Politics r/Phoenix politics rule reminder

With the election coming up I want to refresh some of our rules around political posts and content.

Rules for Posting Politics

We have a zero tolerance approach for violating these rules. So if you're not sure, DM us before you post.

  • Political posts and comments are limited to regular users with positive karma in this subreddit.
  • Political posts must be related to Phoenix or Arizona directly. Take general issues to other subs.
  • You must flair it Politics if it is at all related to politics, including protests, actions of elected officials, hot topics like immigration or homelessness, and so on. If in doubt, ask the mods. If you post a political topic and don't flair it Politics you will be banned.
  • Do not post political comments in a non-political post. Do not turn an unrelated post political for your own amusement.
  • Be civil to each other. Debate ideas and discuss news, do not attack other users.
  • Report trolls to the mods, do not respond to them.
  • Do not advocate violence. This is a Reddit level rule and a way to get your entire account disabled, not just banned from this subreddit.
  • No doxxing. This refers to individuals appearing in posts here. This no longer applies if someone is named by a major news organization.

What counts as "Politics" in r/phoenix ?

Anything related to actions from a government or public agency. This includes city, state, and Federal agencies, and all laws and policies they control. So this includes elections, immigration, reproductive rights, military action, data centers, water rights, and so on.

This includes actions by Homeland Security, the FBI, and ICE. Given the current state of things, this also includes actions by all police and law enforcement agencies.

It also covers protests and all action against all the agencies listed above.

This is to clarify how we define it for the purpose of managing content in this subreddit. We're not trying to arbitrate semantics with all that's going on.

Election / voting / proposition posts

We have an election megathread pinned, which is the default place for questions you have about any of the local elections, proposition questions, and so on.

We will approve new posts about the election if the topic is unique or has good information. We are looking to strike a balance between the megathread and updated info as the election get closer.

If we remove a post of yours you can DM the moderators and ask about it. I also suggest visiting r/azpolitics if you want a more ongoing political discussion.

We are happy to explain why these rules are in place, but they will not be changing. These rules are here to preserve this subreddit as a valuable place for active members to have the discussions they wish. If you do not care for these rules, do not post here.

What's Happening? WTH is going on with Fry's and Cost??

I get that food and grocery costs have been out of control, but it's actually absurd at Fry's now. Fry's is close to where I live, so it's always been my "default" grocery store. I haven't run reports on whether this is isolated to Fry's or not, but goodness, it's getting dethroned easily by other places (Aldi's, WinCo, Costco etc.) for us.

Again, I get that prices have gone up, but I suspect Fry's increase is more than others that I've checked. If Fry's is this absurd, I don't even want to know what's going at with Safeway lol. Honestly, maybe the gap between Safeway and Fry's is closed now, I'll have to check.

Sounds like they're either parked or they aren't going far- have been hearing it in the distance for like half an hour.

Moving here Does anyone have any advice for finding our old teachers? (90's Encanto/Clarendon)

I had a teacher in the 90's who I really adored and 30 years later I'm still thinking about her. She was my teacher at either Encanto or Clarendon Elementary (both Osborne schools). She had hair down the length of her back and always wore a headband. I'm pretty certain of the schools because I'm sure we were living at Park Lee at that time and sometimes we would run into her in the neighborhood. I understand the possibility that she may have passed by now, but it's also possible that she's in her 70's or 80's and still living. I'm really hoping I can find her and either tell her or her family how much she meant to me. I am planning to call the district office tomorrow to see if they maintain these old records. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Moving here Free/low-cost events on Halloween catered more towards adults but aren't completely centered around drinking?

Looking for something to do on Halloween. I normally go to a friend's party but it sounds like they're unable to host one this year, and my apartment is too small for me to host. I'm 23, I don't drink or smoke, but I'm fine being around it as long as it's not the entire point of the event (like a bar crawl or something). My costume is a little... Mature, though. I know there's a few different farms doing things but I don't think I want to wear something suggestive and revealing around a family friendly environment.

Preferably in the east valley since that's where I live and preferably something I can access via public transport, not too comfortable driving around Phoenix on a big drinking night.

Living Here Palm golf cart on Camelback

• Upvotes

I daily drive camelback and always smiled when passing the house with the golf cart on top of the palm. Looked forward to the Halloween decorations but sadly seems the cart is gone? A very niche relic I always enjoyed on my drive

General Can your employer ghost you?

I started a new job at a recreational facility, and it seemed like everything was going well, I just was doing desk and janitor duties. Anyways, one week I didn’t get hours, and asked my manager for some. He said he’s been so busy he didn’t see that I wasn’t on the schedule. well next week comes and I’m not on the schedule. I message again asking to be put on the schedule, to no response. I message again, nothing. I go in person, my manager says he got a new phone and his messages aren’t coming in, but asks me to send my preferred schedule via email. I do so, and he replies he got it. Next week I am not on the schedule. I message asking for more hours. Next week, not on the schedule, and I look at the work group chat and I’ve been removed from it by my manager.

i messaged him asking what I did, but to no surprise, no response. can people fire you by ghosting? Surely they have to send a written notice in AZ?

edit: I looked on Facebook and found 2 posts from my manager this month in local groups, saying that they are looking for someone to hire for a Front Desk position (the job I had). So that’s cool.

What's Happening? Cave Creek School District Safety Failure

It has been over a month and parents still have not been given any information about the gun on campus 9-11-26 with a student that had a hit list. The admins never even called the police, never called a lockdown and didn't notify parents until two days later-even hosting a football game that night when the campus hadn't been cleared by police. The administrators that failed our kids have had no disciplinary consequences and the student withdrew to avoid consequences. This district is in ruins. When does the state takeover to protect the students?

Utilities Spectrum is throttling my internet

Years ago with Cox, I qualified for the connect2compete program, So internet has been $10 a month for me for at least a decade, and was lucky enough that they never asked for any follow-up documentation to prove that I still qualify, so I've been staying off of Cox's radar as best I can

Now that spectrum has taken over, the first bill under spectrum went through last week, and I have never experienced my Internet being so slow... I thought there was something wrong with my computer. Ran all the updates, even got with my work's IT department, and it is definitely internet speed

Anyway, looking to switch ISP's. Going to lose my smoking deal, but this is affecting my productivity at work. Any recommendations? Might just do starlink so that way I can be portable

Things To Do Good Halloween Spots?

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi guys, I’m wondering what are great areas for an adult to spend Halloween with friends this year? Historically, we’d like to go bar-hopping along Mill Ave, but sadly it really seems like Mill has fallen off in recent history as a fun space for adult shenanigans (correct me if I’m wrong, I wanna be wrong!)

So I’d like to know if there are any other Mill analogues that would give us the same experience we had in DT Tempe for years? Grand Ave and Roosevelt come to mind, but I’ve never actually been out there on Halloween. Thanks 🙏

Edit: My friends and I are all 28, if that narrows down the vibe we’re looking for.

Sports LGBT basketball groups

I live a bit outside of Phoenix, but I’ve been trying to build up a bit more of a gay community. I would like to find a regular basketball group, but I’m having trouble finding some sort of gay league. Does anyone by any chance know of one or have any advice?

Ask Phoenix EV owners and Clean Freak membership

It seems like Cleank freak’s scanners don’t like EVs.
I’ve had my barcode sticker replaced 3 times and it didn’t get recognized once. They eventually gave me the sticker taped to a gift card that I now wave outside my window so it gets recognized.

According to one of their attendance, this is a common issue with EVs. Apparently the car electronics interfere with their RFID signal.

Anyone else had this issue with their Ev?

Ask Phoenix Looking for the thin Dos Ranchitos tortilla chips from Food City

Post image
38 Upvotes

Has anyone seen these tortilla chips at any Food City (or similar ones at another store) in the valley lately? Obsessed with them but it seems like in the last year or so I can only find the thicker, darker ones. Have been to 3 different locations (El Mirage, north phx, and McDowell/24th St) in the last few months with no luck. Used to get them from the McDowell location all the time… hoping they are out there somewhere!

Referral Car audio Volkswagen id4

I have a 2023 id4 and the stock sound system is garbage compared to my Tesla.

Is there a shop that can upgrade the speakers and add a subwoofer?

Thanks
