With the election coming up I want to refresh some of our rules around political posts and content.
Rules for Posting Politics
We have a zero tolerance approach for violating these rules. So if you're not sure, DM us before you post.
- Political posts and comments are limited to regular users with positive karma in this subreddit.
- Political posts must be related to Phoenix or Arizona directly. Take general issues to other subs.
- You must flair it Politics if it is at all related to politics, including protests, actions of elected officials, hot topics like immigration or homelessness, and so on. If in doubt, ask the mods. If you post a political topic and don't flair it Politics you will be banned.
- Do not post political comments in a non-political post. Do not turn an unrelated post political for your own amusement.
- Be civil to each other. Debate ideas and discuss news, do not attack other users.
- Report trolls to the mods, do not respond to them.
- Do not advocate violence. This is a Reddit level rule and a way to get your entire account disabled, not just banned from this subreddit.
- No doxxing. This refers to individuals appearing in posts here. This no longer applies if someone is named by a major news organization.
What counts as "Politics" in r/phoenix ?
Anything related to actions from a government or public agency. This includes city, state, and Federal agencies, and all laws and policies they control. So this includes elections, immigration, reproductive rights, military action, data centers, water rights, and so on.
This includes actions by Homeland Security, the FBI, and ICE. Given the current state of things, this also includes actions by all police and law enforcement agencies.
It also covers protests and all action against all the agencies listed above.
This is to clarify how we define it for the purpose of managing content in this subreddit. We're not trying to arbitrate semantics with all that's going on.
Election / voting / proposition posts
We have an election megathread pinned, which is the default place for questions you have about any of the local elections, proposition questions, and so on.
We will approve new posts about the election if the topic is unique or has good information. We are looking to strike a balance between the megathread and updated info as the election get closer.
If we remove a post of yours you can DM the moderators and ask about it. I also suggest visiting r/azpolitics if you want a more ongoing political discussion.
We are happy to explain why these rules are in place, but they will not be changing. These rules are here to preserve this subreddit as a valuable place for active members to have the discussions they wish. If you do not care for these rules, do not post here.
