Discussion [Daily vs Weekend] who wears what when?

Post image
152 Upvotes

I see a lot of references to “weekend” watches. If that’s a thing for you, I’m curious about how you approach it.

These days I wear the GS SBGX261 to work most days and enjoy wearing the 114270 Explorer on the weekends. The Explorer is my all-time favorite watch, but I work in a position and setting where the potential optics and blowback of wearing a Rolex just aren’t worth it. I also really like the Grand Seiko on its own merits.

Discussion France riots : hublot safe

Hublot. So safe, nobody steals it.

Just grabbed the Black SEIKO Metronome Watch SMW006A before this performance and it looks absolutely stunning and is classy enough to fit with a tux while having utility, lol. Well I definitely like it enough I’ll have to pull it out more for performances and for around $250 it’s a great addition to my collection while being affordable.

I took a picture [Seiko] Picked up my first watch, how’d I do?

Post image
409 Upvotes

I’ve been avoiding getting into watches for a long time, until recently I fell into a rabbit hole. Started researching online and came across this limited edition 145th anniversary Seiko and instantly fell in love. Although it wasn’t available just yet I kept looking around to see what was out there as I decided on my first watch. I was also skeptical about buying my first watch online without ever seeing them in person so I decided to stop by a jewelry store to just look around and try some on (no intention of buying). Funnily enough, when I arrived they ended up having the exact watch I was interested in. The salesman said it came in the day prior, and was likely going to be gone within the week. Needless to say I walked out with it and am very excited to start my collection!

Discussion Gift watch for 30 year employee turning 50

I have a guy who has worked for me forever, I wanted to get him a knife, but I do see him wearing watches periodically when he's out, nothing crazy.

I'm looking to spend about $1,000, preferably something low maintenance like a solar/GPS so it keeps time when it's not being used.

Considering Citizen Eco-Drive or a Seiko Astron, my jeweler that I often buys from carries both.

Any suggestions?

Taking a stroll around the lake on a beautiful fall day, surrounded by autumn colors. I’m rocking my Tetra Salvia, which was a gift from my wife. Perfectly sized for her to steal and wear as well! Absolutely love the movement finishing and the strap feels top notch. This is my first foray into German watches, and I definitely want to explore more of the independent scene there.

I took a picture Zenith Chronomaster Original “Colors” (Two-Line Dial): Brilliant, But Distant

Post image
46 Upvotes

Owning the Zenith Chronomaster Original “Colors” with its clean two-line dial brings a sense of mixed feelings. On paper and in hand, it is an absolute triumph of design and engineering. The 38mm vintage proportions, the iconic overlapping tri-color registers, the uncluttered dial, and the high-frequency El Primero at 36000 b/h beating visibly through the case back showcase flawless finishing and supreme horological pedigree.
Yet, despite this near-perfection, it remains the least-worn piece in the collection.

Perhaps the paradox lies in its own precision. It is so impeccably crafted and hyper-correct that it can occasionally feel like a calculated homage rather than a watch forged with a living, breathing soul. Lacking that elusive supplément d'âme or the eccentric charm of pieces with a raw, lived-in character, it feels more like an exhibition-grade masterpiece than an effortless everyday companion. It is a stunning watch to deeply admire—just rarely the one that makes it onto the wrist.

I took a picture [Custom] I built my first watch. Explorer II / Black Bay One meets Explorer I / Ranger was my idea.

Post image
• Upvotes

It doesn’t have a second hand because I broke it. I ordered a new one, so I’ll have to take it back apart and fix that.

It’s a brushed finish Tokeilab EXP 38 v2 case and bracelet set, Tokeilab hands, Amazon dial, and a regulated Seiko NH35 movement.

I first got into watches about 6 months ago. I’ve always enjoyed mechanical things (namely cars), so I figured building watches would be a cheaper way to scratch both itches. It was fun to brainstorm, pick out all the parts and put together something unique. I’ll definitely be building more.

Discussion Curious as to what’s special about your most worn watch?

Thumbnail

Over the past 6 months what would you guess is your most worn watch? After a bit of introspection why do you think you’ve been drawn to that watch the most recently? Aesthetics? Specs? Fit? Memories? When did you buy it? Is it just that the novelty hasn’t worn off yet? Is it in your typical price range? Was it more expensive? Less? Just curious as to what it is that really connects us to our most watches.

Personally, my most worn over the last 6 months has been my Farer Curtis-Eastern Arabic numerals, Limiyed edition (#69/100😉😉) Second would be my Baltic aquascaphe mk2 as it’s durability is shockingly insane. I did just get a Farer Nevada Pine GMT in September and that one has only left my wrist for work, so the Curtis might get overtaken soon.

My wife and I got married earlier this May, and on our trip to Switzerland we simply had to do the thing. I already knew I wanted the Tank Must, so that's what I wanted to try. She was a bit unsure—she eyed the Panthere Small, but eventually settled on the Medium.

We're 26/27, and this is our first ever luxury watch purchase, and we're over the moon. I bought hers, and she mine. Finally got a proper Tank to round out my collection.

Discussion [PATINA or NOT] Patina or Clean vintage dial / Which side are you on?

Thumbnail

Two vintage Omegas, each with its own character. One has developed a beautiful tropical patina over the years, while the other has a remarkably clean dial.

I love how time can give a vintage watch a unique personality, but I also appreciate the beauty of a well-preserved original dial. It's really hard to choose between the two!

What do you guys prefer?

Discussion Which chronograph? Seiko vs Nivada

Thumbnail
gallery
23 Upvotes

Hello chaps,
I'm torn between the Seiko SSC961 Speedtimer and the Nivada Autochron Mecaquartz. Both look SWEET and I genuinely can't decide. I've been going back and forth for weeks now, staring at photos at 1am like a proper weirdo, and my brain has officially given up. So I'm handing it over to you lot 😅
Here's where my head's at:

The Seiko feels like the safe pick. Big name, solar means it'll never die in a drawer, and the Speedtimer line has that whole heritage thing going on. And it looks SICK.

The Nivada has that cool vintage-revival vibe, and fewer people know the brand, which I kind of love. The mecaquartz is a nice middle ground too, with that snappy chrono feel without paying for a full mechanical. But I've never handled one in person, so I've no idea if it feels as good as it looks in photos. And it ALSO looks sick

So, the big questions:

Which one has more aura?

Which one feels more quality on the wrist? Case finishing, crisp pushers, bracelet, all that good stuff.

Are there any other chronographs in this price range I should look at? Open to anything, especially something a bit different

For context, this would be my daily wearer, so it needs to work for office days and weekends without looking out of place.

If you own either one, PLEASE share wrist shots and how it's held up. Real-world experience beats a hundred YouTube reviews.

Thanks 😀

Review [SOTC] - all bases covered!

Post image

I feel like this is reaching a perfect collection for me - nothing overly mainstream, all super wearable and surprisingly practical.

The hard decision is working out which one to wear each day...

I don't see the point of a Chrono, but would be open to adding something in future which would have a bit more of a holiday/ diving focus - at the minute these are all 50m water resistant, but I'd only take the VC anywhere near water.

Review [SOTC] - I'm done!

[SOTC]

Quick summary of the core collection -

Zenith Final Edition Chronomaster for Timeless - Limited to 38 pcs. Always been a fan of the El Primero. Love this no-date version with the red sub dial.

IWC Ocean Bund -Porsche Design - Military issued watch, used by German Navy combat divers- Kampfschwimmers. A watch far ahead of its day, the civilian version was the first dive watch to be rated to 2000 metres. Also the first dive watch fully made in titanium. Rare bird, love it.

Chopard L.U.C 16/1867 - Stunning 38mm GMT watch with a gorgeous black metalem guilloche dial, I think these are underrated and the movement finishing is amazing at this price point!

Rolex GMT Pepsi 1675 - From 1984, with an MK2 dial and stunning patina, even if a bit roughed up. Such a good daily. Have the bracelet, on a leather strap for autumn currently.

Breguet Classique 3330 - Such a beautiful 36mm yellow gold dress watch! Exquisite guilloche on the dial and in mint condition from the Daniel Roth era at Breguet.

Patek World Time 5230G - Crown jewel of the collection, just a stunning piece through and through. I've always loved world timers, and Patek excels in this category.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Milspec x Hodinkee Limited to 250 pcs - 40.3mm of pure joy, became my grail diver - or grail watch really, the day it released. I've had this baby for 5 yrs, never get tired of staring at it!

JLC Reverso 1931 Rouge Boutique Edition - Released in Limited quantities in 2011 (less than 200 pcs estimated), this tribute to the original 1931 Reverso with its deep red dial is gorgeous see in sunlight. Ultra-thin at 7.27mm, its an absolute pleasure to wear.

It's been a 10 year journey curating this collection, I think they cover all use cases (for me) and each one means something special.

I'm done now, time to enjoy wearing these watches over a lifetime and make great memories!

I took a picture [HBC006J1] Edo Purple Alpinist

I was at work, when I got a call from Old Northeast Jewelers (a Seiko Luxe AD) in St. Petersburg, FL where I had reserved a Seiko HBC006J1 Edo Purple Alpinist. Limited to 7000 units worldwide, these are fairly scarce and in very high demand, with only a few units sent to each Seiko Luxe dealer. Purple is also a fairly rare Seiko dial color, so all the porphyrophiles are jumping at the opportunity to own one of these.

Naturally, I took part of the day off and made the 1.5 hour drive to St. Pete to get this as soon as possible.

I took a picture [SOTC] Judge me and my peasant collection!

Post image

My collection over the last ~8 years. I tried a smart watch, it quickly got annoying. The notifications, constant charging, ugh. The Samsung Watch 6(I think) sat next to my bed since a month after I got it, as a glorified backup alarm clock, which has now been sold and had it's duties taken over my Casio F-91W.

As a humble warehouse shipping jockey, this is my selection. From left to right; A Fossil Chrono, '80s Seiko 5 6309-7270, 80s Seiko Quartz 7N43-9048, Seiko Quartz, Citizen Eagle 7 Birth month/year, Citizen Quartz Tank 200204, Citizen Tsuyosa NJ0200-50X, Orient Bambino, (Outside box) Citizen BM8476-23E Eco-Drive, Casio F-91W. Plus a couple other Fossils in their boxes to the side from ye olden days.

The Tsuyosa I just bought for my best friends wedding at the end of the month to match my suit accents. The two outside the box are my work beaters. They get smacked into metal beams a lot. I only get to wear my nicer stuff on some weekends, so the automatics never get to stay wound up. I haven't even setup the bracelet on the Tsuyosa.

ps. Please don't judge my scratched up dresser, it's sensitive, and you'll hurt it's feelings. Also, it was free, and rather old.

Hi, gore for you:

I let my 7-month-old son play with my Seiko Presage Cocktail Time, and he crawled across a stone floor with it.

The crystal is now scratched.

Can these scratches be polished out, or does it need replacing? Could you provide a rough cost estimate for both options?

Much love

Discussion Speedmaster Chocolate dial

Hey!

I’m thinking about buying a speedy chocolate dial. It’s the variant I like the most, since it combines the dial with an open caseback. However, is it too big on my 6.5 inch wrist? I really love the watch, but I’m used to a reverso grand taille and a sector dial.

I took a picture [Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT] Burgundy-Black and afternoon sunlight

Post image
14 Upvotes

Caught the BB58 GMT in some good afternoon sunlight and thought I’d share it. The burgundy and black bezel looks richer in person, especially with the gilt details on the dial. I like that Tudor went with this colour combination instead of the more familiar GMT colours. In direct sunlight, the burgundy really stands out, while the gilt details give the dial a nice vintage feel. I like that Tudor has given the BB58 GMT its own character rather than going with another predictable colour combination. Would love to see how the burgundy looks in different lighting. Drop your wrist shots below especially some natural light shots. Curious to see how the colour comes across on everyone else’s.

Review My Humble Watch collection

I started getting into watches about two years ago. As you can see from my collection, I mostly prefer sporty models. My current lineup includes a bit of everything: stainless steel, titanium, automatic, quartz, and solar powered pieces. While I really enjoy this set for now, I'm always on the lookout for new additions. Next on my wishlist is a light-dial watch, or perhaps another Longines (I used to own a Conquest a while back), or maybe a Christopher Ward.

Been wearing the Max Bill non-stop since I got it around 2 days back and I just can’t stop looking at my wrist. Such a beautiful piece!!

I ended up doing a 30min photo shoot of the watch under good studio lighting and also captured some ASMR of the sound of the movement.

Overall, been loving everything about it. It’s running +6.2s/day for me at the moment. Wouldn’t mind if it breaks in a few weeks and gives me a better accuracy. Curious about what others are getting as well!
