Post image
16 Upvotes

One Election Down, One More To Go!

Thankfully you only have to vote for one person in this one!

There are three provincial electoral districts in Prince George:

  • PRM - Prince George-Mackenzie: Includes the Hart, the Heritage neighbourhood, the university and Beaverley if you're north of the highway.
  • PRO - Prince George-North Cariboo: Includes the majority of College Heights and Vanway, and everyone out near Hixon and Stoner.
  • PRV - Prince George-Valemount: Includes Blackburn, Pineview, Downtown and most of the bowl.

See this post for a closer look at actual district borders. Or the official BC Elections map.

There are three provincial parties to choose from in PRM and PRO, and there are four in PRV.

Well, this isn't quite the post I was hoping to write today

Post image
203 Upvotes

First, I want to congratulate everyone who was elected yesterday. Putting your name forward for public office isn't easy, and I wish the Mayor Elect Garth Frizzell and incoming Council nothing but success. When Council succeeds, our community succeeds. Plus, as a resident looking forward to seeing you achieve all your campaign commitments over the next four years (especially with a majority supporting a 0% tax increase 😀)

To the 6,401 people who put their trust in me and marked their ballot beside my name, thank you. This is over 1100 additional people who put their trust in me compared to 2022. While the outcome wasn't what I had hoped for, I'm incredibly grateful for your support and confidence in me. I knew it was going to be a close race and that proved true with less than 300 votes separating 6th place and me in 9th.

For the past 15 years, I've had the incredible privilege of serving our community in elected public office, 12 years as a School District No. 57 Trustee (including 4 years as Board Chair) and most recently the past 4 as a City of Prince George City Councillor.

It's hard to put into words what this experience has meant to me. I was a much (much) younger person when I first put my name forward. Since then, I've grown as a leader, become a husband and father, and learned more about myself and this community than I ever could have imagined.

I've had the opportunity to work alongside incredible people, advocate for issues that matter, be part of some difficult decisions, and hopefully make a positive difference in the community I call home.

Public service isn't always easy. I've certainly made mistakes along the way, and I know not everyone has agreed with every decision I've made. But I've always tried to approach the work with an open mind, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to making the best decisions I could with the information available.

I'm proud of what I've been able to contribute, but more than anything, I'm grateful. Grateful for the relationships, the opportunities, the lessons, and the many people who have helped shape my perspective along the way.

I want to give a special thank you to my campaign team, Jane, Bailey and Nicole. I can't begin to express how much I appreciate the time, energy and effort you put into this campaign. From the planning and organizing to the countless conversations, late nights and everything in between, you gave so much of yourselves to support me. You reminded me to stay true to my values and take the high road, even when others didn't. Having people who believe in you enough to give up their own time and energy is humbling. I'm incredibly lucky to have had you in my corner, and I hope you know how much your friendship and support mean to me.

To everyone else who volunteered, put up signs, shared posts, offered encouragement, donated, or simply stopped me for a conversation, thank you. Whether you supported me during this campaign or at any point along the way, please know how much it has meant.

Most importantly, I want to thank family. Public service comes with sacrifices, and the reality is that those sacrifices are often felt most by the people at home. There have been countless meetings, late nights, weekends away, missed dinners and moments when my attention was divided between my responsibilities to our community and my responsibilities as a husband and dad.

Carli, thank you for being my biggest supporter, my sounding board, and the person who has stood beside me through the highs and lows. You've carried more than your fair share over the years, and I know I couldn't have done any of this without you.

Ryan, Ian, Finnegan, and Maggie, thank you for sharing your dad with the community. You may not fully understand all of this right now, but I hope one day you'll look back and know that I did it because I believe in the importance of giving back and trying to make the world around us a little better. I'm looking forward to a few more evenings and weekends together.

Prince George is home. It's where I grew up, where I'm raising my family, and where I continue to believe our best days are ahead.

While this chapter of my public service journey is coming to an end in a couple of weeks, my commitment to Prince George isn't. There are so many incredible people and organizations doing important work in our community, and I look forward to finding new ways to contribute.

When I first put my name forward, I did so because I believed I could make a difference. In two weeks I will leave elected office with that same belief in the importance of showing up, getting involved, and doing our share of the work for the betterment of our community.

Thank you, Prince George. It has truly been an honour and privilege.

Just felt it was worth sharing. I was at Yu's campaign HQ when the results came in, and his reaction was very positive. He came to Frizzell's campaign fairly soon afterward and congratulated him and told him he was the right person for the job.

Part time house cleaning and assistant needed

Hello all,

I was just curious if anyone here had any experience with someone or a company that helps out with house cleaning and other types of services like that?

I work out of town and my wife also works part time. We have two children who take up most of her time day to day, as well as a dog that also loves her attention all day as well.

I am trying to see if I can help lighten the stress and load for my wife as it is starting to become overwhelming for her at times (and I absolutely hate seeing her feel this way.)

I was just curious anyone had someone help out with this sort of thing before? What did the pricing look like?

Things would include:

- Helping with laundry (wash, dry, fold, iron)
- cleaning one small bathroom
- vacuuming
- kitchen cleanup
- 3 small bedrooms
- washing floors

Looking for maybe once a week. Did you pay the person / company by the hour? By the day? Did they bring all of their own supplies?

Just looking for now and weighing out options. But if anyone could shed some light on this that would help out a lot.

Thanks all!

If they didn't run for council but ran for mayor, and didn't win. Are they still apart of council?

Just wondering because the news doesn't list all councilors that are being voted in and only two that got dropped due to lack of votes.

Theres a couple many do not like, soo... is this happy news or are we going to have to hear about their bigotry views in the news some more?

Feeling bored

Hey PG! 26M here, fairly new to the area and living on my own. Being a bit of an introvert, making friends in a new city takes some extra effort, so I’m stepping out of my comfort zone!
I’m looking to meet friendly people for low-key hangs-coffee, walking local trails, or just enjoying quiet community events. I’d love to connect with welcoming folks or female friends who appreciate a gentle, genuine friendship. Feel free to say hi

City Election - Last Minute Undecided Voter Info/Resource Dump

Alright look - you didn't make it to advance voting, and it's too late for a mail-in ballot. The only way you're voting in this municipal election is Saturday, October 17, at one of these eight locations between 8 am and 8 pm. Bring two pieces of ID that show your name address and signature.

This has NOTHING to do with the provincial election, that's next week. I'll start posting stuff about our districts on Sunday.

Below is everything I can find that you can try to cram into your brain today to make an informed choice tomorrow.

You pick a maximum of one mayor, eight councillors and five school trustees.

If you pick one trustee and nothing else, that's a valid ballot.

If you pick two councillors and nothing else, that's a valid ballot.

If you pick one mayor, four councillors and no trustees, that's a valid ballot.

If you pick two mayors OR nine councillors OR six trustees, you're done, get out, no democracy for you.

If you have links you want included in this post body, comment them below or DM me.

Now look,

It's gonna be busy on Saturday. Last election, 77% of people voted on election day instead of in advance or by mail-in. Get there early, be ready to wait a little, be nice to the election workers.

Results will be available on the City of PG Website, City of PG Facebook Page, Civicinfo.bc.ca and here on this subreddit, probably last. They're aiming for 9PM Saturday night for the results, but the deadline is actually a few days later, Oct. 21, it will be weird if it takes that long.

You don't have to know everything about every candidate, but you should know as much as possible about the plans and views on policy of the people you're voting for. So use the links above, ask questions in this post or make your own post, and make an informed decision on Saturday.

Pick the best mayor, the best eight councillors, and the best five trustees.

Good luck, we're all counting on you.

Additional Clarity On "Whistleblower" drama

  1. The mayor IS part of council. In BC, council = the mayor plus the councillors. So the confidentiality rules for council members apply to the mayor too. When the new policy says "City Council," that includes the mayor (Yu says he recused himself from those closed meetings because he'd spent his own money).

  2. Community Charter s.117: council members must keep confidential city matters private unless council authorizes release. Courts have said this can cover confidential info obtained outside closed meetings, and they give council the benefit of the doubt in deciding whether a disclosure was a breach.

  3. City Whistleblower Policy (revised Feb 23, 2026):

- Complaints about the City Manager now go jointly to the Corporate Officer and City Council, and are handled in-camera.

- Information is shared only with those investigating or addressing the report.

- Disclosing covered information to the media or social media "may be regarded as Serious Misconduct."

  1. Yu says he asked council to approve spending on the investigation and a majority voted no. I haven't seen it confirmed whether that request was to reimburse the roughly $25K he'd already paid himself.

Still unknown: whether this complaint was even about the City Manager, whether the February rules apply to a complaint made under the old policy, and whether sharing letters from a lawyer he paid personally (names withheld) counts as a breach. Nobody has ruled on that yet.

The policy is public: https://www.princegeorge.ca/sites/default/files/2026-02/POLICY_-_OFFICIAL_-_Whistleblower_Policy_2026-02-23.pdf

Wedding Ceremony Recs

I’m getting married in Sept and am having trouble finding a ceremony location. The winery is bit more expensive than I had planned. I heard Willow gardens is closing after November. I already have a reception location booked. Where are some other places to recommend? I’m hoping to book somewhere that provides an arch and chairs.

URGENT HELP NEEDED!

UPDATE: JOB DONE!

Thank you so much to the individuals that generously took time out of their day to assist with this urgent request!

And thank you to everyone who responded!

UPDATE:
We have one person confirmed now and just need one more confirmed. If an extra body or two show up that’s also great, makes the work so much faster!

We need help removing furniture from an apartment near 15th and Irwin. The items include two couches, two dressers, a deep freeze, two china cabinets, and a king-size bed. The job must be done before 4pm Friday, October 16th.

They do have a truck and trailer available but need help loading and unloading. We’re looking for 2 people.

This is a deceased estate with limited financial assistance available, but we can contribute a small amount. Everything except the deep freeze and china cabinets will be taken to the dump.

P.S. I’m writing on behalf of an elderly, recently widowed lady who’s been a good family friend for many years. She urgently needs help tomorrow, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Payment isn’t much available, but she’ll always repay the favour in the future.

BONUS: Two free dance lessons with Dance PG!

Some clarity on the city’s Whistleblower Policy “Drama.”

I’ve been asked to share this as a separate post after sharing as a comment. There is a lot of discourse going on right now about what Mayor Yu has shared in the news.

It’s not that he believes we should be discussing the details about the specific whistleblower. He is publicizing concerns about how council removed protections for anonymous whistleblowers in city policy AND did not ensure protection against conflict of interest for those investigating report from said whistleblower.

Mayor Yu adhered to and followed existing policy related to whistleblowing and brought it to council. Council responded by making changes to the policy to prohibit anonymous complaints. They also removed pathways for the mayor to receive concerns, which in the context of the specific complaint being referred to was imperative as the other role outlined in the policy was vacant AND other city administrators were involved in the complaint (conflict of interest).

Here is a quote from today’s article. “In February of this year, after the whistleblower came forward, city council voted to revise the whistleblower policy to remove the option of reporting to the mayor and to prohibit anonymous complaints, among other changes.”

For comparison sake, the provincial government has a specific act to protect public sector employees in whistleblowing situations called the Public Disclosure Interest Act and specifically has pathways to support anonymous disclosure. So our brilliant council took steps to distance themselves from best practices and legislation that is implemented for provincial employees.

Let that sink in. Our council has removed pathways that are protected BY LAW for provincial and public sector employees, reducing the protections and rights for municipal employees seeking to ensure ethical practices and service delivery within our municipal government.

Here is the link to today’s article: https://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/local-news/yu-spent-at-least-25k-to-investigate-whistleblower-complaint-12892463

Our council is either uninformed of best practices and provincial benchmarks or feels a separate (and lower) standard is acceptable for our city. NOT ok but par for the course of Canada’s most secretive city council.

Yu drops confidential information and is now preventing other councillors from disclosing other relevant information. It felt fishy yesterday and smells worse today.
