This isn't a quad. It's my 3D-printed V-tail FPV wing!
Someone commented on one of my recent videos that everyone they show the footage to thinks it's a quad. So I thought I'd share a little more of what this thing can do!
This is VENOM, my fully 3D-printed V-tail FPV wing. After weeks of designing, printing and flight testing, I've finally got it flying exactly how I imagined.
I designed it specifically for this kind of low-level flying. It's epic for a relaxed, flowy cruise or for throwing it around doing acro. It's a really capable little airframe, and I feel like I'm only starting to scratch the surface of what it can do as I improve my own piloting skills!
One of the things I love about FPV wings compared to quads is just how chilled out the flying can be. You can sit back, enjoy the cruise and let the aircraft carry its energy through the turns. These planes really suit a smooth, flowing style of flying, but when you want to push them, they're surprisingly agile too.
VENOM Specs:
- Wingspan: 600mm
- Flying weight: 249g
- Airframe: 3D-printed LW-PLA
- Motors: Twin 1103
- Battery: 2S 1000mAh LiHV
- FPV: DJI O4 Wide
- Flight controller: INAV
- Controls: Elevons + V-tail ruddervators
- Flight time: 6–9 minutes of sporty flying
It's been a really rewarding project, especially seeing all the aerodynamic design work and experimentation with the control surfaces translate into something that's so much fun to fly.
Any quad pilots here tempted to give fixed-wing FPV a try?
