Discussion Behold the box of Energels I found for $6.48.
Office Depot got me. My first thought was “wow that’s a good deal on refills.” 😂😂

Did I need new pens? No. But I'm addicted.

I've been learning Japanese recently and needed a pen to write stuff down. I initially wanted to get a parker jotter because my friend had one and it was cool but they sold out and the only things there were the refills. Before my grandad dragged me away to continue with other shopping, I still wanted to get something and I thought this one looked nice. I've used other BIC 4 Colors before and I quite like them. I haven't tried this one up until now and I like this one as well. Obviously this isn't as fancy as the other pens you see here as this one was only £3.50 and can probably be found on the floor at school but that's what I quite like about pens like these for some reason.
(Random thing: My first introduction to 4 color pens was me sneaking into my sister's bag and stealing one. She's a nurse and carries like 10 of them on her.)
Hi!
I’m looking to get a nice, “buy-it-for-life” pen body that can accept Uni’s JetStream 1.0 refills (SXR-10). I’d like it to be something durable, and have a good clip - I have bent and broken so many clips on pens over the years, as I normally carry the pen in my jeans pocket.
A few clips I’ve come across over the years that I really like: hinged clips, such as the Lamy 2000 & CP1, and the Zebra Sharbo. I also like the springy-like ones on the Uniball One & Zento.
I’ve seen some neat looking options, but none with the clips that intrigue me. The BigiDesign Arto & Bolt Action pens look great, but I imagine that how I carry it will lead to damaging/bending the clip, and I just don’t want to worry as much about that.
Any recommendations that you guys might have?
Thanks!

I’m relatively new to the fountain pen community, but I’m already an avid user.
I really enjoy this hobby, and I don’t want to rush through it or become obsessed with acquiring knowledge and pens too quickly.
I’d rather take my time, especially with purchases. My concern is that rushing might take away some of the enjoyment of discovery and eventually make the hobby lose its appeal.
Has anyone else felt this way? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

I have no clue where this one came from it just appeared one day and it’s by far my most favorite pen I’ve ever used, the ink is fully dried up and I’m devastated, can anyone tell me what brand it is or anything so I can replace? last photo is the bottom of the pen 😅🥺

I’m thinking of buying an Ellington pen – persuasively marketed on social media and claiming an especially smooth writing experience.
A fair claim or exaggerated? What is the reality? There are a lot of other options at that price range.
I want a fine writing line for small writing in my journal. That might influence responses.

My first Esterbrook. My first pen over $80. I went with the fine, figured I could order stub 1.1 if needed. I feel like I just dipped my toes into another world of fountain pens! I’m excited! I love Halloween and pens! But can we have a moment for the demise of my bank account…

Hello pen aficionados! I am looking for a pen that meets my specific needs and I'm hoping someone here has a recommendation. Here are my needs and what I believe are the characteristics of my ideal pen:
- I will use this pen every day for writing appointments/events/errands in my personal agenda and notes & to-do lists in my work notebook
- I make my to-do lists by using a fine tip pen to draw an empty square. The square gets filled in when the task is complete. That step gives me a sense of accomplishment, so I take it seriously. To fill it in, I have to use several strokes of a fine tip pen. If I had a chisel tip pen, it would be only one stroke and would feel far more satisfying.
- for that reason, I believe I am looking for a dual-tip pen, with one end being a fine point and the other being a small chisel tip
- I have tried and do NOT like a brush tip as a substitute for the chisel tip. Unfortunately, most of the double sided pens I've found are a fine tip and brush combo, like the Shikiori Sailor (see photo)
- the closest I've come to finding this is the Zebra Mildliner (see photo) but unfortunately it only comes in highlighter colors, and a transparent dark grey, and I need a true opaque black. AND the fine tip side is too thick.
- yes, I could solve this problem by having two pens, but I am hoping a solution exists that is just ONE pen that I keep attached with a pen loop to my notebook
Your knowledge and any recommendations for this is much appreciated!

Maybe I’m too picky but I hate even the slightest amount of nib-wobble from a pen. It really degrades the writing experience to me. But recently, a revelation. For inserts that don’t quite fit the pen body a simple strip of insulation tape wrapped around it can give you the 0.0003mm of additional circumference needed to change it from rattly to snug.
Have I just hit upon an amazing hack, or is this a well known technique for making aftermarket inserts fit pen bodies?

I image-searched it on Google, but it pretty much just showed me Muji pens. It doesn't seem like one though. The pen was mostly frosted white, and it just didn't seem like a match to me.
It has a semi-translucent body with a bunch of clear oil, and some decent flowing ink.The cap is small, yet compact. The tip is really small, with the black part holding it being shaped in a sort of cone with lines running on it. The back cap isn't easily removable, like those screw-capped refillable pens. And I think it's maybe a .5mm writer. The ink cartridge inside kinda jets up to a wider shape, not sure what it's called, but it's convex.
I've used up a ton of it, so now I really, really wanna know how I can get another one. It's incredible, one of the best pens I've ever used. When I first picked it up, it only had like a ⅔ more ink than that. But I've been using it all this time, and it's still going pretty solid.
Thank you so much for reading, could just really use some help.
please help me out if you can :(

My pens are several months old. They still had the red rubber stopper at the end when I used them this week. I removed the stopper and they wrote like normal. After a few hours, ink began bleeding out from the tips and when I wiped off the ink, the pens couldn’t write properly anymore. The ink on paper would slowly fade as I scribble, even if the cartridges are full

Have any of you tried this? As someone who doesn’t know anything it seems like it should work. Any tips on removing the lead holder from the pencil?
Update: turns out you can if you push out the clutch and use a tip cone from a Bic Glide ultra comfort.
It doesn’t fit an energel refill unfortunately. The tube is slightly too narrow.

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit, so apologies if this is not it. Feel free to point me to a better suited one!
I’ve recently come across a studio roller ball pen 0.5mm, the only place I’ve been able to find it is at Dollarama which only comes in a 2pk and is hit or miss if it will be in stock. (I’m in Canada). I’ve been trying to find a pen with a needle tip like this one that is similar. Bonus if you can get ink cartridges to refill.
I’ve saw the Pentel energel rtx 0.5 online quite a bit, has anyone tried this one?

What we have here are three FLOW rollerball pens from Stilform, a German design studio formed in 2013 and headquartered in Hamburg. They’ve released several pens to date, one of which is the FLOW, which launched on Kickstarter back in June of 2024. Three variations of the pen were released, and those are the three that you see pictured: brass, matte titanium, and anodized aluminum.
The FLOW is a capped rollerball pen with a neat trick up its sleeve. Removing the magnetic cap causes the nose cone which is tucked in behind the cap to suddenly spring into action. Think of a retractable pen where the refill tip extends into place, and now apply that same logic to the entire nose cone extending into place. The cap can be posted in the rear so as to avoid misplacing it.
The FLOW measures 13.716 cm (5.4 in) in length, and has a diameter of 11 mm (0.40 in) at its widest. It’s not what I’d call a large pen, but it’s certainly longer than a Jotter, Saga, TechLiner Shorty, Zento Signature, or many of the pens that I use regularly. For reference, it’s about the exact same length as Modern Fuel’s Click Pen and Side Click Pen.
The brass FLOW is obviously the heaviest of the three, weighing in at 1.880 oz (53.4 g). Next up is the matte titanium model, weighing 1.260 oz (35.8 g). And finally we have the anodized aluminum, which is the lightest model weighing 1.005 oz (28.5 g). I personally favor lightweight pens, so the anodized aluminum is my favorite. I also like the finish and feel of it in hand the best, but that blessing is also a curse as its slick finish is somewhat slippery and offers little in the way of grip retention.
It’s not surprising to find that this German pen uses a German refill. The FLOW comes from Stilform with a Schmidt P8127 capless rollerball refill loaded inside. It’s a phenomenal refill in ink flow and reliability, but it’s also a rather bold and juicy one. I’m partial to the P8126 myself, so I always swap those in instead.
So, should you go with the FLOW? Only you would know! I do like a number of things about these pens, but there are negatives as well:
Regarding the brass model, it’s very nicely machined but it’s also much heavier than I want a pen to be. As for the matte titanium model, I was very disappointed by the feel of the titanium in hand. Matte is one thing, but it just lacked the quality feel that I’ve come to expect from most of the other titanium pens I own. The anodized aluminum model is my personal favorite, but as I mentioned earlier, it can be slippery. Also, I find that the nose cone can unscrew a little too easily for my tastes, so an O-ring would likely have been a good idea for a snug fit. My final criticism (and a significant one for me) is that the magnet is WAY too weak when posting the cap in the rear of the pens. It’s nice and strong in the front, but seriously weak in the back, reminding me a bit of the Zento Signature in that regard but much weaker than its rear pull. This was unfortunate as the magnetic cap is one of the biggest selling features of the pen, and simultaneously, one of its weakest when posting.

I am in the UK and bought some Pentel Energel refills (black 0.7mm) from Amazon.
The refills look genuine but are labelled "Only for sale in India". Is the ink likely to be formulated differently to a UK product?
Perhaps there's some difference to reflect climate or local manner of writing. I ask because several other consumer products, such as toothpaste or petrol, are adapted to local areas.
I don't want to find that in certain circumstances, the refills are not well suited to use in the UK.
Any views or experiences?
