Dating Question Is This What It's Like In Small Cities?
28M. I live in an area with about 200k people, about an hour away from a major city.
I downloaded the app in March and had light success. A match or like once a week; I wasn't expecting much because I've heard dating apps were difficult for men, and considering my area's population, there's not a ton of active users.
After using the app for a while and seeing a discrepancy over the profiles who like me compared to Tinder and Bumble, I've assumed that most women just open their likes you page and never check the discover queue. I guess that makes sense. But around July my ability to get likes or matches completely dried up and it seemed like only one woman was making a new profile every day and at that point I'm sure they get flooded with likes so the odds of them seeing me are extra unlikely.
Last month, on a whim I changed my location to Los Angeles, and it's like a slap in the face how different the experience is. I've received more likes in one day than I had in the previous six combined and like 10% of the profiles I've liked so far converted into matches. I've left my profile there for a month now and it's really bizarre how different the dating app culture seems.
Are smaller areas like mine as difficult for everyone else or does my town just have a really cagey population?
