Technical Support Netflix stuck loading first time playing a film, works after a refresh

• Upvotes

Netflix desktop on Chrome/Win11. When I play a video, it shows the loading circle and gets stuck there. If I refresh the page, the video plays fine.

If I clear Netflix cookies/cache, it works for 2/3 times and then reoccurs again. I've disabled all extensions.

This happens on 2 different Win11/Chrome laptops. Phone app works fine.

Anyone else have this issue?

Discussion 1899 was cancelled, and 4 years later, I still haven’t gotten over it.

1899 -

Back in 2022, the creators of Dark gave us this little gem. Just as the plot was starting to unravel its mysteries, Netflix decided to pull the plug.

Four years later, I’m still bitter about it. Has anyone actually gotten over this cancellation? And more importantly, how much potential did this show have for a second season?

Discussion Episode 4 of The Queen's Gambit

In episode 4 of The Queen’s Gambit, wasn't Beth's sexual encounter tatamount to statutory rape?

Beth is still a minor. "Middle Game," she attends a party with college students, smokes marijuana, and has sex with one of her Russian classmates. She is literally 15 and in high school at this point in the story. Even if Beth appeared to agree to the encounter, minors cannot consent to a sexual encounter with a fully grown adult.

Even under the law at the time, the story takes place primarily in Kentucky. Historical Kentucky law treated sexual intercourse with a girl under 18 as a criminal offense even when she appeared to consent. That provision remained in effect until 1975. So since Beth was under 18 and the encounter occurred in Kentucky, it could have constituted statutory rape.

I'm surprised how people don't talk about it.

Discussion Well that was awkward…

Wonka The Golden Ticket competition…

Context - Sasha had to choose four contestants to face elimination in the jelly bean challenge. When one girl survived and came back, her best friend ran to hug her, but Sasha suddenly rushed in and tried to hug her first. The best friend practically shoved Sasha out of the way to get to her friend. 😂 It was such an awkward moment, especially considering Sasha was the one who put her up for elimination in the first place 😬😂

Question Where can I find information about Netflix's book adaptations?

Specifically, I'd like to read up more on when rights were bought from the publishing agencies and, if possible, what stipulations there were around the adaptations.

Where could I read more about this? Is there a record somewhere I could access? I imagine that Netflix is pretty tight-lipped about some things but they produce a billion shows every year. I just want to read into a couple of them.

Netflix Games Daily Quiz / Netflix Games rewards

Long time viewer but I noticed Netflix trying to push out more games and I see the Daily Quiz feature pop-up. I've done it a few times and it wasn't bad but I didn't see anything rewarding with it. Sure they track my streak but I feel like I don't care enough to do it. I kind of enjoyed the horror real time event ones though sometimes it was a bit short. I love games with friends like Dispatch.

When compared to Disney+ they get to offer pretty cool perks for playing such games as rewards such as merch discounts and exclusive access.

Why do you think this is a bad idea to offer incentives for playing their games? What would convince you to engage in these?

  1. Less Ads on select shows/movies

  2. Netflix Real-life events: Reality TV show post season audience invitation / WWE / Sports / Cooking show winner restaurant discounts etc..

  3. I've been envious of Netflix Preview Club but access to it is pretty arbitrary. I wonder if this could be something they grant for certain genres I would like.

  4. Netflix Real-life events: Reality TV show post season audience invitation / WWE / Sports / Cooking show winner restaurant discounts etc / International hosted events (Netflix has so much foreign country content that is pretty legit compared to some US Netflix content in recent times)

Discussion 3-6 ads per break??

Recently came back to Netflix and have the Ads tier. I'm shown 6 ads in one ad break on some shows like Young Sheldon. The ads run 3-6 at a time at least every 10 minutes, sometimes less. That is wild and I'm going back to just YouTube and Curiosity Stream. It's not been that many years since I paid $6 a month for Netflix with no ads

Discussion Tyson documentary (mega ads!)

I really was looking forward to watching this documentary. But holy Hell! The amount of ads are simply ridiculous. Netflix is running more ads than free broadcasted networks. I’m not paying for this anymore. Netflix, you’re fired!

Technical Support Stuck in the past - anyone dealt with this?

My Netflix is broken. It started when I tried to fire it up on my Roku TV to finish watching Sacrifice (a recent release of theirs) that I'd started a few days earlier. There was no recent activity section to pick up from and when I searched the title it didn't come up. That's when I notice My List was way out of date, missing titles I'd added and ones I'd deleted still there. And the titles that were featured all felt almost a year old - like, Rebel Ridge was prominent.

I tried backing out to the Roku menu and looking for Sacrifice and trying to get it that way. I found it and pressed the button to take me directly to it on Netflix and it took me to an info screen that looked like the movie hadn't been released yet where I could only watch a trailer and set a reminder.

Okay, on to the software updates, logging in and logging out, unplugging the TV, uninstalling and reinstalling Netflix, etc. Nothing worked. This was on my upstairs TV yesterday and my downstairs and phone app were fine. Today the downstairs TV (same model TCL Roku TV) has the same problem.

Has anyone seen or dealt with this before? Netflix support was no help. The only thing it seems like there is left to do is to factory reset the TV which would mean setting everything up again and I don't even feel confident it would work.

Discussion Changes to East of Eden

Let me start off by saying the show is phenomenal and miles above the older movie. The actors and director did an incredible job. My only irk was that they changed some small things.. and it doesn't really sit well with me. It's really unnecessary to make them.

I'm re-reading the book and noticed they messed with the dialogue concerning selling the farm. In the book Adam sells it and wants to sell, but In the movie it's his brother.. kind of a pointless change. Im wondering if those screenwriters just wanted to change it just for the hell of it. There are more that I can list, but I wanted to see if anyone else had other changes they noticed.. what's the biggest one that you noticed?

Recommendation I swear

I have just finished watching this masterpiece movie. I would like to recommend it to anyone who hasn’t watched it. I haven’t cried so hard from watching movies for a long long time, but this movie really makes me very emotional.

It just happened to pop up on my Netflix, and I gave it a try. It would not leave my head. It would be a waste if I don’t recommend it to you!

After watching this movie, I look it up and I found that this movie win 2026 BAFTA Film Awards.

Discussion The New Stanford Prison Experiment - Thoughts? (Potential spoilers) Spoiler

I'm only on the 2nd episode so far and while I think it would be wrong to think of this as anything other than "reality" TV, it's interesting how quickly the participants take on their new identities and roles.

It has been a LONG time since I studied the Stanford Prison or Milgram experiments so I forget a lot of the ins and outs other than the ethical concerns.

If you have watched it or in the process, what are your thoughts?

Question Outlast Season 1 - Trail Cams??? Spoiler

I have recently watched season 1 with my lady after giving it up years ago for reasons I didn't remember, and now I do.

I know all the discussions about the behavior of the contestants have been exhausted years ago, but I didn't see anyone touch on that: why on earth did the production allow the contestants to see the trail cams, ruining the Alpha sleeping bag heist?

Thinking from the "encouraging cutthroat behavior" point, allowing them to not know for sure who did it would be even more harmful, making them more likely to leash out against the wrong team or flare out. Allowing them in the production tent to watch the trail cams felt so bizarrely pointless, scripted and "half measured" that I gave up watching the first time.

Discussion Thoughts on 12 monkey

Post image

I am watching this now ..so far i liked it but i feel like its getting kind of slow after the 1st season. And there are many things I can't understand..like how they did that for example: cole needed his younger self's blood so that he can continue splitting..how did they for others ? And the room where the witness (their son) initially was giving instructions to others .. and that room was connected to cole's son we all know that but how they changed the witness, i still can't process it .

But i kind of liked its intro tune

Discussion Heartstopper

Just finished watching the British Heartstopper series, Heartstopper Forever movie and the podcasts. This was a friggin awesome series. Beautifully navigating teen experience, highs, lows, trials and tribulations of teen life living and dealing with realistic minority groups living within the general population rules. Hats off to the writer, director, the brilliant cast and crew. What a treasure. I have not seen a series since I watched 13 Reasons Why (USA series) and its podcasts that navigated sensitive and realistic young peoples issues. From a straight, white female in early 60s, it is so heartwarming to see work like this produced so young people can see themselves represented, in a way that can lead to further discussion, thought and considered care. The very biggest bunch of roses to you all. If you haven’t seen Heartstopper, it is a must watch.
