I've been browsing for a custom pen. Something cheap that may evolve into gifts in the future. So for $21.20 USD laser engraved, I went with one from JoshuaLivingstonArt on Etsy.
The title of the pen "Minimalist Wooden Fountain Pen Set, Handcrafted Vintage Style, Luxury Writing Gift for Writers & Stationery Lovers"
It arrived, and I didn't have much time to mess around with it. However, I filled it with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts.
I didn't even rinse/clean it out. Zero tuning or even checking besides my naked eyes. Filled and went! Good technique, nope, but it's a $20 pen. People pay way more for Lamy and which doesn't even remotely bring you into your zen state of writing.
Filled, primed and read to go. Had to dip the nib and it started writing like it has for years. Cleaned off the excess ink and just did some scrap paper writing to see the type of pen/writing.
Wow I'm impressed for sure! It shows the ink well. Fast writing is a bit drie, but with 54th Massachusetts, perfect! Nice slow deliberate strokes, it lays the ink well. I know I zinged Lamy but truly, 10x better than them and actually feels like a fountain pen.
The weight and balance is nice. I can't wait to see the brass patina over time. The screw on top has some nice weight too. No place to post it but even with my mits, no need to. Great balance to it. It is a round pen, ao it likes to roll even with the cap on (round too). So I stand the cap up and rest the pen next to if I need to.
Now time to clean, fine tune and get a bunch of pages written with it.

I've heard very conflicting opinions about my handwriting, what do y'all think?

i would like feedback about what i can do better, i’ve recently started trying to make my print better and teaching myself cursive so i can make clean and neat notes in school

I was apart of the generation where they thought cursive wasn’t important. My parents are the one who taught me my signature. (it’s atrocious) So I decided to try and teach myself. I have only been practicing for a few weeks but I decided maybe I should get some outside perspective :)

No one has ever said my handwriting is terrible and I’m curious about how I could make it less sloppy without sacrificing speed.

Idk if it is allowed to say that people can check my wall for my previous images regarding my progress in my hand writing, reddit is sometimes weird with that stuff. However, I have been writing in cursive since last summer and now in my autumn semester I decided to write only in cursive which I think I have gotten used to by now, less mistakes, more neat and organized (I bought a better notebook to take notes and I can see the awesome difference and how easy it is). So please, if you may check my previous post and tell me how I can improve since I have been putting a lot of effort and time into this

Just messing with different things while taking some notes. Also, not gonna lie, but I'm liking current election projections 😁

My z's is almost indistinguishable from my y's. Can someone offer dome guidance on how to improve it or potentially offer a different way to write it that makes it distinct?

I prepared these notes in 2025, while preparing for an exam.

Would love to hear about what handwriting system everyone learned in school.
I was in elementary school in the 90's. It was a public school in Michigan and we used the D'Nealian curriculum. The one interesting thing was that the print letters are written with slant, which I think was designed so it would be easier to transition to cursive.
I believe we learned to print in K-2nd grade and then cursive in 3rd grade. I think we had a short refresher on cursive in 4th grade.
I remember our teachers telling us how once we got to middle school (7th grade), we would have to write everything in cursive. That never happened. Teachers were happy if they could read what we wrote.
By the time I got to high school, everyone was typing papers of any significant length, but we still used handwriting in class.

I’m also open to suggestions about improvements!

I have been practicing handwriting for a few years now, but even though I know I've gotten better I can't help but shake the beginning I've taken some steps back in sacrificing the idea of the finished product for my hands and speed's sake. Will. Am I just naturally worse at serious handwriting?

Someone said, that writing is an additional aid to memorization. :)

my handwriting become really scribbled when I have a bad day and I can read it but my teachers can’t which is bad so do you have any advice on making my handwriting legible when I’m bad mood [image for reference I gues]
