General Sedona FAQ's

Please, read and review our FAQ before posting

Where to eat:

Best of town - Elote, Mariposa, Shorebird, The Vault, The Hudson, Molé

Also recommended - Dahl and Deluca (Italian), The Vault, The Hudson, Piccazzo’s (vegetarian/gluten free), Chocolate Tree (vegan), Open Range Grill (views), Indian Garden (OKC), Sedona Beer Co, Mesa Grill (views), Colt Grill (BBQ, brisket)

Cheaper side - Nicks, Filiberto’s (fast food), Jay Birds (hot chicken)

Where to stay:

Best of town - La’beurge, Amara, Ambiante

Also recommended: Los Abrigados, The Wild Inn, Adobe Grand Villas, A Sunset Chateu, Sedona Real

Not ethically - Enchantment , Air BnB’s

Where should I hike - is mostly a question that requires a lot of input and nuance. There are no *must see*’s

Easy: Secret Slick Rock, Marg’s Draw, Fay Canyon, Yavapai Vista, Sugarloaf Vista loop

Moderate (subjective) - Mescal (in and out), Little Horse, Doe Mountain , Yavapai Vista area,

Baldwin to Tempelton (in and out, water), Huckaby (same, views of town)

More difficult - Hangover Loop, Bear Mountain, Wilson Mountain

Recommended Resources - 1L per hour, FIrst aid, Navigation, snacks, appropriate footwear, moleskine

Not Recommended - Devil’s Bridge. Expect to wait in line up to hours to take on of the most captured pictures of Sedona

Do Not - Follow social trails found on AllTrails. Many listed popular sites are NOT sanctioned Forest Service Trails. As a result, ancient archeology dating to the 1200s is being destroyed every day. Includes: Subway Cave (not a cave), Birthing Cave (also not a cave).

Note - When stepping on Sedona trails, you accept that you may encounter animals. Mule Deer and Javelina are prominent, and expect to see dogs. Regardless of opinion, some dogs will be off leash, most often in less traveled areas. This is not a reason to not leash your dog. If you cannot hold your palm on the ground for 10 seconds, it's too hot for your dogs paws

Traffic: Traffic is unpredictable. During the spring, it can take hours to get from the Village of Oak Creek to West Sedona. The room rates will indicate the demand, and parallel the traffic.

When to travel: Slowest times of the year are Jan-Feb, Early December, Early September. The summer is very slow for good reason

Where to drive: Jerome (town on a cliff, wineries), Williams (train to the GC), Flagstaff (Oak Creek Canyon drive)

Things to do:

Hike (guided hikes are also a great way to learn about local history and flora/fauna)

Shop (uptown is great walking, Tlaqupaque has great shops too)

Visit satellite cities (Jerome, Flagstaff)

Sedona History Museum

Palaki/Honanki Heritage sites (ancient history)

Wine Tours

Jeep Tours

Center for the New Age (spirituality and alike)

Weather Sedona in January

Going to Sedona in January; do not know what to expect; my biggest concern is the driving thing as I am not used to drive with winter conditions.

Appreciate if you can give me your thoughts.

Google maps says the 19 minute route has "private or restricted roads". Does anyone know if this is actually true?

Weather Weather next week?

Hi! We are planning a visit from California for the 21-24 of October but weather is showing rain and thunder… our hotel told us folks were rescued a week or so ago since they crossed a wash, rain came and then helicopter had to take them out. He added that the weather for next week looks similar…

Since our plan for this trip was to hike every day, go to the pool, and maybe do a day trip to the Grand Canyon, should we reconsider and try to come another time? We don’t want to pay for flight, car, hotel to be inside but also know weather can change. If we cancel, has to be by end of day tomorrow, 10/18 (Sunday).

My friend and I are visiting Sedona for 3 night next month. We’d like to fit in at least one excursion! We are cool with spiritual stuff and hiking etc. I was interested in going to the wolf sanctuary. Is the wolf sanctuary worth it?

Living Here Sauna Electrician

Have a new sauna that needs the electrical hookups - nothing fancy, the heater, the lighting, a fan, the Wifi controller. Have been unable to find a licensed electrician with experience doing sauna electrical installs - I have one that says they have some experience but it wasn't convincing. I've had 2 that said they could do it but then said they didn't have the experience/expertise. Any recommendations appreciated.

Visiting ? Itinerary feedback: late October with 80y/o grandmother

My partner and I (late 20s/early 30s) are taking my grandmother (80) on a road trip from Phoenix to Sedona, Grand Canyon, and Page. She's pretty mobile and typically walks 2-3 miles daily, though long flights of stairs can be challenging. Looking for feedback on our itinerary, also open to senior-friendly suggestions. Day 3 involves a bit of driving, but we'll use Tesla self-driving for most of it.

Day 1 (weekday): Phoenix -> Sedona

  • Drive Phoenix -> Sedona via Red Rock Scenic Byway (AZ-179)
    • Stop at Montezuma Castle National Monument on the way
  • Chapel of the Holy Cross
  • Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village
    • Lunch at Javelina Cantina
  • Sunset: Airport Scenic Overlook

Day 2 (weekday): Classic Sedona

  • Courthouse Butte and Bell Rock Loop
  • Uptown Sedona
  • OPTIONAL: Sedona Artist Market
  • Turquoise McDonald's arches
  • Lunch picnic at Crescent Moon Ranch
  • Lover's Knoll
  • Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park

Day 3 (weekday): Sedona -> Grand Canyon South Rim -> Page:

  • Drive Sedona -> Grand Canyon South Rim via AZ-89A
  • GCNP sign
  • Mather Point
  • Yavapai Point + Geology Museum
  • Lunch: Harvey House Cafe
  • Grand Canyon Village: Lookout Studio, Kolb Studio, El Tovar, Hopi House
  • OPTIONAL: Hopi Point
  • Sunset at Desert View
  • Drive to Page

Day 4 (weekday): Antelope Canyon + Horseshoe Bend

  • Upper Antelope Canyon tour with ___?
  • Shell Gas Station Sand Cave

Visiting ? Visiting Sedona, how busy are trailheads throughout the day?

Hello, my husband and I are visiting Sedona midway through November. I have read that you should get to the trailheads for popular trails before sunrise. Do the parking lots stay that busy all day or is it just in the mornings it gets busy?

I guess I am wondering if we go to do a hike later in the day (say around 3pm) with the parking lots still be full? Everything I keep reading is making me a little paranoid about parking haha any help would be appreciated!

Visiting ? Sedona with a 6 month old

Hello taking a trip to Sedona in mid November with our baby who will be almost 6 months old at that time. What are some recommendations for hiking trails that are doable with an infant in a baby carrier? Or any great sight seeing places with the views. I would love to do devils bridge but from what I’ve seen the last half mile to get to the scenic point is a bit harder

Visiting ? Sedona in early December with 3 year old and 20 month old. What are the must do hikes and other activities?

I know there have been lots of posts asking about hikes and activities for kids but I would love specific advice about our trip! We will be in Sedona for 5 days December 5-10. How are the crowds that time of year? Also would love recs for hikes, the younger one will be in a carrier most of the time and the 3 year old will likely be in and out of his carrier depending on the terrain and his mood lol.

Looking for anything from short little jaunts to up to a half day ish in length. Easy to moderate preferred but short strenuous hikes or sections are fine! Also if there are any fun Xmas events for kids would love to know about those too! And any other fun sightseeing stops or places that kids that toddlers would enjoy!

Visiting ? Windy forecast

Seeing gusts up to 32 on Thursday and Friday. I’ve never been there when it’s particularly windy but feel like a lot of the hikes would be sheltered by the canyons etc., depending on the direction of the wind.

This is probably an impossible question to answer, but should I push back my trip or will the hikes be unpleasant (especially for my 13 year old) because of the wind?? Are there maybe a couple areas that might be less affected?

Please predict exactly where the wind will be haha

Visiting ? The Wilde vs. Amara vs. Hilton Bell Rock, which one?

Staying for 2-nights in Sedona and want something that is premium, doesn't need to be over the top luxury. I really wanted to stay at the L'Auberge De Sedona so badly since price wasn't an issue, everything looked good but it was sold out. Enchantment is also sold out but didn't look super impressive.

I'm looking for a nice, modern hotel option with a good location and great cleanliness. I looked at these three as Wilde and Hilton are at "Entry-Level/Accessible" luxury while Amara is more mid-scale, boutique luxury.

Staying with a teen. So far Hilton Bell Rock looks to have the best activities but the rooms look dated. Amara is the most expensive but despite the prime location doesn't look too impressive compared to the rooms at The Wilde. The Wilde looks to be the most modern but just concerned of the overall experience as I've heard its pretty average and is hit or miss.

Room Types + Prices:
Hilton Sedona at Bell Rock - 1 King Bed Suite: $1,351 for 2-nights including taxes and fees

The Wilde Resort & Spa Sedona - 2 Queen Bed Grove Room: $988 for 2-nights including taxes and fees

Amara Resort & Spa Sedona - 1 King Bed Patio Room: $1,498 for 2-nights including taxes and fees OR 2 Queen Bed Standard Room: $1,698 including taxes and fees. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Visiting ? Resort with best views

Hello- so thankful to everyone here with the insider knowledge of Sedona. I’ve never been but planning to come for a weekend with my husband for a milestone bday after a hard year.

Hoping to stay at a more upscale resort that has the best views from the rooms/pool/etc. Having access to easy hiking trails is a plus! We prob won’t use the spa much so less important. Would really like to relax in a beautiful place without our kids!

Trying to decide whether to come March or May, so if anyone has opinions on that, please let me know! Thanks <3

Looking For Best spiritual experiences for groups?

I’m traveling with a group of friends to Sedona in a few months and we want to plan a spiritual experience during our trip (non drug-related). I’m thinking something that allows us to connect with nature and ourselves.

Does anyone have any recommendations or tips for looking for experiences like this? Thank you!

Weather Arizona Travel February

I plan on visiting Arizona in Mid to Late February 2027. Landing in PHX and was planning on a couple days in Sedona then heading to the Grand Canyon South Rim, and possibly checking out Flagstaff as well. What can I expect weather wise? From what I’ve seen looks like pretty cold temperatures and snow is a real possibility. Would this be a good time to visit still? Thank you

Visiting ? Where to stay for Sedona/Flagstaff for 2-nights?

Flying into PHX on Southwest, then driving south down towards Tucson and staying at Loews Ventana Canyon for 1-night. Ending the trip at Westin Tempe for the final night. I need help picking a hotel, there are three options that I am currently considering right now.

I need a hotel that can serve me 2-nights in either Sedona or Flagstaff, and the purpose of it is to visit Petrified Forest National Park and Sedona. I'm curious to see whether staying in Sedona all together is better versus dividing the trip up in Flagstaff.

Looking for a nice, clean hotel, between the premium and luxury scale for 2-nights. The three hotels and the rooms I've so far have seen (in my budget) are these ones:

  1. Doubletree by Hilton Flagstaff, 1 King Bed 2 Room Presidential Suite: $614 for 2-nights.
  2. The Wilde Resort & Spa, Sedona, 2 Queen Bed Grove Room: $1,179
  3. Hyatt Vacation Club Sedona, 1 Bedroom Villa: $1,179

Which one to pick, any advice truly appreciated :)!

Eat & Drink Restaurant suggestions

Hi all! My wife and I are looking to celebrate our 15th anniversary in Sedona next April. We’re staying uptown and looking to have a nice dinner for our anniversary. I’m not looking for formal but wanting great food, as local as possible with a view and maybe music. We could always go elsewhere for a nightcap with live music. I’d like to be able to walk if possible from Amara but being fair, I don’t really know if places are walkable in Sedona. I’m open for suggestions of any kind. Thank you in advance.

Visiting ? Hiking Recs on Saturday

The forecast shows rain in the morning/late afternoon. I’m hoping to squeeze in a hike after the rain resides in the afternoon.

Do you have any hiking spot recommendations that would be suitable for the post-rain/wet conditions?

My original plan was to hike Cathedral Rock but it may be a bit challenging to convince my SO to climb certain parts of the route…

TIA

General Orchard on Oak Creek canyon

We love to stay at the cabins on this beautiful apple orchard. Dinner is included and a glass of wine. We last stayed here in 2022 or 2023. A night cost $375 .. it’s not $610 a night. So sad! Does anyone know why their prices nearly doubled in just a few years?!
