Hello. I own a T490, and I have an issue that persists across Window, AND Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS. Basically, the wifi will REFUSE to connect, as there's been an authentication failure. I've come here to post my full writeup of the issue, and wondering if anyone here has had the same issue or not.
So far, I've tried:
Deleting connection profile and reconnecting manually - 4/10 (you get lucky)
Rebooting - 2/10 rarely works if ever
Restarting the Network Manager and drivers - 0/10 never worked
Reinstalling drivers such as IWLWIFI - 1/10 won't persist/survive reboot
Using other drivers - 1/10 doesn't work/breaks everything
Using wifi-kick - 5/10 CAN work, sometimes the issue wants to be really stubborn and still not do it.
Reinstalling my Operating System - 5/10 HAS worked, but obviously this is the LAST thing you want to do. And no guarantee.
This is all on a Thinkpad T490, daily driving Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS. The issue persists across my Windows install as well, which leads me to believe that it's a Hardware issue. As far as I'm aware, this Laptop hasn't experienced any major shock (such as falling from a high surface), and doesn't run hot enough to melt, or sever connections.
Some things I didn't mention in the blog post (that might be relevant here) is that if the computer goes into sleep mode, it usually cripples the WiFi as well. When it's being especially stubborn to my wifi-kick program, a reboot, and retry CAN help, and is somewhat consistent.
The only reason I've not opened the Laptop itself to LOOK at the chip, is because I don't have a small enough screwdriver. And I'm also a broke bitch right now.
