Picture What Have I Done!??

Post image

2 months ago I had 1 Pen, a Cross Century Classic Black, that I've had for years. I discovered it was a $100 MSRP pen and decided to get a less expensive to replace pen for EDC.
I settled on the rOtring 600. Now I've added a uniball Zento Standard and Flow and now a Calspen Tanooci.
What rabbit hole am I going down now.
So far I like the rOtring overall. Don't get me wrong I still like the Cross, but the rOtring is a little smoother writing. I have other refills to use in the rOtring, a uni Jetstream and Schmidt easyflow 9000 but haven't done that yet
Zento's write really good, but I like the feel of the Standard better than the flow, more of the grip. The Claspen feels nice in the hand, but it's kind of draggy/scratchy on paper. Planning on trying it with the Zento refill.

Got this pen as a grad school graduation present from the uni and it's already running low on ink. It writes rather nicely, so I'd like to get refills. Anyone know what it is?

Picture Montblanc Star Walker Ballpoint

Whenever I’m at estate sales and thrift stores, I always check the pens. Today at Savers, I see the montblanc white star so I rip open the bag and check. Legit Montblanc medium ball point refill. I’ve not seen this model before so I put it in my pocket and went up to the self check out. Told the guy watching the registers that I only wanted 1 pen and wanted to donate the bag back. He smiled and handed me a 20% off coupon.

$2.39 plus tax.

And that’s how I used up all my luck.

I have not seen a review of these pens so here I am! :) Paper used is Clairefontaine 80 gsm. Pictures included of the water resistance test, smudge test and bleed through test as well as pictures showing actual measurements of the stock refill and the body.

Design: 5/5 I love its transparency and different color options, the body length is 11.6 cm. The overall form factor is very close to the Uniball One P. The body itself is plastic matte to the touch, not slippery at all. It doesn't have any rubberized sections. The click is not too loud but not too quiet either, and it is not super crispy, I'd say an average click.

Clip: 4.6/5 Looks robust and works almost the same as the Uniball One P.

Durability: 2.5/5 I am giving it an average score because it looks like the body is all plastic.

Pocketability: 4/5 It will definitely fit in most pockets and small bags but not as pocketable as other pens on the market such as the Zebra Mini Pocket Pen T-3.

Refill: It looks like it is a gel ink with 0.5mm tip. Smoothness is alright but not buttery smooth. The bleed through is very minimal as seen in the pictures, the smudge test at 0s definitely made a mess but anything above 5 seconds is completely dry, even though the paper I am using is not very absorbable. Looks like the refill itself is made from stainless steel and is around 10.8 cm to 10.9 cm.

Water resistance of the stock refill: 1.5/5 As seen on the pictures it is definitely far from a permanent ink, water added after the ink was left to dry for 1+ minute.

Refill compatibility: All Uniball Zento and Uniball Signo 207, 307, 207 ND are NOT compatible, they are the correct the length but are too wide. All Uniball Jetstream refills (that aren't multi-pen refills) are compatible, but just barely - you have to press in the click further than the stock refill.

Price: Got mine for 7 euros.

Overall impression is very good and I like that I can fit my Uniball Jetstream refills in that body.

Question my sakura/unipin fineliner nibs grind out fast, are copic multiliner plus any better?

• Upvotes

my sakura and unipin fineliners nibs grind out in a month or two. and before you say ur using too much pressure, i dont i just draw a lot and i draw everyday and i only use like 2-3 diff nib sizes. so i was wondering if i should buy copic multiliner plus (not multiliner sp) it costs 2x as much as a unipin are their nibs any stonger or is it just made of the same felt tip material. and please dont recomend technical pens they are hella expensive, one rotring isograph costs like 20x a unipin where i live

I picked these up at an estate sale. The Sensa pen has a Fisher Space Pen refill in it. I found the newer version, but not a lot of info on the old one. Also the Cross pen/pencil set are vintage 12kt usa made, gold filled.

Review FIND: Great metal host for Energel, Zebra, Uniball, Pilot G2, Schmidt, Schneider...

I have long been a fan of HongDian fountain pens and just discovered their Black Forest Rollerball pen. I got one today and find that it quite readily runs my favorite Energel, Sarasa, Pilot G2, Schmidt 888, Schneider Topball 850, Uniball refills, and more!

And with a short spacer, this pen will run Parker/Monteverde P refills too! What a find!

Wow. The pen is simple, solid, weighty, looks great and is as functionally reliable as a pen can be. Snap cap is quick, tight, and solid. No threads to bother with. Barrel length is compact - there is no back-weight feeling of any kind here. Post if you want, but why bother adding more weight back there?

The pen feels quite stable in the hand and the smooth grip section does not feel slippery, nor insecure, to me at all.

Though I have numerous copies of Sarasa Grand, Energel Alloy, Beiluner G04 & GO2, Lamy Al-Star, OHTO CR01 & CR02, Retro 51 Tornado, Machine Era Field Draftsman.... this $18 HongDian host is such an enjoyable pen to write with.

To my taste in size, weight, feel, and refill compatibility - I am thrilled.

They are on Amazon for $18 and I guarantee... these are a dream to write with and look great, too. No more plastic pen bodies for me. Metal all the way.

Question Any Refillable Pens Like The Penmate Flair?

I’ve really been enjoying the Penmate Flair and other felt-tip pens. The friction that they provide makes writing with them very enjoyable. However, I would like to start buying pens with refills available. Are there any pens with refills that are similar to the Flair? Thanks for the recs!

Please, it's perfect. I need more.

Question Special edition pens

Dear Reditions

How do you all deal with special edition pens such as Leonardo Caprivi poliedrica fountain pen from Corsani. Are these special editions , special in any meaningful way? What is a special edition anyways and how should I be able to distinguish a genuine special edition pen and a marketing technique. What makes an edition truly special?

Love
