Discussion I made a free, open-source app that makes the Arctis 7+ mix dial work on Windows without SteelSeries GG (vibe coded)
I like my Arctis 7+, but I didn't want GG running all the time just so the game/chat dial works. So I made MixDial, a small tray app that reads the dial straight from the dongle.
Full disclosure: it's vibe coded. I built it with an AI coding assistant rather than writing it by hand. I've been using it daily on my own headset, and the whole thing is a single C# file, so anyone can read exactly what it does.
What it does
- Turning the dial balances chat apps (Discord, TeamSpeak, Teams…) against everything else
- Tray icon shows the current mix, plus an optional popup while you turn the dial
- Battery level and charging state, with low-battery and connect/disconnect notifications
- Pick which apps count as "chat" right from the tray menu
- Start with Windows, and app volumes go back to 100% when you quit
Works with: Arctis 7+, 7P+, 7X+ and 7+ Destiny on Windows 10/11.
How: without GG's virtual audio driver, Windows sees the headset as one output device, so MixDial sets per-app volume instead (same as the Windows Volume Mixer). No driver, no installer, no telemetry. It only reads from the headset and never touches its settings or firmware.
Close GG first if it's running, or the two will fight over app volumes.

The exe isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen will warn the first time (More info → Run anyway). If you'd rather not run an unsigned exe, you can read the source and build it yourself with the compiler that already comes with Windows.
Unofficial and not affiliated with SteelSeries. Feedback and bug reports welcome, especially from 7P+/7X+ owners, since I've only tested it on my own headset.
