Check out my 1975 Chevrolet C10! My grandfather bought this truck new in 75. It spent most of its life in the barn at the family ranch and was mostly used to drive into town for supplies.

When he died a few years ago, his brother (my great uncle, a classic car guy) took it and redid just about everything mechanical except the engine and transmission. I recently got it back from him. This truck has tremendous sentimental value to me and I want to make/keep it mechanically sound while preserving the stock look.

The paint and interior are original (has been garage/barn kept for all 51 years).

I have moved it back to the family ranch where I intend to fix it up and drive it around town when I'm there. It won't be a daily driver, so I'm free to spread out the pieces in the garage and take my time.

I could use some help getting started with this truck. I'm about as handy as a human can be, but don't have any specific knowledge about these models. I have every tool known to man at the ranch, including an auto lift. My questions for you experts:

  • It's about 70 miles from where I picked it up to the ranch. I burned half a tank of gas on that drive. Is that normal or do I have an issue? It drove great with no issues beyond me being spoiled by my modern SUV!
  • The AC system was completely replaced within the past couple years, but I couldn't get it to work. I suspect there is a refrigerant leak. Any tips on tracking that down?
  • I don't believe the engine or transmission have ever been worked on. Should I get the transmission serviced/flushed? My great uncle says leave it alone if its working.
  • My great uncle thinks there's an issue with the piston rings. Would I be crazy to make that my first engine project? The closest I have come is rebuilding a carburetor when I was in high school (30 years ago).
  • I'd like to add some speakers and a Bluetooth stereo. Is there any way to do that without ruining the classic look? I am good with electronics, but if there's a drop-in solution I'd prefer that. I'd be fine with a bluetooth head in the glove compartment, but I'd like to use the original volume knob if possible.
  • Is there a common way to add a shoulder seat belt? It currently only has lap belts.

I appreciate any input y'all have!

Finally got around to switching from my iffy chrysler ignition module to an hei runs a lot smoother and starts quicker. I also got around to wiring my lights onto a relay instead of just the switch and installed a VSR to connect my 2 charging systems when needed. I got the rest of my parts for my big block swap but im recovering from a hernia and gettin my gallbladder taken out but progress is progress. 😁

This is my 1953 3100 Ice Cream Truck. It has been selling Ice Cream since being purchased new in 1953 by my Grandfather. It is still a work truck and stills has kids chasing it.

Taking Guesses on what the appraisal comes back at (Insurance reasons) due to the historical significance / prominence. It's an original Amerio built truck (have the receipt) and has local area prominence as there's a monument with my Grandfather and the truck when he hit the 50 year mark at the state perk selling Ice Cream.

Discussion Help estimating a sale price for my father's GMC C2500

My father is looking to sell his GMC C2500, I don't really know anything about classic trucks so I'm helping him do some research so he give an accurate sale price to potential buyers. We're not selling yet, I'm just helping lay the groundwork.

I start it once a week just to make sure it's still running. I have more pictures of it from different angles and inside the cab and engine, and I can provide those if needed. I tried to attach two more photos of the cab and engine but Reddit wouldn't let me for some reason.

Here is a feature list:

  • Power steering
  • Power brakes
  • Edelbrock manifold and carburetor
  • Dual exhaust
  • 207 C.I. (cubic inch) V8 200 horsepower engine
  • New heads and valves (2024)
  • Electronic ignition
  • Anti sway bars, front and rear
  • 8 bolt wheels

Based on the description, images, and features, can anyone help me estimate what it might be worth?

EDIT: I forgot to include the mileage, and my father clarified something for me. Apparently he changed the transmission about 3 years ago, and in the process caused some kind of electrical short so both the speedometer and the odometer to not work, and the mileage is not accurate. The number on the dashboard is 30,640, but my father said that he's driven the truck sparingly since it stopped working, so that should be about 2,000 miles higher. But I can't say for sure what the exact mileage is.

Here's an image of the speedometer with the mileage: https://imgur.com/a/G1hpryr

Mechanical Question Question about Ford F-100

My cousin bought a 1972 Ford F-100 and noticed fluid coming out of the rear driver side axle. We both have limited knowledge working on vehicles but this is a project for him and he wants to learn some things for himself. We pulled out the axle shaft and removed the axle seal. To my untrained eye it looks like that wheel bearing is shot and needs to be replaced. My question is, what is the best way to find the correct part number, and what is the best way to replace that bearing. He mentioned cutting the old one off and buying a press to put the new one on. The rear axle is the ford 9 inch if we are not mistaken. Thanks for the help in advance, I know I might sound stupid asking this
