General My cook stays at my flat when I am away

So a little background first, my flatmate has been out of town for a long time now as she is undergoing some medical treatment. I have a cook, who comes twice a day and has Keys to the flat. I found the cook to be lying down and scrolling Instagram (she has the WiFi password) in the kitchen/hall couple of times when she though I was out. She said she wanted to kill some time before going to the next house and is here just that day. I brushed them of as random incidents.

Now, I was not at my flat for most of the days this month, since my flatmate was also away there should not be anyone in the flat. However, I was randomly checking the WiFi usage and found that the WiFi was being used every single day even when I was not there.

I already has a suspicion that my cook stays at my flat when I am not there. This almost proves it. And clearly, this is not a one off incident, this is happening every single day. And when I think about it, I find a couple of things missing here and there. I would not want to jump to the conclusion that she stole so sticking just to the 'her staying at the flat when I am away' fact.

Is this harmless? Should I call her out? Should I take back the keys and ask her to come only when I am at the flat?

TLDR: My cook stays at my flat when I am away. Should I ignore or call her out?

Edit 1: I asked her to return the keys, she said it would not be possible to come that late at night. (Most of the days I reach back from office by 8). So she would need the keys in order to come in the evening and prepare for dinner.

Discussion The flat purchase scene in the movie lootcase doesn't make any sense.

Post image
165 Upvotes

In the movie Lootcase. There is a scene where kunal goes to buy a flat in Mumbai with the money he got from the suitcase.

He has the total amount in cash which he can pay directly. This is what kunal thinks

He introduces himself as a businessman to the sales girl..The sales girl tells him that they usually split the payment in 20 80 scheme where 20% is down payment and 80% is loan or other means. She asks him how is he going to pay the 20%

kunal says he will pay it in cash. To which the sales girl gets shocked. And kunal runs away from there.

Like why can't he pay the 20% down payment as cash ?? Is there something I am missing in the purchase/sale methods in mumbai.

Also why only 20 percent is down payment. Why can't I pay 50% down payment if I have money ??

General Paid ₹19,110 at a Mumbai private hospital for stitches on my 6-year-old's chin. Is there really no regulation on hospital bills?

My 6-year-old had a deep cut on his chin at home. On our pediatrician's advice, we took him to a private hospital in Powai for stitches. He's fine now. He got a local anaesthetic and stitches.

We were billed ₹19,110: ₹1,500 consultation, about ₹1,610 consumables, ₹9,300 for "CLW - Multiple" and ₹6,700 for "Intermediate Debridement". The bill doesn't list anaesthesia separately. When we asked for a breakup, this is what we got. We paid, but it's been bothering us. Even ₹9-10k would have felt high.

It also made me wonder: what happens to someone who can't afford this in an emergency? Do they risk travelling across the city in traffic, with a worsening condition, just to find a cheaper place?

Has anyone dealt with something similar, or successfully disputed a bill? Also, is this a normal price for stitches at private hospitals in Mumbai?

Discussion Which type of Mumbai Auto passenger are you today? Pick your poison.

Post image
26 Upvotes

Every Mumbaikar thinks they have mastered the art of dealing with autowalas and taxi drivers, but we all go through this exact cycle of grief every single time we step out. Which one is your current mood?

Stage 1: Denial – "Bhaiya, meter se chalenge na?" (He nods, but you already know the meter is "broken" or he's demanding an extra ₹20 because you have a backpack and he claims it's "luggage").
Stage 2: Anger – You tell him the destination, and he just stares at you, shakes his head, and drives away. Leaving you stranded in the sun.
Stage 3: Bargaining – It's a 15-minute ride. The meter would show ₹60. He looks at you and says, "Flat 150 do, return empty jaana hai" (Give me a flat ₹150, I'll have to return empty). You settle on ₹100, knowing you're still being overcharged, but you're late for work.
Stage 4: Depression – He stops in the middle of the road to buy his own cutting chai, leaving you in the traffic, or picks up a random stranger as a second passenger without asking you.
Stage 5: Acceptance – You finally reach your destination, pay him, and say "Thank you" because you're just happy you survived the traffic without getting into a screaming match.

Drop your worst auto or taxi story in the comments. Let’s see who got the most creative excuse for not going to Andheri East.

Discussion Vertical Jodi Flats?

I've seen a lot of Jodi side by side apartments in Mumbai and Suburbs but haven't come across anything vertical.

I'm curious to know why everyone goes for side by side rather than vertical when verticals provide better space usability as well as privacy to family members.

General Mumbai bikers, which motorcycle dealerships offer the best deals and most transparent buying experience?

Hey Mumbai folks!

I'm planning to buy a new motorcycle before mid-December and would appreciate recommendations from people who've recently purchased one.

My shortlist includes the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure and Triumph Scrambler.

I'll be visiting a few showrooms in the next day or two to check on-road prices and compare quotations. So I'd love to know which dealerships are worth visiting first and what I should specifically ask them.

I'm planning to approach multiple authorized dealerships across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Wanted to ask:

  • Which dealerships would you genuinely recommend for competitive pricing and customer service?
  • Have you managed to negotiate a significant discount compared with the initial quotation?
  • Do dealerships from different parts of Mumbai offer noticeably different prices?
  • Which showrooms offer better insurance rates or complimentary accessories?
  • What should I ask during my first showroom visit to get the best possible quotation?
  • Are there any dealers known for unnecessary charges, forced add-ons or poor delivery experiences?
  • Do they allow PDI before full payment and registration?
  • Any dealerships worth avoiding?

If you've purchased a bike recently, please share the model, showroom/location, original quotation, final price and benefits received.

I'm willing to travel across Mumbai or nearby areas for a better deal, provided the dealership is reliable.

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

General Looking for a gynaecologist near Powai/ Andheri East/ Ghatkopar/ Chandivali

Hi everyone, I am currently 8 weeks pregnant, and since I have had a complicated prior pregnancy that had to be terminated, I wanted to be really sure about the doctor and hospital I go to this time. The first time around, I went to Hiranandani Hospital as it was closest to home, and while their service was overall positive and helpful, I found the doctors to be a little rude. I am still going to the same doctor and it’s become really difficult for me now. Every time I ask the doctor a simple question, for example if I could come for a regular scan on Saturday instead of Thursday, since I have to go to office on the weekdays, my current doctor finds it an opportunity to lecture me, in this case about how I should stop thinking in this way if I want to sustain my pregnancy, and I should be grateful that in India doctors even work on Saturdays, if I was abroad I would have had to come on Thursday anyhow. I find this really off putting, instead of simple straightforward answers, I always get some kind of a scolding.

I would really like to go to a doctor who has experience, who has their own clinic, good bedside manner, and who is preferably also attached to a hospital with NICU in case of any complications.

I have seen the list on the other subReddit, but I would love to hear of any personal recommendations and experiences, especially since the last mentions the same doctor I am trying to switch!

I stay in Chandivali, so Marol, Saki Naka, Andheri East, Hiranandani Powai, Ghatkopar, etc are all areas that I can consider, or even further beyond if the doctor is really good. Thank you so much, any help is highly appreciated!

General Applying for passports for my parents without birth or school certificates – Need advice (Virar, Mumbai)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I want to apply for passports for both my parents, but neither of them has a birth certificate or a school leaving/passing certificate.

However, they both have valid Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and Voter IDs. They also regularly file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs).

I'm concerned about whether the absence of birth certificates or educational documents could create issues during the passport application process, particularly during police verification.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation:

  1. Is it possible to get a passport without a birth certificate or school certificate?

  2. What alternative documents can be submitted as proof of date of birth?

  3. Has anyone faced issues during police verification in Mumbai or the Virar area under similar circumstances?

  4. If you know a reliable passport agent or consultant in Virar who has experience handling such cases, please share their details.

Any advice or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
