📰 News CAIR-AZ Welcomes Fountain Hills’ Rejection of Anti-Muslim Ordinance, Applauds Community Mobilization and Council Leadership

CAIR-AZ applauds Councilmembers Brenda Kalivianakis, Peggy McMahon, Ricky Watts, and Mayor Gerry Friedel for their decision not to advance the proposed ordinance. We particularly commend Councilmembers Kalivianakis and McMahon for their strong stance, principled leadership, and willingness to stand up for the rights and dignity of our community.

The council’s decision followed sustained advocacy and community mobilization led by CAIR-AZ. In advance of the meeting, CAIR-AZ issued a community action alert urging Arizonans to contact their elected representatives and oppose the discriminatory proposal. Hundreds of Arizona residents responded by sending letters to the Town Council, while community members and advocates also attended the meeting to deliver public testimony.

Their collective efforts sent a powerful message: religious discrimination has no place in our communities, and elected officials must represent all residents, regardless of their faith.

📸 Photos Camera collector found film in a camera that seems to be of a family from Scottsdale in 2001

To clarify, I am not the person who found the film or developed the photos. I just saw the post online, and it looked very much like North Scottsdale (I know people who live in a very similar house, which is why it was so striking).

They are trying to reconnect this family with their photos.

It's likely Christmastime 2001, and the family / group appears to primarily consist of Indian members, and it looks like they had a pool table right when you walk in the door.

If that sounds like anyone you know, I've included the link here, but I can also share pics if anyone thinks they know them but doesn't have access to Threads.

Text from original post:

Hey threads, i need your help. If you know me, you know i thrift and collect cameras. A little while ago i found one with a finished roll, and finally got it developed. These are pretty old photos; I’m guessing from the 1990s, but would love to get these beautiful photos to the family. Please share and let me know or if you recognize them!

📰 News Rattlesnake Behavior is Shifting in Coming Weeks

Post image
72 Upvotes

A shift is happening with rattlesnake behavior. Here's what will happen in coming weeks.

In Maricopa County, ingress to their selected overwintering sites typically concludes by about the second week of November, unlike Spring emergence, which is a longer process of basking and social behavior that puts them on the surface every day for weeks or more, getting to the den itself is typically less active.

Females and young snakes tend to disappear immediately, likely to avoid burning off the moisture and energy stored throughout the year. Males, especially the larger and older individuals, may continue to bask and conduct social dominance behavior for awhile, before again disappearing to stable, hidden conditions.

For homeowners, this means that the locations where they may be found change dramatically in nature. Unlike pass-through rattlesnake encounters from the Fall, a snake found from November through February is a long-term resident. This also means that these situations are also very fixable. The stable environmental conditions offered by something like an unused wood pile, access under an old shed, or other easy thermostable situation, are very useful. Once the snake is relocated, the homeowner should receive the information about the situation needed to solve the real issue.

🚛 Relocation Question Moving from Midwest

Hey everyone, as the title says I want to move from the Midwest to here mostly to complete my education for flight training.

Before I commit to moving I been trying to find a job. The problem I'm seeing is and I could be wrong but the job market is not as abundant as it is here in the Midwest.
Please recommend me jobs I have experienced in security in government and private sector.

Thank you for your time and response.

🙋 Advice Damage from the storm?

Hey everyone, just curious if there was much widespread damage to property from today’s storm in the Scottsdale area (North Scottsdale specifically). My place is a bit south of the Boulders but I’m up in Flagstaff due to work. I’ve seen posts of what looks like significant vehicle and home damage around the valley and from radar it looks like a large cell went right over my neighborhood. I plan to come down after work this weekend and check things out, but I’m curious what other’s experiences were, thanks.

😤 Rant/Vent Cox outages in South Scottsdale... every..day...

Hello. Title basically says it all. Live in the South Scottsdale Area, specifically around Hayden and McDowell.
Our internet connection for about the last month has basically been out everyday. Some of the days it's out for the entire day.
Literally don't know what to do. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've called countless times and had multiple credits added to my account so my bill has gone down however I need the internet to work as I work from home. Literally just so frustrating, last weekend they told me it's because of the hurricane... ??????????

🏪 Local Business Scottsdale’s The Poisoned Pen welcomes book lovers

Of interest to me:

The Poisoned Pen recently started a horror discussion club and hosts events that serve as a community space for readers to explore different genres and ideas.

“Well, for one thing, it's a great community gathering place. It brings people together,” Peters said.

Elizabeth Rowe, a Glendale resident, drove 30 minutes to The Poisoned Pen to check out the horror book club. She arrived early and decided to sit in on Santlofer’s author event, despite having never heard of him before. After the event, she bought the book and said she looked forward to reading it.

Rowe discovered The Poisoned Pen when she and her family first visited Scottsdale. Since then, she and her husband have continued to seek out local bookstores and author events.

“You may have come for a specific thing, and then you walk out and discover that you actually love horror,” Rowe said.

🙋 Advice Marriot McDowell Mountain

I'm booked there for the WM Open.

Does anyone know if there are restaurants/bars within walking distance?

Also, it looks like it is right on the course. Do they allow direct entry to the tournament(with ticket) like the Princess?

I really appreciate any and all info or suggestions. Trying to avoid car rental if possible. I was hoping to speak to someone directly on property but no luck so far. Thanks!!

💬 Discussion Our experience with Rebound Gymnastics West

Heads-up for Scottsdale parents: our experience with Rebound Gymnastics West

Sharing this so other families know what they're getting into before handing over serious money.

We paid tuition all summer to hold our daughter's spot even though she wasn't attending, plus prepaid competition fees and nearly $900 in uniforms.

When we moved out of state, I asked if we could work out a reasonable partial refund or some kind of compromise. I sent EIGHT emails and got no response. The owner, Tiffany, only replied after I mentioned getting my attorney involved.

She pointed to a contract I supposedly signed — but when I asked for a copy, she couldn't find or produce it. I gave 30 days' notice and ended up canceling my credit card just to make sure the billing stopped. Then she started selling the uniform pieces I'd already paid for, without even asking me.

The coaching situation tells the same story: she can't keep coaches. They're constantly turning over, and from everything I saw, it comes down to how badly the gym is run. Kids can't build any consistency when the staff changes all the time.

I get that businesses have policies. But refusing to communicate, refusing any compromise, and not even being able to produce the contract you're hiding behind isn't policy — it's unprofessional.

For what it's worth, the BBB has them at an F. I would not recommend this gym.

💬 Discussion $500 Spa Day

If you had up to $500 to spend on a Spa Day, where would you choose and why?

I’m open to that $500 being on one treatment or the $500 being spent on multiple. Whatever. Just want to hear your favorite spots you’ve experienced and why.

I am on the permanent early voter list and when I check online it says my ballot was mailed to me 10 days ago. I still have not received my ballot.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Should I be concerned?

How do I remedy this situation?

🚛 Relocation Question Good places to rent

Hello,

I’m an ASU student graduating in the Spring and I recently accepted an offer to join Vanguard in their Scottsdale office starting in the summer. My roommate will be doing nursing stuff at the ASU West Valley campus.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on good places to rent in the $1500-$1800 range (750-900 each between two people) that is in the Scottsdale area/in between Vanguard and West Valley.

Would appreciate any insights on affordable places or places that you’ve had a good experience at/have a good rep.

Thanks🙏
