Megathread r/IndieDev Weekly Monday Megathread - October 18, 2026 - New users start here! Show us what you're working on! Have a chat! Ask a question!

Hi r/IndieDev!

This is our weekly megathread that is renewed every Monday! It's a space for new redditors to introduce themselves, but also a place to strike up a conversation about anything you like!

Use it to:

  • Introduce yourself!
  • Show off a game or something you've been working on
  • Ask a question
  • Have a conversation
  • Give others feedback

And... if you don't have quite enough karma to post directly to the subreddit, this is a good place to post your idea as a comment and talk to others to gather the necessary comment karma.

If you would like to see all the older Weekly Megathreads, just click on the "Megathread" filter in the sidebar or click here!

Meta Moderator-Announcement: Congrats, r/indiedev! With the new visitor metric Reddit has rolled out, this community is one of the biggest indiedev communities on reddit! 160k weekly visitors!

According to Reddit, subscriber count is more of a measure of community age so now weekly visitors is what counts.

We have 160k.

I thought I would let you all know. So our subscriber count did not go down, it's a fancy new metric.

I had a suspicion this community was more active than the rest (see r/indiegaming for example). Thank you for all your lovely comments, contributions and love for indiedev.

(r/gamedev is still bigger though, but the focus there is shifted a bit more towards serious than r/indiedev)

See ya around!

Updated animations on my Mongolian Invasion of Vietnam hero defense game; feedback?

Last week I posted about this game, and received a lot of (very fair) criticism here and in other subs about the animations (mostly, the skating characters and weightlessness of the attacks)

Still a work in progress of course, but since then, I've been focusing on addressing that by adding:

  • more mechanisms to match player movement with animations and lock feet
  • knock back animations with back steps instead of just sliding enemies
  • directional camera shakes
  • wind up slow downs and accelerated swings
  • hit stops (still need to mess with this a bit, some of the faster weapons appear too glitchy)
  • more exaggerated blood/directional sprays

I toyed with weapon trails but decided against it, I didn't like the look of it with the rest of the style (please tell me if I'm wrong here)

Any additional feedback is of course greatly appreciated! Anything else I'm leaving on the table? Not readable enough without weapon trails? Still too little wind up?

If you're curious, the game is 100 Bodies in the Grass. Planning to have a demo out in a couple of weeks

AI Disclaimer: For full transparency, Claude was heavily used in coding this game, and most of the 3d models/textures and music had generative AI involved in the workflows. The animations and other sfx are from free/paid asset libraries. I fully respect if that fact alone makes some/many people here want nothing to do with this game, and I believe you should easily be able to know, through transparent disclosures, which games used generative AI and which did not. I also think the best way to achieve a world where that is possible is if games that did use AI felt free to disclose its use without getting sabotaged.

I understand this is inviting a strong backlash and hate in this sub, but in an effort to increase transparency for everyone, I am putting this out there. In any case, thank you for your time in checking us out!

Video I am pretty proud of the progress I made on Loose Screws, my sorting game with a psychological horror atmosphere ! Currently preparing the demo

Hey! I’m pretty proud of how Loose Screws is coming along, so I wanted to share a little of the progress 🙂

You’re locked in a small room, sorting hardware, inspecting pieces and using tools to figure out where everything belongs. You can earn little comforts to make the room feel more like home, but there’s always something a bit unsettling about being there.

I’m currently preparing the demo, and it’s exciting to see everything coming together

You can see more on Steam : https://store.steampowered.com/app/5250960/Loose_Screws/

How much Indie Devs rely on Sound designers, or do you usually do it all yourself (libraries)?

I have around 2 years of experience working for a Sound Studio, mainly on short films, and I'm thinking about jumping into game audio. Mainly because the film industry in my 3rd world country sucks. I have done a lot of DX, backgrounds, etc., for short films, and I barely earn any money lol. For a DX edition and Backgrounds of a short film that went to Cannes in 2024, I worked for 2 weeks; I barely got $100 bucks lol

Audio work is just not respected in Mexico, and really bad paid. Most of us just do it for the love of the game. I'm thinking of jumping more into audio for games, learning middleware, but I'm not sure if there is really a market among indie devs that outsource/hire freelancers, or if most of you just do it all by yourselves. I love video games, and I'm a big gamer; it's just that in my country, it is a non-existent industry, but I just realized that there might be a chance to work with an indie team?? But not sure what you think. I'd appreciate any insights or help. Thanks in advance, guys!

My mech roguelite SCRAPWAVE is out on Steam. You break parts off enemy robots and bolt them onto your own mech mid-fight

• Upvotes

SCRAPWAVE launched on Steam last week (Windows and macOS), and I wanted to share it with fellow devs.

**The core loop:** you hold out against 10 minutes of robot waves. Elite enemies and bosses have breakable arms, shoulders, cores, and so on. When you destroy a part it drops, and you can equip it on your own mech right away. Your parts can be destroyed too, so your build keeps changing during the run.

A few things I learned shipping it:

- **Physical parts were the hook, and also the hardest thing to balance.** Since you can lose a weapon at any moment, every system has to stay fun while your build is half broken.
- **It ships in 4 languages (EN/KO/JA/ZH-Hans).** Making text and HUD layouts fit every language took more time than I expected.
- **The first update just went out.** Every boss now drops a boss-only part: 13 of them, each in 3 rarities, kept in a permanent collection you can bring into later runs. Rare and Epic parts also got a shine, so in a crowded fight you can tell at a glance which drop is worth grabbing.

Content: 60 parts across 8 slots plus the new boss parts, 5 planets with different rules, 2 endings, and 3 difficulty cycles. It's $3.99.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5319290/

Happy to answer questions about the design or the pipeline.

*AI disclosure: some title screen and store art was AI-generated, then edited by me. I used AI as an assistant for coding and for drafting this post. The gameplay footage and music in the video are not AI-generated.*

Discussion Working on an abandoned shipwreck location for my survival game

Post image
• Upvotes

I've been working on this abandoned shipwreck location for my indie survival game

I wanted the ship to feel like it had been stranded here for years, slowly being reclaimed by the forest. I've been working on the overgrown vegetation, weathered wood, torn sails, and lighting to make the scene feel like a believable part of the island.

The game is about surviving and exploring a mysterious island, with a loyal dog companion by your side.

What do you think of the environment and lighting? I'd love to hear your feedback!

And just out of curiosity: how do you think a ship like this ended up in the middle of a forest?

Discussion Anyone else being approached to hand over their game’s code for AI training?

Post image
142 Upvotes

I received this email offering a potential $10k–$20k for access to my game’s codebase to train AI models.

I’m not interested in accepting, and I don’t support this use of my work. It’s uncomfortable seeing years of development reduced to uses for training , with assurances about allowing me to keep the IP as though that addresses the concern.

Has anyone else received similar approaches? I’m curious how widespread this is becoming and how other indie developers are responding.

Feedback? Producer with 100s of beats - free

I have been making music for 10+ years, but I am a medical student and releasing most of these tracks are not worth it since I don't have the time or desire to push them to people. Instead, I'd like to just give them free to you guys without you needing to worry about licensing or browsing tons of forms/sites or anything like that. I just want these tracks to go somewhere, I don't even need credit.

Only thing id ask is if you use it, share it so I can get a chance to see your game and hear the song in a place you'd envision it!

I make everything from like soft study music to hip hop/rap and afrohouse stuff and sometimes just weird/interesting/soft textures. Would anyone here be interested in this?

Upcoming! Our little train incremental just passed 7000 wishlists on Steam!!

My brother and I have been developing I Like Trains, an idle incremental game about just building up and expanding a train network. It has been a LOT of work and time just planning, talking, and then of course attempting to execute on those ideas. The whole process has just been a dream come true as both of us have been wannabe game devs since we were little 😂

The response we’ve seen so far has been surreal! We have had 7000 wishlists as a mental goal for a while and we are so excited to pass that number! We never imagined to have such an amazing response, especially on just our first commercial game!

For anyone curious, here’s the Steam page
