(English isn't my first language, so I used Google Translator)
I’ve been questioning my gender for three months now, and honestly, I feel like I haven’t made any progress at all—it’s incredibly frustrating.
I’m 25 years old and was assigned female at birth. I’m a lesbian, and I’ve generally always leaned toward a more masculine presentation. Once, back in middle school, I even toyed with the idea of being a man—going so far as to consider bottom surgery—but that was the most intense instance of such a thought I’ve ever had.
Three months ago, I began to seriously question my gender. It wasn’t triggered by anything specific I’d seen or encountered; the thought just appeared and refused to leave—even when I try to let it go, it keeps coming back.
The issue is that, over these last three months, it’s started to take a real toll on me. I’m overweight, and while I’m already unhappy with that, it’s gone further: I can’t even look at my body from the shoulders down. I dislike my chest, my curves, and my hips—not because of my weight, but because I feel like my body should be more masculine. (Even considering going on T by December of this year)
When I encounter sexual content—whether it’s stories, comics, or pornography—I feel uncomfortable at the thought of someone being intimate with me while I have my current anatomy. However, if I imagine myself with male genitalia—and I apologize for being so candid—I actually feel aroused. Furthermore, when I watch porn, I don’t identify with the woman; I identify with the man (regardless of whether he’s in a dominant or submissive role).
I’ve also been picturing my life in the coming years as the opposite gender. The thought brings me happiness—or, at the very least, it doesn’t bother me—but it also brings up a lot of concerns.
I’m short; I know short men exist, but I fear the bullying wouldn’t stop—especially since I’m studying diesel mechanics. I also worry that finding a partner would be even more difficult as a trans man. I didn’t grow up as a boy, and even if I were to start medical transition, will there ever come a point where I truly feel like a "real" man? It also worries me—or makes me sad—that I won’t be able to be a biological parent.
I feel very lost; honestly, I don’t know if I’m just confused and happen to be a masculine-presenting girl, or if I’m actually a trans man.
If you could share your own experiences, I would really appreciate it. 🫂
