Meta Quick rule reminder and update for r/Arizona

Wanted to give a reminder and quick update on a few rules.

Picture posts need a location and a description. Doesn't have to be an exact address, but generally what part of Arizona it was taken in. This has been a rule for ages and was suggested by users to help combat picture spam ("Wow, check this out!") and balance the many weather and sunset pictures we get flooded with. Plus it helps people know WTF your post is about.

When we get a ton of posts on one topic we'll make a megathread and try to bring the conversation together. Don't take it personal. I know some people love a million pictures about monsoons or sunsets, but many don't and let us know all about it. A megathread is the compromise. We don't do it often, so please just use it the few times we do.

Any political posts (or politic adjacent, like Flock cameras and Data Centers) needs to be flared Politics and are limited to established users here. This combats trolls and bots.

Recommendations for local businesses are better suited for your local subreddits like [r/Phoenix](r/Phoenix), [r/Tucson](r/Tucson), or [r/Flagstaff](r/Flagstaff). The exception are posts about things to do and places to eat that may be of interest to other Arizonans traveling around the state. Roofing companies, massage places, and thrift stores are more of a local thing.

Posts shaming or calling out people or businesses are not welcome here. I get the desire for a good witch hunt, but it's too prone to hurting innocent people. News stories about issues are fine, this is just about posting pictures of people who pissed you off or a business that made you nasty cupcakes. We've covered this policy a lot but there has been a bunch of these lately. Maybe it's the heat making everyone cranky. Either way, this subreddit isn't your personal attack dog.

If you have any questions, ask away.

Politics Arizona 2026 Proposition + Election Discussion

Election day is coming up, so we're creating a discussion thread for questions about the propositions or other items on ballots across the state.

You are welcome to share your views on any of the issues or candidates across the state.

Here are some links you might find useful:

Voting information for AZ

Also, check out the r/Tucson 2026 Election Megathread

If you have other links or info, leave them in the comments. We may add them to the original post.

Keep in mind that our political rules are in full force here, so only regular members to this subreddit will be able to comment. And any personal attacks on other users will result in a ban.

The purpose of this thread to to create a civil space to discuss the elections and trolls, fear mongering, or comments that offer little or no value will be removed.

Above all VOTE!

Living Here Unemployment, requirements are... extremely strict?

Hi all,

Currently unemployed, and I started the process of filing for unemployment.

Going through the rules, they are absolutely insane. I work in a rather specialized field.

You need to make 4 contacts per week, that you need to fill out in a very strict form (address / zip code etc). I've had contacts with former colleagues & recruiters that I don't even have this information of. Or they might not want to speak on the record for this.

Not to mention, I'm in a specialized field, and having 4 contacts / week is ... unreasonable. There aren't 4 jobs / week popping up in my field.

But it gets worse... after 4 weeks of being on unemployment you can be denied unemployment if you refuse a job that pays 120% of the weekly benefit amount.

The weekly benefit amount is $320, so refusing a job offering $384 / week (or $9.6 / hour) makes it fair game for them to deny you unemployment.

Living in Phoenix, taking a job that pays $384 / week wouldn't even pay the rent, and taking the job would actually be worse because then future employers are wondering why I took this job?

Thoughts?

Weather Anyone have photos of damage from the tornados today?

One of the large reasons I love AZ is because of the lack of natural disasters so today was surprising. Haven’t seen photos come through of damage yet though.

EDIT: Was expecting terrible weather in Queen Creek last night after hearing about how terrible it was in northern AZ all day. We didn’t get a single drop of rain where I live. Even checked cameras to make sure😳

I am an official Arizonan now ! My husband made me this meme after I was stung by an Arizona bark scorpion in my living room last Friday. Thought the rest of the transplants to Arizona would get a kick out of it.

Living Here Any decent SMI designated clinics in the valley?

Im struggling with finding a clinic who has competent psychiatrists, i used to have a nice one but after getting my SMI assessment, i can only go to SMI designated clinics for help.

Im wondering if theres any decent ones in the valley with good doctors, the ones i keep getting dont understand my condition, doubt me and the medications i take, and try to force more pills down my throat despite repeatedly telling them i dont need or want more. I just want a psychiatrist that doesn't make me cry and frustrated after every visit. Anything helps.

Moving here Purpose of garage vents?

Post image
0 Upvotes

We just closed on a house that has a 3 car tandem garage. There are these two vents going to the side yard an upper and lower.

Is there a code purpose for these vents? I thought maybe it was for the gas water heater in the garage but my two car garage at my old house had the same water heater with no vents.

Is this simply for circulation? The garage came with a mini split and as you can see those vents allow a lot of dirt into the garage so if it’s not code I’d like to seal them up.

Thanks!
