Problem/Goal: I think I'm destroying the first woman I've genuinely loved, and I don't know how to stop myself.
Context:
I'm a guy who's been through a lot, and honestly, I don't even know where to start.
Back in 2024, I caught my wife cheating on me after ten years together. I was loyal and committed to her. I gave that relationship everything I had, to the point where I forgot who I was as an individual.
We came from nothing. I worked my way up, built myself from the ground up, and tried to give our family a better life. We have a daughter who's now nine years old. And just when I thought we were finally getting somewhere, my wife cheated on me.
It devastated me. I couldn't understand how someone who knew where we started, someone who had been with me through all those struggles, could do that to me.
But here's where I have to admit something about myself.
After two months of dealing with the pain, I started getting involved with other women. I didn't love them. I wasn't looking for anything meaningful. I think I was just trying to fill a void, distract myself, or prove something to myself. It became a cycle. Almost every month, there was someone new. Eventually, people at my office knew about it, and I even got involved with women I worked with.
Some of those experiences ended badly, too. I was cheated on myself.
Looking back, I realize I became the kind of person I probably wouldn't have respected before. I played with people's feelings because I was hurting, and now I feel like all the pain I caused others is coming back to me.
Fast-forward to July 2026. I met someone.
For the first time since everything happened, I genuinely fell in love with someone again. I even told my family about her, something I had never done with anyone else after my marriage fell apart.
For context, people have always called me a genius. I'm good at solving problems, analyzing things, and thinking several steps ahead. But when it comes to this woman, I feel like an idiot who keeps making mistakes. I feel like I'm becoming an unforgivable sin in the eyes of someone I desperately don't want to hurt.
At first, things were good between us. We were happy, comfortable, and getting closer.
Then my demons came back.
And by demons, I mean my own mind.
Every single night, my brain simulates negative scenarios. Not just one or two, but multiple possibilities, each one more painful than the last. I imagine things that haven't happened, look for hidden meanings in small details, and try to prepare myself for situations that might not even be real.
One time, she mentioned having a male friend from high school. I got jealous, and my mind started creating scenarios about their relationship. Instead of dealing with my insecurity like a normal person, I decided to investigate.
I used social engineering and deliberately planned a flirtatious conversation with her friend to figure out his sexuality. I eventually concluded that he was gay.
When I told her what I had done, she was devastated.
And honestly, I understand why. Regardless of what I was trying to prove to myself, I crossed a boundary. I let my jealousy justify something I shouldn't have done.
I keep telling myself that I won't make the same mistakes again, but somehow, I end up doing something that hurts her.
The scary part is how attached I've become to her.
Within three months, my mind had already imagined an entire future with her. A family. A home. A peaceful life. Growing old together. All the things I once thought I had lost forever.
It feels like I've been attached to her for five years when, in reality, it's only been three months.
I know that sounds unhealthy. I know I'm probably getting ahead of myself. But I can't seem to stop my brain from building this future and then making me terrified of losing it.
Last month, I lost my job. She was there for me, both physically and emotionally, when I needed someone. I genuinely appreciated that.
I eventually landed a new job that pays twice as much as my previous one. I was happy for a few days, but that happiness faded quickly. Now I'm back to feeling depressed, anxious, and mentally exhausted.
Every night, my thoughts eat me alive. I've cried over things that haven't even happened. I lose sleep imagining scenarios that I have no evidence for. Sometimes, I feel like I can't take it anymore.
Lately, I feel like I'm constantly begging for her attention.
She's online, but somehow, I still feel alone. When we call, we sometimes have nothing to talk about. I try to start conversations, but I don't always feel that same interest coming from her.
I don't know if she's losing interest, if we're simply going through a normal phase, or if my own anxiety is making everything feel worse than it actually is.
And that's the problem. I don't know when to trust my instincts and when to recognize that it's just my mind trying to protect me from getting hurt again.
I don't want to become controlling. I don't want to keep investigating things, questioning everything, or making her feel like she has to prove herself to me.
I love her, and I want to treat her right. But sometimes, it feels like the more I love her, the more afraid I become. And the more afraid I become, the more likely I am to do something that pushes her away.
I used to think being intelligent meant being able to solve almost any problem. But I can't seem to solve this one. I can build systems, analyze complex problems, and think through countless possibilities, yet I can't get my own mind to give me a peaceful night.
I don't want to keep repeating the same mistakes. I don't want my past to destroy something that could have been good.
I want to understand what's happening to me, because right now, I feel like I'm losing a battle against my own mind.
Previous attempts: Sitting down to have that conversation felt like one of the most daunting tasks I had ever faced, as I began explaining to her my suffering and making her understand how my mind works. I wanted her to truly grasp the weight of my struggles, detailing the exact moments when the darkness felt suffocating, while also walking her through the intricate logic and emotional triggers behind my reactions.
THIS IS NOT A MADE UP STORY, THIS IS CURRENTLY WHAT I'M SUFFERING WITH.
