escaping from where the rim met the tire. Guy at the dealer told me I'd need a whole new tire and indicated "excessive wear" along the walls closer to the edge of the tire. But he pointed it out on the inner side of the tire, not the outer side that actually hit the curb? And it's a 2026 Tiguan with 2700 miles, what do you mean my tire has signs of excessive wear?

Am I being strung along by a dealer I already find shady?

I did not get a new tire from them this morning and have been pricing replacements, but if all I need to do is get the tire reseated/resealed (Idk, I'm not a mechanic) then I'm not buying a new tire if I don't need to.

Update: The tire wall was torn less than an inch. I understand how I missed it at 6:30am with no sun up. However, my faith in the dealership has somehow sunk lower. They had the full benefit of daylight and missed the wall tear, insisting instead on excessive wear on tires they just sold me 2 months ago. Also found a tire at a local mechanic for about $50 for the same brand at this shoddy dealer.
